Why the Leafs will win, and other NHL picks for the action on Saturday, November 14.
Last Saturday I went 4-2 pushing my record to 20-10 which equates to 67% capping. I traditionally cap at a 70% clip or higher so I expect a few solid weekends before the end of the year. Let’s dive right into it and #GETTHATMONEY.
Record: 20 – 10
The Rangers are grooving right now as they have won seven straight. In their last 10 games the Rangers are 9-0-1 and have only allowed 10 goals. Take that in for a second. To make matters even worse for the Senators, Rick Nash seems to be getting hot as he has seven points over his last four games. On the other end the Senators have been rather inconsistent as of late as they are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. I have to go with the Rangers here as they just look to good. They made Jake Allen look like a pylon in their 6-3 win over the Blues two nights ago. Give me the Rangers.
Key Stat: Rangers are 11-4 in the last 15 meetings in Ottawa.
Pick: New York – Visitor Team Win – V
Both of these teams have been in a funk. The Panthers have only won one game in their last seven games and that was against the free falling Flames. The Bolts have looked completely anemic offensively averaging 1.5 goals per game in their past 10. This game could be a low scoring affair but I like the Bolts here as they are at home and their goaltending has been pretty solid. Regardless of the stats, Tampa Bay is simply the better team in arguably every department. Take the Bolts.
Key Stat: Panthers are 3-14 in the last 17 meetings.
Pick: Tampa Bay – Home Team Win – H
It seems like I take the Canadiens just about every weekend and every weekend I #GETTHATMONEY. Mike Condon took a loss in his last game against the pesky Pens in a 4-3 defeat. He had his worst game in that one allowing three goals on 34 shots. Are we starting to see some chinks in his armor? I doubt it. Condon still hasn’t lost a game in regulation and tonight will be no different. The Canadiens should get back on track here against an Avalanche squad that will be without Gabriel Landeskog due to a two-game suspension. The Avalanche are truly like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. But I know what to expect from the Canadiens at the Bell Centre on a Saturday night, a win… as they have yet to lose in regulation there.
Key Stat: Canadiens are 7-0 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Pick: Montreal – Home Team Win – H
I never thought I would bet on the Leafs this year but I’ve watched them over their last few games and they look solid. Suffocating is the best word I can use to describe it. In their last game versus the Predators they gave next to no time for the Predators to develop anything. They fore-checked like demons and played possessed for much of the game. On top of all this James Reimer has channeled his inner Carey Price and has played outstanding with Jonathan Bernier out. The Leafs have been terrible at home thus far this season as they are 1-4-1-1 but with the way they’ve played as of late they should get the W here.
Key Stat: Home team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.
Pick: Toronto – Home Team Win – H
This is going to be a thriller. I will definitely tune into this matchup as both teams have looked like Stanley Cup contenders. I’m going to make this one short. Dallas will win. Why? First, they are playing in the Big D and the Wild are a different team on the road. Second, the Wild will be missing their stud Zach Parise who I think will be dearly missed in this one. Third, I can’t bet against Jamie Benn right now… he’s to clutch. Take the Stars.
Key Stat: Wild are 5-22-1 in the last 28 meetings in Dallas.
Pick: Dallas – Home Team Win – H
Edmonton @ Los Angeles (10pm ET)
Life without Connor McDavid sucks, just ask the Oilers. Edmonton is 3-7 in their past 10 games as they currently sit in a familiar spot, near the bottom of the Western Conference. The Kings on the other hand have rebounded from their early season woes as they are 7-3 in their past 10 games. The Oilers truly have only one guy going right now and that’s Taylor Hall as he has produced 14 points in his last 10 games. The problem is the Kings should be able to shut him down by playing the matchups game as they are at home. After the Hall line, there really isn’t any other goal scoring threat. Without McDavid the Oilers are simply just not good enough. Give me the Kings.
Key Stat: Oilers are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles.
Pick: Los Angeles – Home Team Win – H
