Welcome back to a special edition of Lining Up. This week will examine some hot players with helpful upcoming schedules but with a twist. In the spirit of Olympics, players will be grouped into "teams" from different countries.
Let's dive in.
Team Canada
Zack Kassian – Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Zach Hyman
Starting with Team Canada they will actually be able to pull a whole line from EDM, really play on the chemistry aspect for building a roster. Since the arrival of Evander Kane, Hyman now lines up with the third line of Kassian and Nugent-Hopkins. The results so far have been solid with three goals for and none against.
Nugent-Hopkins is the best player to target from this line as he has so far retained his spot on the top power-play unit with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Besides that he is also on a hot streak with eight points in his last six games played. On the season he has been performing well and is on pace for 75 points plus is shooting at nearly two and a half shots per game, decent contributions.
Hyman certainly took a hit when Kane supplanted him on the top line, but Hyman would not take it lying down and has been producing after a cold spell with five points in his last three games. This hot streak also comes with cold advanced stats, particularly his secondary assist rate and 5on5 shooting percentage. Watch for those to potentially regress positively and add to his current hot streak. Hyman is also contributing in the peripherals with over one and two and a half shots per game and at 66% rostered in Yahoo leagues should be available in leagues if your squad is in need of help.
Meanwhile if you are in need of hits or penalty minutes with the extra chance of points, take a flier on Kassian. He is in a great spot lining up beside Nugent-Hopkins and Hyman, plus with over two and a half hits per game he can really chip in since EDM plays eight times between this week and next.
This pair from EDM will also work nicely for Team Canada, again utilizing some built in chemistry as the pair have played for nearly 500 minutes together so far. Both players have been playing very well lately with Nurse having four points in his last five games and Bouchard at five points in his last six. In their extensive time as a pair, they have also been solid with a 56.2 CF% and that is when playing against a higher quality of competition.
Nurse is a well-known commodity, on the season he has over three and a half shots, three hits and a block and a half per game to go along with a 45-point pace. Just all around monster asset to own if you can get him.
Bouchard however is the up and coming star. With Barrie back in the fold, Bouchard has lost his power-play spot but don't bet against talent. All of his advanced stats indicate he is well within normal performance metrics and over the last six games he has 17 shots and 9 blocks on top of the point streak. With several teams having light schedules, consider adding Bouchard as he is only 61% rostered in Yahoo leagues.
All of these Team Canada hopefuls play three games this week and five games the following week with the revised schedule. That is tied with OTT for the most games out of any team during this span. By comparison, nearly a third of the league plays half or less games than EDM. Get any one of the names above if you are short.
Team Sweden
Forsberg – Nyquist
Team Sweden will pull two forwards from different teams but both are currently riding hot streaks. Sweden will surely be bolstered by a red hot Filip Forsberg who has five goals and eight points in his last four games to go along with 12 shots on goal. On the season he and the rest of his regular teammates in NSH have been performing above expectations but Forsberg currently has 36 points in 32 games for a pace of 92 points. Even though he has a high shooting percentage of 25, if he happens to be available in your league as he is only 86% rostered in Yahoo leagues, pick him up.
Fellow Swedish player Gustav Nyquist is also on a streak of his own with four points in his last three games joining with fellow European Patrick Laine on the top line. These two, along with Boone Jenner, have played well lately with seven goals for and five against over the past month. Take a gamble on Nyquist as CBJ have three games remaining this week and another three next including two against BUF, one against MON one against CHI. Great matchups and as previously outlined, significantly more games than a third of the league.
Stay tuned for more Olympic rosters next week and stay safe.
