Who might benefit from Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin being separated?

Top Budget Plays

Centers

Mattias Janmark $3,100 – We are going to attempt to see how long this Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin being apart scenario works out. It is worth it to insert Janmark in as he is playing with Seguin currently. As far as cheap fliers go, this would be a reasonable one to choose. Minnesota is not the same team on the road as they are at home but furthermore, Dallas has shown in two meetings that their forwards can strike at any time. Janmark can benefit from playing with a true sniper.

Wingers

Milan Michalek $3,400 – After missing over a month with injury, Michalek got a game of rust out of the way on Thursday against Florida. He is currently playing on the second line with Mike Hoffman and Mika Zibanejad. This match-up is good for both Boston but particularly for Ottawa as they should have a high projected goals for even if they were to lose. Michalek is playing with a sniper and on the second power play unit. The production has to come sooner rather than later.

Defensemen

Noah Hanifin $3,300 – Though it is a road game in Columbus, the Jackets keep giving up goals, and Hanifin is still paired with Justin Faulk on the power play. The defenseman is still learning on the fly, but if Carolina is going to turn these games with higher shot outputs into goals, it may just be this game. Hanifin has good possession numbers but has only eight points on the year. On the bright side, the defenseman has been showing better shots and blocks numbers. It will be the rise of his point floor that intrigues people.

Goalies

Louis Domingue $6,400 – This is a moderate risk GPP as his price is starting to slowly go upward. Domingue has ways of making saves and gaining wins as Arizona stays afloat in a nasty Pacific Division. His quality starts are off the chart due to a small sample size, but that is enough to indicate the likelihood of facing at least 30+ shots. That has occurred in four of his last five games. Saves mean points, so if Domingue can keep the score close and maybe gain a win then he will exceed value again.

Since we saved some money on the budget plays, let’s look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Tyler Seguin $8,500 – The Dallas Stars have had a tough time of it in the past week or so. But again, Dallas has that “it factor” against Minnesota where it seems like no matter the deficit or score, they can make something happen. That starts with Seguin, who is approaching 25 goals on the season. He still is playing with Jamie Benn on the man advantage and that is enough to buy in as the center is high priced but not insanely priced.

Wingers

Tyler Toffoli $5,800 – Though this is not the highest price play, maybe it should be. The right winger is nearing 20 goals on the season despite some early limitations as far as strategy. Now that Darryl Sutter has taken the wheels off, Toffoli has shown he can play just as well with Jeff Carter as he did with Anze Kopitar. Playing against St. Louis may only help as the Kings do match up very well. If for whatever reason he cannot go on Saturday, then kindly consider Daniel Sedin in your plans.

Defensemen

Kris Letang $5,900 – Letang has started to play with aggression and basically is at times almost unhinged. That is excellent for fantasy hockey owners, and his price is again solid enough to justify his production of late. Pittsburgh plays Montreal on a Saturday night and that could mean everything is happening. He has nine points in his last four games and is hitting everything in sight. He is as close to a plug and play from the backend as you can get on Saturday.

Goalies

Jonathan Quick $8,300 – This is a lower risk than people would think as St. Louis has lost five of their last six games and it seems as if every game has come from a stranger way to lose than the last. Quick has been playing consistently well. He keeps producing these hot nights with four starts of his last five above a .950 save percentage. He has won 12 of his last 14 starts and that may be reason enough to roll with Quick once more on Saturday night.
