The latest on injuries that may be affecting your fantasy lineup.

The Big Guns (>80% owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Sami VatanenThe flu kept Vatanen out of the lineup on Tuesday night. Coaching staff will decide Wednesday if the Finnish defensemen is healthy enough to travel on the team’s two-game trip.

Ryan O’ReillyAppendectomy? O’really? The timetable for these things is different with every player, but he could be out for up to three weeks. O’Reilly is a key component of the Sabres lineup, so the fantasy stock of some other Sabres (namely Rasmus Ristolainen and Evander Kane) might take a hit in his absence.

Justin FaulkWell, Faulk. Can we get a Band-Aid for this boy? Another injury (lower-body) will keep the Canes’ defensemen out of the lineup on a week-to-week basis. He had points in six of his last eight games (nine points) before the injury, so this comes at a bad time.

Marian HossaThe 37-year-old forward will miss the next few games with an upper body injury, he is hopeful for the Winter Classic though, so hopefully this isn’t too serious.

Tyler ToffoliNo timetable for his return just yet, and he won’t even be evaluated until early 2017. A lower body injury hasn’t stopped him from skating, but he’s still some ways away from returning.

Henrik LundqvistNo surgery needed for the King, just some chicken noodle soup and rest. The flu kept the Rangers’ goaltender out of Tuesday night’s lineup against the Senators.

The Second Liners (50%-80% owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Patrick SharpIf I’m extremely familiar with a player because they appear on this list week after week, that probably isn’t good news for their fantasy value. I feel like a broken record telling you that Sharp is getting closer and closer to a return, but that’s all I can tell you without a timetable.

Mike GreenHe won’t be back in the Wings lineup for the rest of the week. He seemed to be putting together a bounce-back season with 18 points in 32 games, but injuries have hindered him throughout his career.

Jonathan DrouinThe Lightning can’t catch a break in the injury department. Nikita Kucherov, Ben Bishop, Ondrej Palat, Ryan Callahan, Steven Stamkos, and now Jonathan Drouin. An undisclosed injury forced Drouin to leave the game on December 24 against the Capitals. No substantial updates have been provided since then, so consider the young Lightning forward day-to-day.

The Depth Guys (20%-50% owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Semyon VarlamovThe Avalanche goaltender is being re-evaluated to find out more about his groin injury, expect more details to be released Wednesday. Usually when a goaltender goes down, his backup sees a spike in value, but Colorado’s goaltending situation is a straight dumpster fire. If someone offers you Calvin Pickard or Semyon Varlamov in a trade, run away as fast as you can and don’t look back.

Antoine RousselAt the start of the season, if you told me Antoine Roussel was going to be owned in 34% of Yahoo leagues, I would have laughed in your face and slapped you upside the head. To my surprise, the Stars forward has been seeing fantasy relevance this season, on pace for a career high in points while providing solid peripherals. Of course a plethora of injuries for Dallas early on allowed Roussel to take on a bigger role, but he could remain valuable in deep leagues for the rest of the season. As of right now, an upper-body injury sustained in practice will keep him out of the lineup for the near future.

Jimmy HowardAn MCL sprain will keep the Red Wings goaltender on the shelf for the next three to five weeks. After a fantastic start to the season, Howard is sporting some sparkling numbers (1.96 GAA, .934 SV%), but injuries have prevented him from fully taking the starting role in Detroit. Petr Mrazek will definitely be seeing more time, but the Red Wings aren’t as good as they once were, so don’t expect a lot of wins.

Michal NeuvirthStill not feeling 100 percent, and probably won’t play within the week, but definitely getting close to a return as he is travelling with the team. Steve Mason has definitely grabbed a hold of the starting gig in Neuvirth’s absence, but it will be interesting to see how management handles two healthy goalies.

The Mr. Irrelevants (<20% owned in Yahoo Leagues)

Cody FransonUndisclosed injury. Those are the worst because it doesn’t allow us to speculate when he will be returning to the lineup and how severe the injury is. All we know is that he has missed the last three games.

Troy BrouwerIt’s been a pretty good start to the season for Troy Brouwer, continuing to flirt with a half point/game pace that he has hovered around during his career. Unfortunately, a hand injury kept him out of Tuesday’s lineup against the Avalanche. Expect a more detailed update on Wednesday when the Flames know more.

Darren HelmHe isn’t expected to return to the lineup this week, as a shoulder injury has kept him on the shelf since November.

Reilly SmithA concussion will keep the Panthers forward out of the lineup for the next seven to ten days. The Panthers just haven’t been looking the same as last season (Jonathan Huberdeau injury an obvious reason), but they have been a good team because of their depth, and losing Smith definitely doesn’t help that.
