We’ve entered an absolute snooze fest for offseason activity.
The highlights include Jimmy Hayes, Brett Connolly and Evgeny Kuznetsov signing deals. All stick with the same team, all have been covered plenty.
Here is the short take …
Kuznetsov will be over drafted. Yes, he has fabulous offensive gifts, and he will be a solid 45-60 point guy. However, he will not receive the most important offensive minutes, and he is still extremely inconsistent from game to game.
Remember, even during his breakout playoff showing this spring, he went pointless in 10 of 14 games. Let someone else take the gamble in the early middle rounds, I’ll pass. Kuznetsov will be reached for in that area this fall.
Connolly’s foot speed is an issue, and while he has been a possession beast and boasts a huge shot, he’ll need top-six minutes and power-play time. If those are available and Connolly secures them, he is still nothing more than a late-round flier in deep leagues. Similarly, the same can be said for Hayes, as in he is an endgame option.
