Great Value Picks for DFS Hockey, Saturday – Doan, Marchessault and other interesting plays for Draft Kings

Top Budget Plays

Centers

Jonathan Marchessault $2800 – We have joked a bit too much when it comes trying to say his name five times fast. However, the Tampa center can play and has inched himself into a nice quasi top six slotted role. His five game point streak has us more intrigued than anything else. Some may be underestimating him a bit still and his value price makes him a must play against Columbus.

Wingers

Shane Doan $3400 – Maybe the injury jolted Doan but whatever it did to the captain was a good thing. He has seven points in his last nine games and plays his favorite nemesis (the Los Angeles Kings) on Saturday. Arizona, even with awful team defense, has managed to keep it together and Doan’s recent hot stretch is a big reason for that. He has the power and size with just enough speed to keep the Kings’ forwards at arm’s length.

Defensemen

Olli Maatta $3400 – Though hesitation and apprehension can eat you alive in daily fantasy, Maatta has been just good enough lately to end up here. In his last six games, he has been a bit up and down but his floor is moving up to close to two DraftKings points a game. That means if he even gets an assist, he far exceeds value. Minnesota might give up a few goals on Saturday night and that makes the young defenseman a reasonably good idea.

Goalie

Louis Domingue $6100 – This is fun because nobody knows really what to expect out of Domingue against the Kings. The goalie has stopped 70 out of 74 shots since being called up to basically replace Anders Lindback as the starter for now. When someone says take advantage of a hot hand while you can, here is more of a case of pounce on the low price while you can. The highest priced goalie on the slate is Braden Holtby at $2100 more. That is a lot of money to save in order to spend it somewhere else.

Since we saved some money on the budget plays let’s look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Patrice Bergeron $7100 – The Boston Bruins love to play the Buffalo Sabres and Bergeron could be a very likely beneficiary here. He has pretty much maintained a point a game pace all season and averages almost four shots a game in the last month. His shooting percentage has been a bit off compared to his season average going into December though which means he could be in for a good night against a Buffalo team that still has penalty killing woes.

Wingers

Taylor Hall $7400 – He is the Christmas gift that keeps on giving and is still about a $1000 less than Jamie Benn. Over his last dozen games, no winger has been hotter than Hall on DraftKings. His chemistry with Leon Draisaitl and Teddy Purcell has been unmatched. Though they play on the road in Vancouver, Vancouver is a very shaky and streaky team. Their biggest weakness is arguably depth especially on the defensive end. Edmonton has this problem sometimes as well which could set up for a high end back and forth match which benefits Hall and company.

Defenseman

Shea Weber $6200 – Weber has had a lot of uneven moments in this season but the last ten games have been much more like the defenseman we remember with the booming shot and the extremely high floor when it comes to accumulating fantasy points. He has pretty much matched Roman Josi as far as fantasy production and comes in at $800 cheaper. Weber has 12 points in his last ten contests and overall has a whopping 15 power play points (8 of those goals) on a Nashville team that has been a little light on scoring.

Goalie

Braden Holtby $8200 – This is taking a shot with house money simply because at some point Montreal cannot put up a shot level in the top five in the league without scoring a bunch eventually. However, if any one goalie can stop a high volume, it is Holtby right now who is simply an insane 13-0-1 in his last 15 starts. He has a .940 save percentage in his last ten starts and dug deep after the New York Rangers struck three times in the first period on Sunday. The goalie has a resolve right now that he will win any game in any way he can.
