Thoughts on Steenbergen? Arizona seems like it could use a kid like him?

    • Dobber 2017-11-13 at 11:13

Could just be another Connor Garland, so be cautious. But this was my oversight. For some stupid reason I thought he wasn’t drafted yet so although I looked at him, I “overlooked” him. Didn’t even have him on my list. I’m a real idiot for that one. I just put him into my template now and he sits around 178th

      • Howard 2017-11-18 at 16:14

How about Aleksi Heponiemi? Was that also an oversight, or did he simply not crack the list?

  2. Paul 2017-11-13 at 17:18

What’s with Tolvanen’s rank/value? He’s killing the KHL as an 18 year old (looks on track to outscore what Kuznetsov and Tarasenko did in their 18-year-old seasons), has already played two years in North America in the USHL.

    • Dobber 2017-11-13 at 18:26

Nashville factor implies long wait time (Fiala, Arvidsson, etc), KHL factor implies risk, and over the past month his KHL numbers have really slowed. He did it all in the first month.
Take a look at the leaders – he’s far behind such “proven” NHL studs as Linden Vey and Nigel Dawes, for example. Don’t put the horse before the wagon

      • Chad Grisdale 2017-11-17 at 15:11

So what’s the logic behind Kaprizov being so high? His wait is minimum 3 years, same league & weaker output. You’re telling me that Kaprizov is really 100 spots better? Credit for moving Tolvanen up 80 spots from last month but putting the cart before the horse is what the list is all about. Look at production relative to peers (past & present) to determine future outlook. Tolvanen is going to break Kuznetsov’s 18yo record & has already beat Tarasenko, Buchnevich & Kaprizov full season totals. That’s some pretty elite company.

        • Dobber 2017-11-17 at 16:52

So is Nigel Dawes. Not too impressed, actually. But if you were watching from the start you’ll see that Tolvanen’s production has slid over the past month. Got it all early on.

Anyway, Kaprizov – same idea. Know why he’s so high? Because two years ago when I had him low, 50 commenters and Tweeters and emailers bugged and bugged me about him being so low. Why was he so low? He’s awesome. He’s about to break so-and-so’s record. I gradually moved him up into the Top 10. And Tolvanen, over time, will be the same. Gradual. Needs to be earned. Artem Anisimov led the NHL in scoring around this time last year, how did he end up?

Tolvanen went up 80 spots this month. Can that be enough for now? And maybe 80 spots next month? No? He’s a sure thing? There’s a reason why 20 other teams passed on him at the draft – his NHL signing isn’t a lock.

Using my +/- 5.0 guideline, Tolvanen could be as high as 100th here. You came here for my opinion but I’m not forcing you to agree with me. I hate having to wait 4 years on a guy, eating up a roster spot. Kaprizov is a full year closer than Tolvanen, that means a lot. He’s also more proven and impressive production-wise over a longer term. My lack of wanting to wait for players for 4 years has caused me to trade players like Tarasenko – but then I used that roster spot for two years and did well with it.

If I’m a little defensive, I’m sorry. It’s been a terribly rough week. I’ve been in the hospital all week, feeling terrible. Just not good. And I feel like Tolvanen has bombarded me since I put out this list. Not just here, but on Twitter readers are relentless. I guess I should be happy that people care, but as I said it’s been a tough week. I’d love nothing more than to go the rest of this month without hearing the Tolvanen name, and next month if I never hear his name I’ll be over the moon with joy

  3. Tommi Edward Kenttä 2017-11-14 at 10:32

So no Jake Evans in this list? 19 points in 12 games, leading NCAA scoring and Notre Dame next best guy has 12 points.

  4. R McGinnis 2017-11-16 at 13:55

Tolvaven is far too low on this list. He may be in the KHL (this year) but he is a lock for top 30. He is putting up some historic numbers. He is closer to the NHL than many players on this list. Necas is another player I’d like to see a bit higher, and I would reverse Rodin and Dahlen for the Canucks prospect list (similar situation as the Stecher/Subban debate from last year). Dahlen will be in North America next year with Pettersson, either the AHL or more likely landing in the NHL to replace D Sedin. I think Rodin is going to need to play elsewhere to really get a shot and has not had much of an impact in the AHL this year.
