Welcome back to another edition of Lining Up. This week will highlight some players with dense or favourable schedules leading into the All-Star break, as well as a few notable and low-rostered players who are suddenly receiving excellent deployment.
Let's dive in.
Ryan Strome – Max Comtois – Trevor Zegras
This line in Anaheim is being leaned on heavily lately and they are producing. Despite not having a positive Corsi For percentage against the opposition, they have outscored opponents five goals to two at even strength. Leading the charge is Trevor Zegras who has nine points in his last five games with two of those coming on the power-play. He has a slightly high shooting percentage at the moment, but all other underlying stats indicate he is within normal ranges for production. On the season, this recent stretch has brought him up to a 70-point pace as he continues to demonstrate why he is a high-end fantasy asset. He is receiving an average of almost 20 minutes of ice time, up nearly two minutes from last season and continues to shoot at close to two and a half shots per game.
His production is dragging along his linemates as Ryan Strome is hot as well with four points in his last four games. Max Comtois has two points in two games and saw nearly four minutes of power-play time on Thursday against Columbus. He has had turns alongside Troy Terry and Zegras on the top unit, occasionally being used instead of Mason McTavish. If this deployment persists, he may be in line for increased production as the jump in power-play time is a huge increase from his season average of 38 seconds. Realistically, Comtois and Strome are typically not worth rostering except for the deepest of leagues and should be considered only as streaming options, particularly for this fantasy week.
It is worth noting that Anaheim is second last in the league in goals, ahead of only Chicago. However, a hot streak is a hot streak and Anaheim has an excellent schedule this week. They play three games all on light days as usual, but two of these are against Arizona. If you find yourself benching players on the busy nights, consider adding an Anaheim player for the favourable matchup and schedule.
Jack Roslovic and Boone Jenner have been rotating as the centre between Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine and as a member of the top power-play unit with the pair as well. This battle was forecasted prior to the start of the season and has played out mostly as anticipated, with Jenner so far receiving the majority of the time but Roslovic now beginning to cut into his deployment. It has been a somewhat perplexing situation though that the two centres are flip-flopping, given that it may behoove Columbus to provide Roslovic with a longer look and see what he can do. Regardless, both players are fighting for prime deployment and Jenner has recently made it more interesting as he has scored goals in back-to-back games after only scoring one goal and zero assists in seven games before that. Meanwhile, Roslovic has been on a decent stretch where he has produced six points in his past six games. Both players are within normal ranges for their advanced stats, but Roslovic has a very low SH% of 5.6 and so may be in line for more goals moving forward if he can maintain steady deployment on the top line.
Both players are owned in less than a third of Yahoo leagues so it may be worth monitoring how the deployment plays out tomorrow night against Edmonton and then streaming the more favourable centre in for a back-to-back on Friday and Saturday as Columbus has those three games still to come this week.
Anton Lundell has been continuing to line up alongside Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart and it is starting to pay off with six points in his last five games. Last night, Lundell also saw time on the top power-play unit with his two linemates and Matthew Tkachuk, although very briefly. Needless to say, anytime alongside Barkov and Reinhart is valuable. Although he has played the majority of his time with them at even strength, it is only slightly higher than his other most frequent linemates in Colin White and Eetu Luostarinen. The entire Barkov line was a bit snake bitten early on and without meaningful power-play deployment, Lundell's divided time between the top six and bottom six lines resulted in cold and inconsistent play. However, the underlying analytics for Lundell are due for positive regression, as seen in his 7.3 SH% 5on5 SH%, and 991 PDO. Good indicators that he is due for better puck luck now that he is seemingly playing with Barkov on a more consistent basis.
Florida still has three games remaining this week, including a back-to-back on Friday (a light day) and Saturday. Lundell is only 31% rostered so consider adding him for the two games at the end of the week as a late streaming option.
After spending the majority of his season so far with Carl Grundstrom, Blake Lizotte, Rasmus Kupari and Arthur Kaliyev, Jaret Anderson-Dolan was moved up to a line with Kevin Fiala and immediately had himself a tidy fantasy night, producing 2 G, 5 SOG and 2 Hits. This may be more of a testament to Fiala's talents; however, it could be an early indication of decent production out of Anderson-Dolan and is worth monitoring so long as he is deployed with Fiala.
JAD was solid in the AHL last season during his last waiver-exempt year, producing 47 points in 54 games including 12 of his 24 goals coming on the power-play. He has the potential to be a well-rounded asset who can produce points and contribute to peripheral categories with hits, shots and penalty minutes, especially if he continues receiving the bump in even-strength deployment here. If you are looking for a deep streaming option, Los Angeles has three games still to come this week including a nice matchup against Philadelphia tonight. Otherwise, keep an eye on the box score and add JAD to your watchlist.
