Fantasy Impact: The Ducks have signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year deal.

The Ducks get: A veteran goaltender who has been with the team before. Many of the faces have changed since he was last with the team but the leadership group of Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Francois Beauchemin can vouch for him (or not.)

This is hardly relevant but if you are keeping score at home, Bryzgalov will make more than the rest of the Ducks' other three goaltenders combined. Sometimes the world just doesn't make sense.

There is hope for Gibson owners however. Remember that last season Gibson had three goaltenders more talented than this trio ahead of him and he still found his way onto the roster at season's end, even earning some playoff action. He is the future for Anaheim and could easily be the present if Andersen is injured. He was always going to need an Andersen slump or injury to win the job.

Bryzgalov's presence removes the chances of stealing the job on a slump and takes away his ability to have spot-start value but there is still room for Gibson to be relevant this season. If not, well neither LaBarbara nor Bryzgalov has a contract for next year when Gibson will have another shot.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk. They also cover Jarry’s AHL demotion, Cooley’s ascension to the top-line and powerplay, and injuries to Tavares and Hintz. The duo wrap up with some hot and cold streak deep dives, including discussion of the Red Wings crazy powerplay success in the last ten games, whether Erik Gustafsson is rosterable or an overperforming illusion, Fantilli’s continued success, Merilainen as Hamburglar 2.0, and whether Schenn’s success and Neighbours’ lack thereof are likely to continue.
