Saturday NHL Picks: January 16, 2016

Quick and the Kings will hold court and other NHL winners on Saturday's slate.

As we near the All-star break, I continue to slide down in all of my fantasy leagues. The break could not come sooner as my record continues to deteriorate. I’m going to change it up and keep my analysis short this week. Here’s hoping to get an above .500 Saturday…

Record: 43 – 35

Ottawa @ Los Angeles (4pm ET)

I think the Kings will get the W easily in this one. For one they have played really well as of late and most especially at home as indicated by the stat below. Second, the Sens have gotten throttled in their last two games being outscored 11-2. Last, the Sens are struggling offensively and now they take on a hot goalie in Jonathan Quick. Take the Kings.

Key Stat: Kings are 9-2 in their last 11 home games.

Pick: Los Angeles – Home Team Win – H

Montreal @ St. Louis (7pm ET)

The Habs should take this one. Simply put the Blues are banged up and they even had to take a day off because the team was exhausted. Additionally, I’m not the biggest Brian Elliott fan and he looked horrid in his last start. Last, the Canadiens have owned the Blues over the last three games. I think the Blues will continue to slide until Jake Allen gets back and they get healthy again. Take the Habs.

Key Stat: Blues are 0-6 in their last 6 games play on 1 days’ rest.

Pick: Montreal – Visitor Team Win – V

Washington @ Buffalo (7pm ET)

This one seems like a no brainer. The Capitals are rested as the Sabres are on no rest. The Capitals are rolling as of late and they should pick the Sabres apart all night long. I would even consider a Puck line for this one as the Capitals could win by two goals or more easily. Take the Caps.

Key Stat: Capitals are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

Pick: Washington – Visitor Team Win – V

Colorado @ Columbus (7pm ET)

Why am I taking the Blue Jackets? Statistically there is no reason to take them really. However, I just have a gut feeling they will get it done here. Sergei Bobrovsky has been activated off the IR but will not start in this one. Joonas Korpisalo will get the nod as he had a tremendous game against the Leafs in his last outing. Give me the Blue Jackets as they will get things rolling down the stretch.

Key Stat: Road team is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

Pick: Columbus – Home Team Win – H

Minnesota @ Nashville (8pm ET)

I will continue to fade the Predators as long as Pekka Rinne is in the crease. I own Rinne in a majority of my leagues and all I can say is wow. Pekka has been absolute crap and I really don’t see how he will turn it around seeing how we are past the midway point. The Wild were shutout last night but it’s ok because they get Rinne so they should unload all their goals on him tonight. Take the Wild.

Key Stat:  Wild are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Nashville.

Pick: Minnesota – Visitor Team Win – V

Dallas @ San Jose (1030pm ET)

The Stars are starting to regress with seven losses in their last 10 games played. The Stars head into this game having lost to the Ducks last night in Anaheim. The Sharks on the other hand are starting to turn a corner and Brent Burns is leading the way. I really like the Sharks in this one against a tired Stars squad that has looked mediocre over the past few weeks. Give me the Sharks.

Key Stat: Stars are 0-5 in their last 5 road games.

Pick: San Jose – Home Team Win – H
