Cheap Players for Daily Fantasy Hockey: March 19, 2016

Bobrovsky makes a great play for Daily Fantasy Hockey and other cheap options for Saturday's slate.

Top Budget Plays

Centers

William Karlsson $2,500 – The last time New Jersey met Columbus in Columbus, the line of craziness had Karlsson winding up with three assists on the night in a 6-1 rout. No one is saying something like that may happen again but with how New Jersey is scoring goals against Minnesota, does anyone think the Devils can do that again? Exactly. This is dicey because the center shoots not quite enough but there have been flashes of potential in the young forward.

Wingers

Nikita Soshnikov $3,900 – There is a reason why we have him again here as he is on the first line playing left wing. The price is still reasonable right for now. He has cooled off a little in the last several games but again that shot is worth something and makes him at least merit some consideration. Considering the opponent that Soshnikov is up against and how well Toronto controls shots and scoring chances at home of late and maybe the young forward can be a surprise.

Defensemen

Connor Murphy $3,300 – There is not much after Oliver Ekman-Larsson but there are many high risk plays to take from the defensive ranks. Patrik Nemeth from Dallas was someone under consideration but Murphy is out there and literally Arizona has few options and not much in the way of defense lately. However, playing on the top power play and defensive pairing has its privileges. This would qualify as a high risk GPP play IF Ekman-Larsson returns on Saturday night. Just keep it in the back of your head in case.

Goalie

Garret Sparks $6,700 – It really should be a start for Sparks on Saturday but if it is Bernier, so be it. Either way. Toronto has a real chance of winning here in the battle of “tank wars”. There are no real tangible numbers that pan this out but both teams typically do not score much. Though the over/under will probably be 5, it may be worth a gamble to take here on a Saturday night where spending up will likely create better floor potential for your lineups.

Since we saved some money on the budget plays let’s look at the few of the pricey options that are worth paying up for today.

Centers

Vincent Trocheck $5,300 – Going with Alex Galchenyuk may be a viable idea too as there are quite a bevy of options on this Saturday night when it comes to higher priced players. However, Trocheck’s price has spiked in a big way. He has eight points in his last five games and is up to nearly 50 points on the season already. This has been some breakout considering the pivot was not a big part of Florida’s plans going into the year. He is a plug and play even on DraftKings.

Wingers

Nikita Kucherov $6,700 – Kucherov is playing on a line with Steven Stamkos. That is not a misprint and the chemistry has been pretty solid so far. With Ryan Callahan mightily struggling, something had to give. Tampa Bay has a pretty good first line and yet what happened against Toronto is not acceptable. They are bound to break out and Arizona may still be as good a team as any to break out against. The right winger has multiple point potential on this night.

Defenseman

Erik Karlsson $8,300 – Karlsson is simply going to have a pretty good match-up here against Montreal, who now has twelve players on the injured list. That is no misprint. At this point, the Canadiens are going to give up a hearty amount of shots which should create plenty of opportunities. When you consider what is left in Montreal, it makes the third highest scorer in the NHL that much more of an attractive buy on Saturday night.

Goalie

Sergei Bobrovsky $6,700 – Bobrovsky should see his price go up and he is playing a New Jersey team that has trouble scoring against most anyone but particularly Columbus. The last two meetings saw New Jersey score just two goals. Throw the goalie’s season stats out the window for a second and see that simply Columbus becomes a pretty good and almost safe play against the Devils. The only risk is New Jersey does not always hit the net with what is called frequency.

I think I’ll be spending big for Karlsson tonight, he’s worth it vs the lowly Habs! I like Soshni as a low cost option to be able to afford “Special K”

    Good recommendations Chris, thanks!
