Now that we've wrapped up the All-Star Weekend festivities, it's time to get down to brass tacks and focus on the road ahead. We are about two-thirds of the way through the season. For those of you in roto leagues, there's still time to map out what categories you can make some progress in between now and the end of your season. On the flipside, people in head-to-head formats have a little less time before playoff time rolls around. If you're on the outside looking in, maybe you can find some hidden gems to help boost your team and sneak into the playoffs. Or if you are a contender, perhaps you can just find some added roster depth to bolster your lineups. Let's check out a few of those players now!

Filip Chytil

For years now, I have gazed upon the lineup of the New York Rangers in awe of all their incredible up-and-coming talent. It really seemed like an embarrassment of riches. They've had all the makings to be a dynasty-level franchise, and they are most certainly still capable of doing so. But with that being said, it's equally as surprising to see their young forwards kind of stuck in their development. I figured Alexis Lafreniere and Kaapo Kakko would be dominating by this point. Yet this year both of those players haven't really broken though as of yet.

Chytil, on the other hand, is starting to show some positive signs that his development is trending in the right direction. Perhaps it's because he is the oldest of the trio of young forwards. The 23-year-old was taken 21st overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and was one of the first key pieces in securing the next wave of talent for the Rangers. Chytil has battled through his fair share of injuries since being drafted. This season was no exception as he missed a stint of six games early on in the season.

In the 41 games he's dressed for New York, he's put up 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points. The 16 goals and 29 points are both already career highs, and he still has about a third of a season left to play. He was riding a bit of a hot streak heading into the All-Star break as he had five points in his past three contests. His career high in goals could possibly be attributed to his shot rate. He's currently shooting an average of 2.2 shots per game which is also a career high for him.  

He's been playing confident and the results are slowly coming. Coincidentally he is on a line with both of the other aforementioned young potential studs. The "kid line" has been playing well as of late, and it would be nice to see them get a bit more ice time, as they usually float around 14-15 minutes a night. Also all three of them are put on the second power-play unit as well, so there aren't a ton of power-play point opportunities.

Chytil has dual-eligibility on center and right wing. He can slot in on the wing and most nights he is good for about four or five faceoff wins if you're in a league that tracks those. He will also throw in the occasional hit, but he's not a big-time hitter by any means. Chytil is worth a speculatory add if you're looking for some scoring depth. Hopefully he can keep his hot streak going after the All-Star break. In Yahoo leagues he is 28% owned, while over on Fantrax he is owned in 44%,

Brandon Tanev

Tanev is a guy who really has been crippled with injuries over the past few years. He's already 31 and in his eighth NHL season, but some of his best years were definitely cut short due to injury. His rugged playstyle may not be doing him any favors, but that's what makes him such an intriguing fantasy pickup. Tanev is pretty much the quintessential bottom-six type of player, though he does provide some sporadic offense occasionally too.

His offense should be considered more of an afterthought, though, because where he really shines are in the peripherals. Through 49 games, Tanev has laid out 117 hits which averages out to be 2.42 per game. Additionally, he has made 50 blocked shots to boot. His play style is definitely a winning one. He ended last season with a plus-4 which is pretty impressive considering the Kraken were in their inaugural season. This season he is already a plus-23.

Tanev has also chipped in with nine goals and 15 assists. He should hover around 40 points by the end of the season if he stays healthy. I should also note he doesn't shoot a ton, with an average of 1.7 shots per game which isn't great. But like I said before, that's not really why you're getting Tanev. If you're in a roto league and need to make up some ground in the blocks or hit peripherals, Tanev could be a serviceable option. He is 20% rostered on Yahoo, while Fantrax has him listed at 31% rostered.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard

This one's a bit of a wild card to be sure. Harvey-Pinard is a 24-year-old winger who was a seventh-round draft pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent most of his time with the Laval Rocket over the past few years, but due to Cole Caufield's season being cut short, as well as some other injuries, RHP has gotten the call. And let's be honest: The tank job for Connor Bedard is officially in full force. So what better time to get some of the younger organizational talent some real NHL experience?

While it's a small sample size to go off of, Harvey-Pinard has done quite well for himself in the seven games he's played with le bleu, blanc et rouge. He's potted five goals and added an assist also. And while his 35% shooting percentage surely isn't going to stick, getting some offense early in his career will definitely help his confidence. There's also a couple other things I like about him.

Outside of his offense he has also found a way to be a contributor for fantasy. He's racked up 22 hits through his seven games which is over three hits per game. For a forward, those are some big-time numbers. He also has six blocked shots as well. If he can hover around one block per game and add three hits, that is incredible value to have. Additionally, up until this point he was pretty much strictly a bottom-six guy. But the last game before the All-Star break he saw minutes on the second line and played 18 minutes. If he can stick in the top-six of the Habs' lineup, there's some potential here to be had.

Now of course, a lot of this is circumstantial. For all we know, he could be sent down next week for the rest of the season.  But as I alluded to before, I think Montreal will be inclined to play their young players down the stretch to help them get their feet wet. Needless to say, RHP isn't owned in many formats yet, so if you have a roster spot and want to take a gamble on him, go out and get him. While his offensive output is a question mark at best, his peripheral stats alone could be worth giving him a look.
