Experts Panel: 2023-24 Season Predictions

2023-10-07
With the puck about to drop on the 2023-24 season, our writers weigh in on their predictions for both player and team awards and accomplishments.
Brief observations:
The Edmonton Oilers are all over both our player and team picks. From a player standpoint, Connor McDavid is the clear favorite for both the Hart Trophy and the Art Ross Trophy, while he was just edged out by Auston Matthews for the Rocket Richard Trophy. As a team, the Oilers were picked by the majority of writers to win the Pacific Division, and they were also the most popular choice to win the Stanley Cup.
To no one's surprise, another Connor (Bedard) is the heavy favorite to win the Calder Trophy. The writers also leaned toward Cale Makar for the Norris Trophy and Ilya Sorokin for the Vezina Trophy. The picks for player to rebound and disappoint really varied, yet Jonathan Huberdeau and Andrei Kuzmenko received the most votes in each category respectively.
Could this be Toronto's year… to at least make it to the Stanley Cup Final? The Leafs are the strong favorites to win the Atlantic Division, and they even received a few votes to be one of the last two teams playing this spring. Votes for the other two divisions seemed to be split among two teams, with Dallas/Colorado for the Central and New Jersey/Carolina for the Metropolitan.
