Fantasy Impact: Carolina Acquires Max Domi

The Columbus Blue Jackets have traded winger Max Domi to the Carolina Hurricanes for prospect defenseman Aiden Hreschuk. There is a third team involved in this trade to make the money work – Florida, who take on 25% of the salary. Columbus gives Florida a sixth-round draft pick and Carolina gives them Yegor Korshkov to cover that cost.

The Jackets get: a two-way prospect defenseman currently finishing his freshman year at Boston College. He was drafted in the third round last summer. His scouting profile is here.

The Panthers get: Korshkov’s profile is here.

The Canes get: a 27-year-old with a career high of 72 points, but who hasn't produced beyond a 51-point pace in the last three seasons. Domi has been used as a winger this year because at center he has yet to really get a handle on winning faceoffs.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Domi's arrive likely knocks Jesper Fast out of the top nine. This could also impact the ice time and PP time of Martin Necas and/or Nino Niederreiter. And, most importantly, this jeopardizes Seth Jarvis's spot in the NHL. While it's unlikely Jarvis gets sent down, the risk is certainly there. Coach Rod Brind'Amour leans on his veterans, and if he likes what Domi brings more than he trusts the rookie Jarvis – then it's not good news for Jarvis owners. For this year.

Initially, Domi should get a great opportunity and may see a short-term spike in his numbers before the adrenalin wears off and he starts falling down the lineup.

With Domi gone, there is opportunity for more ice time for Alexandre Texier, who is currently on a personal leave of absence. But really, all the youngers will benefit – Yegor Chinakhov, Emil Bemstrom and even prospect Kent Johnson when he finishes up his college season.
