St. Louis Signs David Perron

Fantasy Impact: The St. Louis Blues have signed winger David Perron to a two-year deal worth $3.75 million per season.

The Blues get: a three-time 20-goal scorer who is coming off his worst career offensive season (12 goals). Perron did start to come around once he joined the Ducks midseason as he posted eight goals and 20 points in just 28 games. He's only 28 so he's far from done.

Fantasy Players Impacted: The two players who will be most impacted here are Ty Rattie and Dmitrij Jaskin. Rattie is on the verge of making the team and in fact if he doesn't then he may not get into the NHL at all. He's 23 now and another year in the AHL when he's shown reasonable production (per minute of ice time) in the NHL would kill his confidence. Jaskin is the same age as Rattie but he's been an NHL for two years now. But his progress offensively has been stunted. Perron looking over his shoulder won't help. Perron has proven he can score 25 goals whereas Jaskin has that ability but has a career best of 13.

Of the 30 teams that Perron could have signed with, he was probably best to stay in Anaheim or perhaps join Bruce Boudreau in Minnesota. The Blues would not make my Top 10 for destinations. But we know what he can do with the Blues, he's been there before in a similar role. Just don't expect a 'pop' in the numbers.

Wow, how did he manage a salary that high given his poor play of late and his propensity for injuries? Minnesota signing him would have made sense, given their need to replace Vanek.
