Here's the latest injury news from across the NHL! If you're looking for information about a specific player and don't see their name in this article, there probably haven't been any significant updates about their progress since our last article. John Klingberg – Has missed Anaheim's last three games due to a lower-body injury. Depending on how he's feeling, he may join the team at some point on this current road trip, which includes a stop in Dallas on Thursday, Minnesota on Saturday and Winnipeg on Sunday. At this point, it seems unlikely he'll be ready to face his old team on Thursday.
Eric Comrie – The Sabres netminder remains week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
Frederik Andersen – Is not travelling with the team on its current road trip out West, which includes a stop in St. Louis on Thursday, Los Angeles on Saturday, and Anaheim on Tuesday. As a result, Andersen probably won't be available for Carolina's next three games. Although he's yet to practice with the team, he's done some solo work on the ice. A lower-body injury has kept Andersen sidelined since November 6th.
Teuvo Teravainen – Practiced with the team on Monday, although he wasn't taking any contact. Teravainen is with the team on its three-game trip through the West, so it's possible he returns within these next three games. He's been sidelined with an upper-body injury since November 10th.
Alex Stalock – Participated in Sunday's morning skate but didn't feel well afterwards, so the team slowed down his rehab. He's been in concussion protocol for the past month, experiencing some good days and bad days. Recovering from a concussion is usually an unpredictable process that requires day-to-day monitoring, so there's no concrete timetable for his return.
Sam Lafferty – Will be sidelined for at least a week due to a back injury.
Evan Rodrigues – Colorado's forward will be out for two-to-four weeks because of a lower-body injury. He's enjoyed the largest opportunity of his career this season, skating 18 minutes a night and seeing 59% of the team's total power-play time. Unfortunately, that's resulted in just nine points over 18 appearances.
Bowen Byram – Has been skating on his own recently. Byram is expected to ramp up the intensity of his skates while his teammates are on the road, which suggests he won't be available for Colorado's three-game road trip through the East. The 21-year-old defenseman has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since November 4th.
Valeri Nichushkin – The Avalanche forward could skate at some point this week. On November 8th, it was announced Nichushkin would be sidelined for a month after having ankle surgery.
Patrik Laine – Practiced with the team on Wednesday. He'll travel to Winnipeg for Friday's clash with the Jets, and could play in that game, depending on how his ankle responds to practice this week. On November 14th, the team announced he'd be sidelined for three to four weeks with a sprained ankle. Even if he doesn't return Friday, it sounds like he's progressing ahead of schedule.
Elvis Merzlikins – On November 20th, we learned the Blue Jackets' netminder would be sidelined for a week-or-two due to a hip injury. He's been skating and practicing recently, which suggests he'll be back soon.
Kailer Yamamoto – Has been day-to-day with an undisclosed injury since November 8th. Although he's been practicing recently, the fact that he was recently placed on Injured Reserve (IR) suggests a return isn't imminent. Since he's already missed three weeks of action, he can be activated at any point, but I don't know why the team would put him on IR now if he was about to return. Some reports indicate he could be dealing with a concussion, which would explain why he's been day-to-day for so long.
Aleksander Barkov – Has missed Florida's last three games due to a non-COVID illness. Although he's been feeling better recently, there's no timetable for his return.
Alex Iafallo – The Kings' forward recently participated in practice while wearing a no-contact jersey. He isn't expected to be in the lineup for a while, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. Iafallo has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since October 17th.
Filip Gustavsson – Had been dealing with an upper-body injury, but it sounds like he'll be available against the Oilers on Thursday.
Akira Schmid – New Jersey's backup netminder had been dealing with an illness recently but was on the ice for Wednesday's practice. That suggests he'll be available against the Predators on Thursday.
John Marino – The Devils' defenseman is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Anton Forsberg – Has been dealing with a minor lower-body injury. He was said to be close to returning on Sunday, and Kevin Mandolese – who had been called up while Forsberg was injured – was sent back to the AHL on Monday. Both of those things suggest that Forsberg will be available against the Rangers on Wednesday.
Josh Norris – Has been skating on his own but there's no timetable for his return. This isn't a huge development as he's dealing with a shoulder injury – not a lower-body issue that would prevent him from skating. The plan is still for him to be re-evaluated in January, at which point the team hopes to have a more concrete timetable for his return.
Tony DeAngelo – Missed Wednesday's game against the Islanders due to a lower-body injury. He was labelled a game-time decision prior to being ruled out. The fact that DeAngelo wasn't ruled out well in advance suggests the injury isn't too serious. After starting the season with five points in his first four games, he's managed just five points in his last 18 appearances.
Travis Konecny – On November 22nd, the Flyers announced that Konecny would be out for 10-to-14 days because of an upper-body injury. There's still about a week left in that timetable, but it's encouraging that he's been skating recently.
Cam Atkinson – Was recently cleared for contact and has been a full participant in practice. As I write this, he hasn't yet been ruled out of Thursday's clash with Tampa Bay. Atkinson hasn't played yet this season, dealing with a mysterious injury that was initially labelled a day-to-day issue. The fact that he's now practicing and taking contact suggests he'll make his debut very soon.
Kris Letang – The Penguins' defenseman is out indefinitely after suffering a stroke on Monday. He's not feeling any lasting effects of the stroke and will continue to be monitored over the next week. Fortunately, he's feeling okay and is optimistic he'll be back on the ice soon.
James Reimer – The Sharks' netminder is dealing with a lower-body injury that's been described as more of a day-to-day issue than a week-to-week issue. He's ineligible to play against the Leafs on Wednesday because he's on Injured Reserve, but he could be available for this weekend's back-to-back against the Senators and Sabres.
Robert Thomas – Was labelled day-to-day with a lower-body injury on Monday. Thomas skated on Tuesday and practiced on Wednesday, so I expect he'll be return to the lineup against Carolina on Thursday.
Ilya Samsonov – Will start against the Sharks on Wednesday night – his first game since injuring his knee against Boston on November 5th. Samsonov sports an impressive 2.23 GAA and .921 save percentage through eight games this season.
Alex Pietrangelo – Missed Monday's clash with Columbus due to personal reasons. As I write this, his status for Thursday's game against Pittsburgh remains up in the air.
Dmitry Orlov – Last we heard; he was being evaluated in Washington while the team travelled to New Jersey for Saturday's date with the Devils. He could join the team at some point during this road trip, which extends to December 7th and includes four more games. Orlov has been sidelined with a lower-body injury since November 7th. He's been skating off and on over the past few weeks, so it's hard to project when he'll be ready to return.
