Fantasy Take: Arizona Swaps Timmins to Toronto for Douglas

Toronto and Arizona have swapped depth skaters to fill some organizational needs.

What the Coyotes Get:

Size and depth for their AHL team, and a possible future depth forward, for a defenceman that they were going to lose on waivers anyways. Curtis Douglas is not a player that needs to be on the fantasy radar at the moment.

What the Leafs Get:

A right-shot defenceman who was not going to make it to Toronto's slot in the waiver order.

Conor Timmins is a high-upside defenceman whose development to this point has been derailed by injuries. Originally drafted by Colorado, this will be his third franchise and he will be coming in as an injury-filler, who may not be a top-six option when everyone (outside of Jake Muzzin) is healthy.

Timmins has only two appearances this season, so any regular playing time is an upgrade. He may get a short-term boost, but the hype of him in Toronto will likely far out-strip his actual value, both short and long-term. If you own him for whatever reason at this point, see if the Leafs fan in your league is open to paying up for him.

As mentioned in the Ryan Reaves write up from an hour ago, any time a team trades for a depth player, it’s a positive for their fantasy value. This is because you know the team is going to do everything they can to try and find the right fit for the player, which usually includes a bit more ice time, and often an opportunity or two a little bit further up the lineup in the first few games.
