Fantasy Impact: Devils Win Dougie Hamilton Lottery

The New Jersey Devils have signed prized star defenseman Dougie Hamilton to a seven-year deal reportedly worth $9M AAV.

The Devils Get: one of the few defensemen capable of putting up 70 points in a season. Hamilton is 28 and in his last 102 games his production rate was a 68-point pace. He seems to be still on the rise.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Hamilton makes a huge difference to this team and the power play. This is a massive impact on Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Pavel Zacha. It probably hurts Damon Severson, Ty Smith and PK Subban (who had lost most of his value anyway). Hamilton may not do quite as well offensively with the Devils as he did with the Hurricanes, but he'll still get his points. Hamilton led the Hurricanes in driving relative possession. He can be thrown out there against anyone and arguably becomes New Jersey's top offensive star.

As for Hamilton himself, he was probably going to get the same (huge) number of points regardless of his team. Short of a low-scoring team like Nashville, Seattle, Buffalo, Arizona or Columbus, there was really no wrong landing spot for him.
