Here’s the latest injury news from across the NHL! If you’re looking for information about a certain player and don’t see their name in this article, there probably haven’t been any significant updates about their progress since our last article. If you ever need injury updates for a specific player, shoot me a message on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza.

Leo Carlsson – The second overall pick of the 2023 draft was on the ice for Tuesday's practice. He revealed that the goal is to play against Dallas on Thursday. Carlsson's been sidelined with a leg injury, suffered during practice when he lost an edge and crashed into the boards hip-first. He was unable to move his leg up and down afterwards, but fortunately seems to be better now.

Sebastian Aho – Missed Tuesday's tilt with the Sharks due to an upper-body injury. Reports indicate Aho sustained the injury at the end of Sunday's dance with the Ducks. It doesn't seem serious, but it sounds like the team is erring on the side of caution here, not letting Aho play if he's not at 100%. He's currently being evaluated.

Frederik Andersen – Was taken out of Tuesday's game against San Jose after taking a shot to the front (cage) of his mask. Teams tend to be careful with head injuries, and it sounds like Andersen was pulled mostly for precautionary reasons. Antti Raanta ended up playing most of the game, stopping 12 of the 14 shots he faced.

Andrei Svechnikov – The Hurricanes' forward is still working his way back from a knee surgery he had back in March. Last we heard, Svechnikov was skating with his teammates but hadn't started taking contact. We know he's not with the team on its west-coast road trip, which means he won't be available in Seattle on Thursday, or Colorado on Saturday. The team will return home before heading back out to face the Lightning on Tuesday. I imagine we'll get an update on Svechnikov at some point before they leave for Tampa.

Zach Werenski – Was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, so there's hope he'll be available for Friday's clash with Calgary. The Blue Jackets' defenseman suffered a quad contusion following a knee-on-knee hit during a game on October 12th. The initial recovery timeline was one to two weeks, so a return in the next few days isn't far-fetched.

Sam Bennett – Suffered a lower-body injury during preseason action and was seen wearing a walking boot on his left leg. Coach Paul Maurice said Bennett is still day-to-day and won't be available for Thursday's tilt with Toronto. The hope is that Bennett will be available before the team heads out on its next road trip on October 30th.

Viktor Arvidsson – Was recently placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) with a lower-body injury. Players are required to miss 10 games and 24 days of action after being placed on LTIR, which means Arvidsson isn't eligible to return until after November 4th.

Jared Spurgeon – On October 6th, we learned Spurgeon was week-to-week with an upper-body injury, suffered during a preseason clash with Chicago. Our latest update on Minnesota's captain came October 13th, when coach Dean Evason revealed Spurgeon wasn't close to skating but was working out in the gym, still labelled week-to-week. He was on the ice though this morning, but his timeline is still unclear.

Matt Boldy – On Monday, the Wild announced that Boldy was out week-to-week because of an upper-body injury. GM Bill Guerin doesn't expect to place the 22-year-old forward on LTIR, which suggests Boldy is expected to miss fewer than 10 games/24 days of action.

Kirby Dach – The 22-year-old forward will miss the rest of the season as he undergoes surgery to repair tears in the ACL and MCL of his right knee. It's a tough break for Dach, who looked strong in Montreal's season opener, tallying two points. Dach's an underrated piece of the Canadiens' offense. His absence will place an even heavier load on young stars Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.

Kaiden Guhle – The young blueliner suffered an upper-body injury during Tuesday's match with Minnesota. He's currently being evaluated, so the team should have a more substantial update in the coming days.

Luke Schenn – Nashville's blueliner will be sidelined for four to six weeks because of a lower-body injury.

Erik Haula –  Missed Tuesday's practice and is reportedly dealing with an upper-body injury. It's worth noting that Haula was dealing with a nagging injury during training camp. Although he's suited up for all of New Jersey's regular season games so far, it's not a stretch to think this current injury is related to whatever bothered him in the preseason.

Josh Norris – The Sens' forward will make his season debut on Wednesday against Washington. To recap, Norris tweaked his shoulder a few weeks ago. At first, the issue was believed to be very minor, and Norris seemed on track to start the season healthy. Although he was cleared for contact and seemed close to participating in preseason action, he ended up suffering a setback, which delayed his debut until now. It's an important situation to monitor because Norris missed most of last season with a shoulder injury which was eventually repaired surgically.

Rasmus Ristolainen – We haven't heard much about Ristolainen recently, which is strange, because he seemed close to ready for Philly's season opener, and a whole week has passed since then. He's dealing with a minor injury and has been kept out to avoid it turning into a longer-term issue. He was on the ice for Wednesday's practice, which suggests he should be back relatively soon.

Logan Couture – Recently started skating again after suffering a setback last week. Reports indicate he felt good after this skate, so now the team will monitor how he responds over the next few days. San Jose's captain has been out week-to-week with a lower-body injury that's kept him out since training camp.

Brandon Tanev – The Kraken forward will be sidelined with a lower-body injury for the next four-to-six weeks.

Pavel BuchnevichHasn't been practicing recently and isn't expected to play against the Coyotes on Thursday. Buchnevich is officially day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He's dealing with some soreness, and it's hard to put a concrete timeline on when that soreness will go away. It's one of those situations that the team will have to monitor every day, and when he's feeling better, they'll work him back into the lineup.

Steven Stamkos Tampa Bay's captain remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury. He's missed the team's last two games and hasn't been practicing recently, so it's hard to say a return is imminent.

Ilya Mikheyev – Was a full participant in Monday's practice. Reports indicate a good chance he plays at some point during Vancouver's current road trip, setting up a return in one of the team's next three games. Mikheyev is working his way back from a procedure to repair a torn ACL, which he had back in February.

Alex PietrangeloHasn't skated with the team since taking a puck to the head during Thursday's game against the Sharks. He's officially day-to-day but teams tend to exercise extra caution when dealing with head injuries. It's one of those situations where he'll need to be monitored frequently. They'll have to ensure he's symptom free for a consistent period before thinking about getting him back into game action.

Alec MartinezSkated with his teammates on Tuesday but wasn't taking any contact. He'll travel with the team to Winnipeg on Thursday and Chicago on Saturday, which suggests he's close to a return. The Golden Knights' defenseman had been labelled week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

Gabriel VilardiDuring Tuesday's clash with the Kings, Vilardi took a hit and fell awkwardly, appearing to twist his knee. He didn't put any weight on his leg as he left the ice, so there's concern this could be a serious injury. He's currently being evaluated, so we should hear more about his status in the coming days.

Situations to Monitor

Red Wings' Defenseman – Coach Derek Lalonde said a couple of the team's blueliners are currently 'nicked up'. All will take warmups ahead of Wednesday's game against the Penguins before decisions are made on who sits out. Shayne Gostisbehere didn't take part in morning skate, so he may be one of the players dealing with something.

Washington Capitals – Coach Spencer Carbery said the team is currently working through some ailments, so the lineup for Wednesday's battle with Ottawa hasn't been confirmed yet. We're not sure who might be affected, but be sure to check lineups closer to puck drop before you set your fantasy roster tonight.
