Fantasy Impact: The Kings have acquired Kris Versteeg from the Hurricanes in exchange for Valentin Zykov and a fifth round pick.

The Kings get: A depth wing scorer who can play on either side and has championship experience.

The Hurricanes get: A decent prospect and a late pick for a pending UFA.

Fantasy Players Impacted: With Marian Gaborik on the shelf until playoffs the Kings were looking for another winger to add some scoring punch to their lineup. Check out their lines from recent games:

In recent years Dustin Brown has been moved to the third line and is probably best served in that role. Meanwhile, Dwight King is putting in work on the second line. You’d assume that the Kings would love to get That 70’s Line back together at some point The would open up getting King and Brown for a heavy third line with Vincent Lecavalier. Could Kris Versteeg then skate with Anze Kopitar and Milan Lucic? It’s entirely possible. And Versteeg has thrived for brief stretches in similar roles before.

There’s also the question of power-play time and on this front it seems much more likely that Versteeg is deployed on the second unit, however the team is always tinkering.

In Carolina the void create here will be filled by… Brock McGinn? There’s not a whole lot here and if we’re being honest, Versteeg hadn’t done a whole lot recently so these aren’t exactly big shoes to fill. Jordan Staal, Joakim Nordstrom, Andrej Nestrasil, Jeff Skinner, Elias Lindholm and Victor Rask should all still be in Hurricane uniforms when the trade deadline dust settles but there really won’t be much change in their fantasy value from what they were before.

The Hurricanes acquisition of Zykov should help his stock as he joins a team getting thinner up front by the hour. He is in his first year of pro hockey at the AHL level and hasn’t had a huge impact so is likely a few years out but again this move likely trims his ETA. Read more on Zykov here.

Players this helps, in order:
