I don’t get it, Berniers is clearly leading all eligible prospects in this list yet Rossi is 10 points higher?
Bernier doesn’t have near the upside of Rossi, nor is he on a team that will surround him with studs to help him reach it. I think deep down you know this.
I’m not sure this is aging well. Admittedly it might just be a guy playing a very mature game or peaking early but he’s been thrust into the role of topline center with the deployment, matches and icetime that entails and hes…. not only survived but thrived! I don’t own beniers but in trade talks I’m valuing him as a topline C (ppg or so) with at least 10 more points of hypothetixal upside. I just feel like Jason robertson and tage Thompson are showing us that we have to consistently re-evaluate the pure upside of certain players. I have no issue with benoers ranking ftr but I do wonder if he has the capacity to shock and awe us in fantasy land…
In 2024 we can discuss comments aging well, but I’ll never change an opinion drastically about a prospect’s upside in two months like that and you shouldn’t either. Not good practice. Tweak, but don’t completely turn upside down.
I think Rossi can be a 100-point player. I won’t change this opinion within the next year, so we can circle back to this every month if you want but you know my stance. He had an entire year off, so treat him as a year younger.
With Beniers, my initial projection as a prospect had him peaking in the low 70s. Now I think he can get mid 80s. He’s a much better offensive player than I realized, but more importantly – his game is translating to the NHL very quickly. We do need to constantly evaluate and tweak these guys, that’s why I do the rankings every month.
Where’s Tolvanen on this list? Both him and Frost are 23 – and are ranked similar in the Top 300 keepers. I thought he’d be on this list for sure.
Damn – didn’t realize he had so many games played last season.
Add Jordan Dumais CLB to your list and just thank me later.
He’s 278th. In my experience, 5-9 players take several years and often struggle to transition from 140-point junior seasons to even sticking in the AHL when they’re 20. Especially ones not taken in the top 50. If you own him, you’re probably sitting on him until he’s 23 before he finally gets a 50-point NHL season. Some don’t make it at all (Steenbergen). But as I see more from him (WJC, especially) I’ll quickly move him higher, trust me on that. What’s holding him down is the wait time.
Marco Rossi’s NHL career to date: 21 yrs old, 14 GP, 1 point. An undersized player takes 400 games to break-out. There has to be a dozen guys on this list who should be above Rossi.
– Rossi owner since 2020
Problem is – I can’t name 3 guys on this entire list with Rossi’s upside. And while he is 21, he missed a year – so best to consider him “20” for fantasy purposes. And nobody – nobody – has his conditioning.
Good to know! I pitched fiala for him and Cooley (and tolvanen for a dman swap but thats just to balance active rosters)
Fiala? Fiala has upside in the mid-90s. No way you trade him for any prospect.
Not a big dwal- just pointing out- Rossi has a rating of 8.0. I’m not even sure its a mistake as I know this list doesn’t represent “pure talent” so to speak but I often give some weight to a prospects dp rating and 8 feels low to me when he tops this list. Can you at least arify if the rating is correct?? Thanks…
He is a 9.7 now. Obviously the MIN scout at DobberProspects reacts quickly/changes opinion. I don’t believe in that. I believe in slow, steady adjustments and giving prospects the time they need. People who knock Rossi’s upside down to 80 points are the same people who knocked Tage Thompson’s upside down to 50 points two years ago.
