Lining Up: Killorn, Eberle and Bellows, Copp, and more low-owned options

Welcome to another week of 'Lining Up'. Over the past few days, we've learned that Darryl Sutter has the Flames rolling, that the Capitals aren't going to let anyone run away with the division, and that family members of Leafs fans should be doing wellness checks on them for the fourth or fifth time this season.
Let us review quickly what we are doing here. The forwards below have lower rostered rates (40 percent or less in Yahoo leagues) and therefore are hopefully available on your waiver wire. We hope to highlight situations where these players are skating on lines with quality teammates and/or on power play units. Or are simply just performing very well at the moment.
Hopefully you are cruising into the fantasy playoffs, but not all of us are that lucky. For those who want some streaming options, need to replace some injuries, or simply are sick of underperforming players, let's take a look at some possibilities to help your squad catch lightning in a bottle.
LU's Top Line – Our first line this week features a player from a team called The Lightning, a player whose last name looks like it was struck by lightning, and a player who's giving his team a jolt of electricity at just the right time.
- Alex Killorn TBL – LW,RW (40 percent) – Over his last seven games Killorn has eight points (4G,4A), with three of those points coming on the power play. The lines in Tampa Bay have been shuffled a bit lately with Yanni Gourde centering Killorn and Steven Stamkos. The interesting thing about this line is that they are getting the majority of the chances when they are on the ice at even strength (CF% = 60.8), but have been outscored in the last few games, leading to some games in the minus column for Killorn. The good news is that as mentioned he is making up for it on the top power play unit, while also posting 23 SOG in his last seven games. Killorn will also deliver just over a hit per game as well. If you are looking for a player to jumpstart your points and PPP categories, give Killorn a run on your roster and he just might stick for you the rest of the way. Tampa Bay has four games remaining this week.
- Carter Verhaeghe FLA – C,LW (36 percent) – Verhaeghe has been a 'Lining Up' favorite all year. He has been a constant on Florida's top line, playing with Hart trophy candidate Aleksander Barkov. The other member of that line has most often been Anthony Duclair, but lately has been changing hands between few different players. Verhaeghe had a bit of a cold stretch after surprising a lot of fantasy managers with his hot start to the season. Now he is heating up again with six points (3G,3A) in his last four games, as well as being a plus-six in those games. The knock on Verhaeghe is that he currently isn't on the power play for the Panthers, and he also does not often chip in with hits or blocks. But his SOG is solid at 2.3 per game, and his 5v5 shooting percentage is not too high at 9.2. So if Florida's top line can stay as productive as they have been all year you could be looking at sustained point production from Verhaeghe.
- Kasperi Kapanen PIT – LW,RW (36 percent) – After being acquired for a first-round pick Kapanen didn't have much success on the Pens' top line, losing ice time and eventually getting benched. But now he may have found a nice spot skating on Pittsburg's second line next to a resurgent Evgeni Malkin. In the last eight games Kap has nine points (4G,5A) and is a plus six. He is also on the second power play unit, but so far has not provided much production there. Kapanen generates about a hit per game, and has recently increased his shot production, inching closer to a two per game average. Of course you would like to see that go even higher if he wants to grab a continuing spot on your roster, but as long as Malkin is showing signs of becoming his old self again, it is more than a prudent consideration to see if Kapanen can continue their chemistry and provide you some scoring production. Pittsburg has four games remaining this week.
LU's Second Line – Or, the all-Islanders line. What can we say, New York is crushing it right now and you should have a piece of it. Check out these guys to add some blue and orange to your lineup.
- Jordan Eberle NYI –RW (26 percent) – The Islanders are on a roll right now, winning a lot of games as they sit atop the East division. Eberle is part of New York's top line along with Mathew Barzal and, until recently, Anders Lee who just landed on long term IR. That line was the fourth highest scoring line in the NHL this year, so the loss of Lee could be significant. At the same time, it may provide an opportunity for Eberle to step up with more production. Recently, he has had seven points (1G,6A) in his last seven games, as well as 20 SOG in that span. Eberle is on the first power play unit, but does not have too much to show for it at this time with only three PPP on the year. He averages half a hit per game, and will throw in the occasional block. Eberle is a bit like the Islanders themselves, seemingly boring but you look up and see a bunch of points on the board.
- Kieffer Bellows NYI – LW,RW (11 percent) – Bellows has grabbed Lee's spot on the top line for the Islanders next to Eberle and Barzal. So far, he has made a great impression with that unit, scoring three goals in this first two games there. He also had four SOG in those two games and added three hits on Sunday. This is definitely a grab him while he's hot situation. Bellows could stay on this line and keep producing, but there is also a chance that he goes right back into Barry Trotz's dog house where he has spent much of the year until just recently. But if you are optimistic like us you see an opportunity to grab a player on one of the top lines in the league. Bellows also skates with the second power play unit.
- Brock Nelson NYI – C (38 percent) – We told you it was the All Islanders line. Nelson is on a tear right now with seven points in his last seven games, including six goals. Brock has also been putting up some very nice shot numbers over those seven games with 25 SOG total. Nelson centers the second power play unit and has six PPP on the year. His TOI is healthy at an average of 17:41 per game, and he will bring about half a hit per game. If you are in a faceoff league Nelson has a small advantage on his opponents for the season with a 50.6 win percentage. Nelson is also a good option as a less expensive DFS play and has been doing a great job of propping up lineups lately.
LU's Third Line – No Islanders here, just some solid Tippetts you can take to Labanc. Don't like our terrible puns? Call a Copp.
- Kevin Labanc SJS – LW,RW (9 percent) – Labanc is in a nice spot right now, skating on the Sharks top line with Logan Couture and Evander Kane. He is also on the top power play unit. You may wonder why you would want a lesser-known part of San Jose's offense, but they have been putting up solid numbers of late and scoring about 3.5 goals per game as a team for several games. This top line with Labanc is now the eighth most productive line in the NHL at 5v5. As far as Labanc himself, he has four points (2G,2A) in his last three games, averages 2.4 SOG per game, and will also get you about a hit per game. With dual wing eligibility Labanc is definitely worth a stream and could hold a spot on your squad for a while.
- Owen Tippett FLA – RW (1 percent) – Tippett has seen ice time all over the lineup, and currently he is on the Panthers third line, but also picks up power play minutes with the second unit. He is worth mentioning here because he is currently on a four-game point streak with three goals and an assist in his last four. Tippett's ice time is problematic, averaging only 11:09 per game on the year. He does provide 1.5 SOG per game, and 1.4 hits per game during that time. Tippett is worth a look in deeper leagues or as a cheaper DFS play. If he doesn't suit your needs now, keep an eye on him if he jumps up to one of Florida's top two lines.
- Andrew Copp WPG – C,LW (26 percent) – Copp has stepped up his scoring lately with four points (1G,3A) in his last four games, including two PPP during that stretch. He does a nice job of covering multiple categories and if he can keep up his scoring he will be a very valuable fantasy asset. Copp averages 2.2 SOG per game, 1.4 hits per game, and about a block per game. Consistency is key for Copp's value, he does tend to go cold for games at a time. So grab him to see where his current streak goes and pick up some peripheral stats along the way.
LU's Fourth Line – Ok, we'll spare you the word play for these guys. Just some solid deep options to consider if you need a spark.
- Jujhar Khaira EDM – C,LW (6 percent) – Khaira is our banger pickup of the week. He is averaging 4.0 hits per game this year, and has stepped it up even more over the last two weeks. He does have eight points on the season, including three goals, so you might see some scoring from him, but mostly Khaira is bringing those hits to the table. He will also throw down the gloves every now and then and pick up some much needed PIM for you as well. Just check the injury list to make sure he's fine after his fight last night.
- Radek Faksa DAL – C (2 percent) – Dallas is struggling right now, but one glimmer for them has been the "FCC Line", with Faksa, Blake Comeau, and Andrew Cogliano. Faksa has four points (2G,2A) in his last six games and he also brings the hits, averaging 2.0 per game.
- Janne Koukkanen NJD – RW (1 percent) – We could have and maybe should have Koukkanen on a higher line, seeing as he has a four game goal streak in progress. He also posted an assist in one of those games to give him five points in his last four. He had a PPP in Sunday's game as well. Keep an eye on Koukkanen and don't be afraid to scoop him up to see if he can add some scoring to your lineup.
