Fantasy Hockey Podcast: Couture Club

Elan Dubrofsky

2019-05-06

Hello, hello, hello! It's another spring series edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast!

In this show's first half, Elan and Brian are inspired by the happenings of the Stanley Cup Playoffs' second round to discuss the rich irony of the Hurricanes goaltending, the pumpkin-ing of the Islanders goaltending, and the futures of a couple forwards on each team who had standout seasons for reasons both good and bad. They also try to nip any speculation on the St. Louis Blues' PP1 quarterback in the bud, give appropriate praise to one established and one up-and-coming Star, speculate on the potential of a repeat situation in the Bruins' crease next year, and wonder whether a Predators stud is actually that.

In the second half, we kick off our Almanac review and self-evaluation, where we look back at our projections to celebrate the hits and understand and learn from the misses. To begin, we go easy on ourselves, looking at the player point projections on which we were furthest apart from other projectors, but ended up being right about. Don't worry… we'll hold ourselves fully accountable for the ones we got wrong in the offseason episodes to come.

This episode was prepared with great help from @fantasyref, who sent us all their data on how we did on our projections, as well as how our projections stacked up to all the others. Check out their site and this year's rankings!

And finally.. we announced on this episode that the Keeping Karlsson Audio Almanac will be returning for the 2019-20 season! You can pre-order yours at keepingkarlsson.com/almanac. (If you didn't listen to the 2018-19 Almanac and want to check it out, it's now available on a pay-what-you-want basis.)

Players discussed on this episode include Petr Mrazek, Curtis McElhinney, Robin Lehner, Jaccob Slavin, Anders Lee, Brock Nelson, Logan Couture, Tomas Hertl, Timo Meier, Vince Dunn, Alex Pietrangelo, Tyler Seguin, Roope Hintz, Tuukka Rask, Jaroslav Halak, Filip Forsberg, Andreas Athanasiou, Jakub Vrana, Tom Wilson, Jon Carlson, Nathan MacKinnon, Evgeni Dadonov, Jack Eichel and more.

Keeping Karlsson Short Shifts – The Wilkes-Jarry Penguins

Elizabeth and Lewis are back to take listeners through a host of power play changes that are giving managers the opportunity to get exposure to great players off the waiver wire, including Philly, Jersey, and Tampa talk. They also cover Jarry’s AHL demotion, Cooley’s ascension to the top-line and powerplay, and injuries to Tavares and Hintz. The duo wrap up with some hot and cold streak deep dives, including discussion of the Red Wings crazy powerplay success in the last ten games, whether Erik Gustafsson is rosterable or an overperforming illusion, Fantilli’s continued success, Merilainen as Hamburglar 2.0, and whether Schenn’s success and Neighbours’ lack thereof are likely to continue.
