Here’s the latest injury news from across the NHL! If you’re looking for information about a certain player and don’t see their name in this article, there probably haven’t been any significant updates about their progress since our last article. If you ever need injury updates for a specific player, shoot me a message on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza.

Leo Carlsson – The second overall pick of the 2023 draft sustained an injury during practice on Friday. Carlsson lost an edge while skating and crashed into the boards, unable to put pressure on his right skate afterwards. He wasn't on the ice for Tuesday's morning skate and is currently on injured reserve, listed as day-to-day.

Casey Mittelstadt – The Sabres forward tweaked an upper-body issue on Monday and is officially day-to-day. Fortunately, it sounds like he'll be fine. Expected to practice Wednesday, Mittelstadt should be available for Thursday's season opener against the Rangers.

Jakob Pelletier – Calgary's first-round pick from 2019 suffered a shoulder injury during preseason action. He recently underwent shoulder surgery and will be sidelined long term.

Andrei Svechnikov – The Hurricanes' forward is still working his way back from a knee surgery he had back in March. He's been skating with his teammates but hasn't started taking contact just yet. Svechnikov won't be available for Tuesday's opener against the Sens, and he probably won't travel with the team on its five-game road trip out West.

Pavel Francouz – Reports indicate the Avalanche netminder hasn't fully recovered from offseason adductor surgery. He was recently placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) which carries a mandatory absence of 10 games and 24 days of action – so the earliest he can return is November 7th against the Devils. With Francouz sidelined, Colorado's goalie tandem will feature Justus Annunen and new waiver claim Ivan Prosvetov behind Alexandar Georgiev.

Roope Hintz – Practiced with the team on Monday but wasn't taking any contact. He's expected to practice again on Wednesday, likely with contact, as the team evaluates whether he's ready for Thursday's opener against the Blues. An upper-body injury has prevented Hintz from being a full participant in training camp, but he'd always been expected to start the season on time.

Wyatt Johnston – Recently underwent a non-surgical procedure for a minor upper-body injury. Johnston was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, so I expect he'll be in the lineup for game one against St. Louis on Thursday.

Mattias Ekholm – Was a full participant in team skates on Monday and Tuesday, so I expect he'll be available for Edmonton's season opener on Wednesday. The 33-year-old defenseman has been dealing with some bumps and bruises that have taken longer to heal than originally expected.

Sam Bennett – Suffered a lower-body injury during preseason action last week and won't be available for Florida's season opener on Thursday. He was seen wearing a walking boot on his left leg and is officially day-to-day. There's hope he can return as early as Saturday in Winnipeg or Monday in New Jersey.

Viktor Arvidsson – The Kings' forward is officially day-to-day with a lower-body injury. As I write this, his status for Wednesday's season opener against Colorado is listed as questionable.

Jared Spurgeon – Minnesota's captain is officially week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Erik Haula – Was on the ice for Wednesday's practice, a good sign he'll be available for Thursday's opener against Detroit. Haula had been absent for previous practices, day-to-day with a little bit of a nagging injury.

Filip Chytil – The 24-year-old center is healthy and available for Thursday's season opener against the Sabres. The Rangers took an overly cautious approach with the upper-body injury Chytil dealt with during preseason, but it sounds like that's paid off as he's feeling 100% now.

Josh Norris – According to coach DJ Smith, Norris isn't expected to go on LTIR. That could mean that the organization doesn’t anticipate Norris will be out for too long. However, it might also suggest that the team would rather monitor this situation daily than prematurely agree to sideline Norris long term, because once he goes on LTIR, he has to stay there for the mandatory 10 games and 24 days. The Sens' forward tweaked his shoulder a couple weeks ago. At first, the issue was believed to be very minor, and Norris seemed on track to start the season healthy. Although he was cleared for contact and seemed close to participating in preseason action, he ended up suffering a setback. He's skated with the team since then, but isn't expected to play in Ottawa's season opener on Wednesday. There's obviously concern here because he missed most of last season with a shoulder injury which was eventually repaired surgically.

Rasmus Ristolainen – Is currently on injured reserve with an undisclosed issue. Ristolainen has been practicing with the team recently but his status for Thursday's opener against Columbus remains up in the air as I write this.

Logan Couture – Has been skating recently but won't be available for Thursday's opener against Vegas. San Jose's captain remains week-to-week with a lower-body injury that kept him out of training camp.

Brandon Tanev – Left Tuesday's season opener against Vegas after taking a hit up high.

John Klingberg – Toronto's offensive defenseman has been practicing with the team recently and should be available on Wednesday as the Leafs kick off their campaign against the Canadiens. Klingberg had been dealing with a minor upper-body during training camp.

Matt Murray – Recently underwent bilateral hip surgery and will be sidelined for at least six to eight months.

Anthony Beauvillier – Missed Sunday's practice as he was dealing with the flu. Players don't usually miss too much action when they're sick, so Beauvillier could still be available for the season opener against Edmonton on Wednesday.

Ilya Mikheyev – Has been skating with the team and started to take more contact recently. Mikheyev is still recovering from a surgery he had back in February, to repair a torn ACL. Although he probably won't feature in Wednesday's opener against the Oilers, it sounds like he's close to a return.

Alec Martinez – The Golden Knights' defenseman is officially week-to-week with an upper-body injury. Fortunately, he isn't expected to be out long term.

Max Pacioretty – Recent reports indicate the Capitals' forward hasn't been skating recently. He'll start the season on LTIR, which means he's guaranteed to miss the team's first 10 games/24 days of action. He'll probably be sidelined even longer as early projections don't have him back until November/December. Pacioretty is nursing a twice-torn Achilles tendon – torn once in August 2022 and once in January 2023.

Nikolaj Ehlers – During training camp, Ehlers had been dealing with a neck injury, which included, but wasn't limited to, neck spasms. Fortunately, he says he's ready for Wednesday's season opener against the Flames.
