We are at the halfway point of the season and injuries are taking their toll on NHL teams and fantasy teams. Here is the first injury update of 2015.
ANAHEIM – Eric Brewer (foot) is no longer using crutches and based on original timeline of four to six weeks could be back in the next two weeks.
ARIZONA – Martin Hanzal (upper body) saw some doctors on Wednesday and status is currently unknown, for now he is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
BOSTON – Loui Eriksson (undisclosed) status for Thursday game is unknown after being slashed in Wednesday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
BUFFALO – Marcus Foligno (hand) had surgery to repair his hand and will be out five more weeks.
BUFFALO – Brian Gionta (upper body) is on a week-to-week schedule.
CALGARY – Karri Ramo (upper body) collided with teammate Raphael Diaz Wednesday night when he went out to play a puck near the blue line. He was helped off the ice and didn't return. No timeline yet on him.
CALGARY – Sam Bennett (shoulder) is skating on his own but according to Calgary Flames head coach Bob Hartley, he's not close to playing.
CALGARY – Josh Jooris (undisclosed) was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday but no word on why.
CAROLINA – Alexander Semin (upper body) will be back in the line-up for game against the Buffalo Sabres Thursday night.
CHICAGO – Kris Versteeg (hand) will miss about a month with a left hand injury.
COLUMBUS – Boone Jenner (back) is out for the second time this season and is expected to miss two months due to a stress fracture in his lower back.
COLUMBUS – Nathan Horton (back) has a degenerative back injury where the only remedy is surgery that would fuse two or more vertebrae but that would likely end his NHL career.
COLUMBUS – Ryan Murray (knee) still no timetable for his return and he hopes this injury will not plague him for his entire career.
MINNESOTA – Mikael Granlund (wrist) underwent successful surgery on a fractured wrist and is expected to miss approximately four weeks.
MINNESOTA – Darcy Kuemper (undisclosed) left practice on Wednesday and is out "a little bit" after visiting a doctor earlier this week and was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday morning.
MONTREAL – P.A. Parenteau (upper body) skated on Wednesday for the first time since being hit Friday in New Jersey and is inching close to a return.
NASHVILLE – James Neal (lower body) was placed on Injured Reserve Thursday morning. He has missed three straight games and there is no update on his injury or how long he will actually be out.
NEW YORK – Josh Bailey (upper body) is day-to-day with an upper body injury.
NEW YORK – Lubomir Visnovsky (upper body) was placed on Injured Reserve retro to January 4, 2015.
PHILADELPHIA – Steve Mason (undisclosed) injury "may be nothing" but underwent a MRI as a precautionary measure, according to Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall. He took part in the morning skate on Thursday; so don't expect him to miss too much time.
PITTSBURGH – Patric Hornqvist (foot) is expected to be out a few weeks with a lower body injury.
PITTSBURGH – Olli Maatta (shoulder) won't require surgery but will need another month of rehabilitation before he can return to game action.
SAN JOSE – Joe Thornton (upper body) was placed on Injured Reserve on Sunday. He is eligible to return Thursday night and is questionable to play against the St. Louis Blues.
TAMPA BAY – Radko Gudas (knee) underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday and will miss approximately four months with a right knee injury.
TORONTO – Joffrey Lupul (lower body) is out four weeks with a lower body injury.
VANCOUVER – Dan Hamhuis (leg) is out until the second half of January.
WINNIPEG – Evander Kane (lower body) is travelling with the team on their current road trip and hopes to play soon. Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice says he knows Kane can play thru pain. He skated on Wednesday in a no-contact jersey.
WINNIPEG – Jacob Trouba (upper body) is skating but is still out until February.
WINNIPEG – Zach Bogosian (lower body) has been out of the line-up since December 14 and with the Jets placing a defenseman on waivers it almost a certainty that Bogosian will play Thursday.
WINNIPEG – Tobias Enstrom (lower body) skated with a no-contact jersey for 45 minutes earlier this week and the best-case scenario he could return the end of January at the earliest.
