Fantasy Impact: Tampa Bay Acquires Tanner Jeannot

The Tampa Bay Lightning traded defenseman Cal Foote, a conditional first-round pick in 2025, a second in 2024 as well as third, fourth and fifth rounders in the upcoming draft this summer – all for feisty forward Tanner Jeannot.

The Predators get: a fading prospect who has been in and out of the Tampa lineup. The Preds have had success in developing defensemen, so perhaps they can turn Foote into something. He is a former 14th overall pick. Foote's upside in fantasy hockey is 20-25 points, 150+ Hits and 120 BLKS, so in leagues that count those physical categories he could turn into something. But the Preds have a lot of work ahead of him. The big haul for Nashville, however, are all those picks. Five of them!

The Lightning get: A tenacious player for their third line, hoping to tap into the same magic that Barclay Goodrow brought when they acquired him in 2020. Jeannot is a prolific bodychecker who had 318 Hits last season and is on pace to top that this year. He will most certainly do that now, as players tend to amp up the physicality upon arriving at a new team. Jeannot is also a proven 20-goal scorer, though he is on pace for half that this season.

Fantasy Players Impacted: Look for Jeannot to slot into the third line and take Patrick Maroon's spot along side Ross Colton and Nicholas Paul. That's a big line with a ton of tenacity, with every one of those players capable of chipping in 40 points. Paul and Colton should see a bit of a boost, not just in points, but I think they'll see Jeannot throwing his body around and they'll step up their hitting as well.

Jeannot leaving the Nashville lineup helps Yakov Trenin, who plays a very similar game and has very similar upside. The uptick in ice time will help him tremendously. Potentially, Trenin is a 40-point, 250-Hits player. While Jeannot was in Nashville, Trenin's production was closer to 30 points and 180 Hits, so this should be a nice uptick.

Cody Glass is also a good power forward with less Hits potential but more points potential. He'll gobble up some more ice time and his numbers will benefit accordingly.
