Ryan Getzlaf pays another visit to the IR, plus many more unfortunate injuries

The Big Guns (>75% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Ryan Getzlaf – I swear this is the millionth time the Ducks’ captain has been on this list, with a different injury each time (maybe I’m exaggerating). Is he a band-aid boy? Well that’s not fair to say considering this latest injury happened as he was struck by a deflected puck. Maybe unlucky is a better way to put it. Since Getzlaf was placed on injured reserve, he will be out for at least the next three games, making November 7 the earliest possible return date.
Cam Atkinson – After breaking out last season with 62 points in 82 games (35 goals!), the Blue Jackets’ forward has had a relatively slow start to the season with only five points in his first 11 games. Unfortunately, a hip injury has been preventing him from skating and the best we can do is consider him day-to-day.
Shayne Gostisbehere – The Ghost will not be here for at least the next two games, and is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. All we know right now is that he’s not travelling with the team on their two-game road trip, so Saturday night against Colorado is the earliest he may return. Gostisbehere has gotten off to a sizzling hot start this season with 13 points in his first 11 games. That sophomore slump is certainly in the rearview mirror, so let’s just hope he stays healthy.
Justin Schultz – The Penguins’ defenseman will not be travelling with the team as they tour Western Canada on a three-game road trip. While it’s still possible Schultz joins the team in the middle of their road trip, he’ll be recovering at home for now.
The Second Liners (40%-75% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Marc-Andre Fleury – At this point, Fleury is with the team but hasn’t been cleared to play. While it is a good sign that he’s with Vegas on their road trip, not being medically cleared yet means there is progress to be made.
Kyle Turris – The Senators’ forward has been dealing with a viral infection and the team wants to make sure he’s feeling 100 percent before returning to the lineup. Coach Guy Boucher is a believer that Turris will be ready to go on Thursday when Ottawa takes on the Red Wings. Already with eight points in nine games this season, look for Turris to flirt with the 60-point mark if he can stay healthy the rest of the way.
Cam Fowler – About three to seven weeks left in the estimated timeline. We’ll have more specific updates as he gets closer to a return.
Roberto Luongo – Improving, but likely out for another week. I think the most important thing to take away from Luongo’s injury is the Niemi sweepstakes. If for some reason James Reimer isn’t starting, start your players against Antti Niemi!
Matt Niskanen – Has been skating, but is yet to join the team in practice. Isn’t eligible to return until November 7, so expect a more satisfying update in next week’s edition.
The Depth Guys (10%-40% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Antti Raanta – There was a lot of hype when Raanta arrived in Arizona, but a lower-body injury has prevented him from really making his mark on the team. It seems like he’s inching closer and closer to a return, especially after the team put Louis Domingue on waivers. With only one win so far this season, are the Coyotes really looking to win more games, or are they fallin for Dahlin?
Jaromir Jagr – Has been making great progress and is a possibility for Thursday night’s game against the Penguins.
Nolan Patrick – The second overall pick of the 2017 draft is currently day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Three points in his first nine games isn’t too bad, certainly not Clayton Keller level, but Patrick hasn’t been getting the same deployment. He won’t be travelling with the team on their two-game road trip, making Saturday night against the Avalanche the earliest possible date for his return.
David Krejci – What originally seemed to be a minor back injury is causing more and more concern as the Bruins’ forward is missing more and more time. This doesn’t seem to be one of those injuries with a definite timeline, our only option is to play it by ear.
Anton Khudobin – Suffered a minor tweak in Sunday’s practice. With Tuukka Rask back, this isn’t major news.
Kyle Palmieri – The Devils’ forward has been out of the lineup since injuring his foot in practice on October 19. It seems Palmieri will miss at least three more games as he continues to recover, making the earliest possible return November 7 against the Blues. Palmieri has put up back-to-back 50-point seasons with Devils, and it will be interesting to watch how he produces with the added offensive threat of Nico Hischier.
Charlie Coyle – The walking boot is off! Although the original timeline had him returning late November or early December, this is a great sign of progress.
Brock Boeser – At the start of the season, I didn’t expect any Canucks’ forwards to be relevant in my shallow fantasy leagues. With the Sedins on the decline, maybe Brandon Sutter or Bo Horvat get a spot start every once in a while, but that’s it right? Boy was I wrong. Brock Boeser has introduced himself to the NHL in a big way already with nine points in his first eight games, leading the Canucks in scoring despite playing fewer games than most. While a foot injury came at an awful time for Boeser, it doesn’t look too serious. He could be back Wednesday against the Devils, but Saturday against the Penguins seems more likely.
Oscar Dansk – Hey you know Vegas’ goalie? No, not that one. Nope, not that one either. I’m talking about their third string tendy. He’s going to be out for at least the next four games.
The Mr. Irrelevants (<10% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Nick Ritchie – “Unclear” is the best way to describe Ritchie’s status for Wednesday against the Leafs. He was hit with a pick while the team was working out.
