Picking the NHL winner’s for Saturday, February 14, 2015.

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

I'm smashing the bookies,

And so can you.

Happy Valentine's Day! Last weekend I went 5 for 6 pushing my record to 16-2 since beginning on Dobbers a few weeks back. Post all-star has always been my favorite time to wager on the NHL. The Minnesota Wild deserve much credit for my recent hot run. I've been riding the Wild since the all-star break and have never looked back. They say all good things come to an end… I disagree… now let's #GETTHATMONEY.

Record: 16 – 2

Toronto @ Montreal (7pm ET)

With one win in their last 14 games… how much worse can it get? I say the sky's the limit. The Maple Laughs head into Montreal tonight against a Habs team that currently sits atop of the Eastern Conference. The price has been right for Carey and the Habs this season. The Leafs love to get amped up for these games but there is no reason to believe they get the W here. If there is any team that would love to kick the Leafs while they're down…it would be the Habs.

Game Notes:

Key Stat: Maple Leafs are 1-4 in the last five meetings.

Pick: Montreal – Home Team Win– H

Winnipeg @ Detroit (7pm ET)

Cue the collapse? The Jets have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games. The good news is that they still hold a playoff spot… but for how long? Needless to say tonight's matchup with the Red Wings is a big one for Winnipeg. The Red Wings have been on a tear over their last 10 going 8-2. Life without Jimmy Howard has been not too shabby. This is mainly because of the outstanding play by Petr Mrazek who stepped in for Howard and turned a lot of heads doing so. Normally, I wouldn't bet on a situation like this… Howard hasn't played in quite some time and should be rusty. But something tells me Jimmy will have a strong night and silence all the doubters who question his #1 role. Also, the Jets have lost 5 straight on the road and the Joe Louis Arena has been really good to the Red Wings as they are 17-4-6 at home. Give me the Red Wings.

Game Notes: Jimmy Howard will make his return tonight from injury.

Key Stat: Jets are 0-5 in their last 5 road games.

Pick: Detroit – Home Team Win – H

Carolina @ Minnesota (8pm ET)

Key Stat: Hurricanes are 2-5-1 in the last 8 meetings in Minnesota.

Pick: Minnesota – Home Team Win – H

New Jersey @ Nashville (8pm ET)

Keep calm we have Pekka Rinne. I can't disagree. How can you not be calm when you know you have Pekka in your net? Pekka has allowed only five goals in his last three games picking up where he had left off before getting injured in mid-January. The Predators are currently the best team in the NHL with a 37-12-6 record. Who could have predicted this? One of the main reasons for their superior form this season is Bridgestone Arena, where they are a league best 23-3-1. The Devils are playing the 2nd game of a B2B as they were in Chicago last night. Consequently, Keith Kinkaid should get the start in this matchup. Pekka > Keith… take the Preds.

Game Notes: Preds PP heating up with 20 goals in their last 22 games.

Key Stat: Predators are 27-4 in their last 31 home games.

Pick: Nashville – Home Team Win – H

Vancouver @ Calgary (10pm ET)

This one should be a doozy as both teams renew their rivalry tonight. The Canucks and Flames currently hold a playoff spot… although by a thread. These two teams generally have tight matchups and that should be the case tonight as points have never been so important. The Canucks will be playing the 2nd game of a B2B as they beat the Bruins last night in a tightly fought contest. Fatigue maybe a factor. There is also a possibility that Eddie Lack will get the start here as it is a B2B situation. Regardless, I expect this game go into OT. The last two matchups were decided by one goal and the same should be expected for tonight.

Game Notes:

Key Stat: Home team is 11-5 in the last 16 meetings.

Pick: TIE – T

Washington @ Los Angeles (10pm ET)

Is it time to panic? Was it time to panic when they were down 3 – 0 in the opening round of the 2014 postseason… sorry Sharks. The Kings are currently three points out of a playoff spot just after winning Lord Stanley less than a year ago. The Capitals on the other hand currently occupy a wild card spot and look to widen the gap with the pesky Panthers who trail by nine points. I feel the Kings will go on a run… not sure when but soon. Life outside of the Staples Center has been really rough for the Kings as they are a pitiful 7-12-6 on the road. Luckily for the Kings they take on the Caps at home in this late night affair. I like the Kings to keep things rolling as they're currently on a three-game winning streak… by the end of the night it will be four.

Game Notes: The Kings have scored 13 goals over their current three-game winning streak.

Key Stat: Capitals are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings.

Pick: Los Angeles – Home Team Win – H
