Now how about some suggestions on who to plug into your roster?
Top Budget Plays
Centers
Melker Karlsson $3,800 – There seems to be Karlssons all over the place. This Karlsson has had nice success in just a handful of games so far this year. He got off to a very hot start last year before leveling off. Therefore, you will want to ride the wave while you can here. He is priced pretty low in most formats and down enough on DraftKings to give a little extra towards those higher priced blue chip plays. After all, the Sharks are in Pittsburgh and that may mean some goals scored.
Wingers
Rickard Rakell $3,300 – Yes the RPG line has been reunited and so far it has been a modest success. Rakell is a very effect possession player who has enough speed to drive Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf. It just seems teams were easily timing the duo and Rakell changes that equation at least a little bit. At the very least the winger will give you a little relief on a high slate Saturday night.
Defensemen
Rob Scuderi $2,500 – Please note that this is more out of necessity than anything else. Values are getting tougher and tougher to find and Scuderi will get more times to block shots and maybe chip in every so often. He will be minimally priced unlike some other defensemen that have been moved upward on the price chain by DraftKings. If you are desperate enough and need a placeholder, then Scuderi will be that guy that helps you in other places on a busy Saturday night.
Goalie
James Reimer $6,500 – So Reimer is going to be a high risk GPP play on Saturday because of his history against Boston. Then again, it seems most Toronto goalies do not fare all that well against the Bruins. However, Boston has considerable issues of their own and Reimer has been on fire. He was named a star of the week even. At the least, he will be lower priced than most until confirmations roll in.
Since we saved some money on the budget plays let’s look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.
Centers
Evgeni Malkin $7,400 – With Sidney Crosby not scoring (46 games out of his last 100 without a point), Malkin has been holding up his end of the bargain and then some. He had a lights out, four point performance against Minnesota and looked great against Colorado. Malkin just plays better angry and he is clearly fired up about players not carrying their weight. Whatever is working for the center is something that just keeps having to be repeated over and over. Keep playing him until he cools off a little.
Wingers
Patrick Kane $8,600 – Kane has points in 14 straight games going into Saturday night’s tilt against Vancouver and these teams do have a bit of a history against each other. One really cannot afford to fade Kane right now because he just seems to find a way to get on the score sheet every time. He is a threat every time he touches the puck and no matter his price point, the winger has hit value in all 14 of those games during the streak. He is our safest pick.
Defenseman
John Klingberg $5,800 – Klingberg’s price keeps on inching upward as he climbs slowly into that upper price echelon. He is still at over a point a game on the season. Even against Washington, he found a way to get his DraftKings points. It is difficult not to have him in your lineup because just when you think he will level off, here he comes back again with a performance. The more he shoots, the more dangerous of a player he becomes. His defensive abilities are improving which leads to more offense.
Goalie
Jake Allen $7,500 – This is by no means a give me type of scenario but St. Louis does not score a lot at home and they do not give up a lot either. They let up less than two goals a game at home in Allen’s starts and Detroit has not been lighting the lamp much lately. The new “1A” in St. Louis has taken to the role pretty well, had a long shutout streak, and now looks like the goals many in the Blues organization thought he might be. The best part is he still has room to improve. That’s bad for everyone else.
