Here’s the latest injury news from across the NHL! If you’re looking for information about a certain player and don’t see their name in this article, there probably haven’t been any significant updates about their progress since our last article. If you ever need injury updates for a specific player, shoot me a message on Twitter @BrennanDeSouza.

Leo Carlsson – The second overall pick of the 2023 draft missed Tuesday's game against the Ducks, but it wasn't due to injury. As part of a strength and development program, Carlsson will be limited to two games a week for the first two months of the campaign. The hope is that such a strategy helps the 18-year-old forward adjust to the league, so he can have more of an impact later in the season.

Jamie Drysdale – The Ducks' defender is officially day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Although he was recently placed on injured reserve (IR), that transaction was retroactive to October 15th. In other words, Drysdale has already been through the week-long absence that's mandatory when one is placed on IR.

Jason Zucker – The Coyotes' forward is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury. Zucker has been playing a smaller role this season than he's played in recent years, skating just 13 minutes a night.

Devon Levi – The rookie netminder is dealing with a nagging lower-body injury. It's believed to be a short-term issue, but the team is taking a cautious approach so that this doesn't affect him down the road. Levi possesses a 3.26 GAA and .890 save percentage through four appearances this season. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (1) and Eric Comrie (2) have both seen games in Levi's absence, with Comrie having the best numbers of the three so far.

Jack Quinn – Quinn recently took an encouraging early step in his recovery from offseason surgery, taking part in some light skating. In late June, the young forward underwent a procedure to repair a torn Achilles tendon, which came with a recovery timeline of six months. That sets the stage for a return near the end of December.

Adam Ruzicka – Left Tuesday's game against the Rangers after he was hit into the boards, forcing his arm into an awkward angle. There was no update on Ruzicka's status after the game, but expect more information in the coming days. The 24-year-old forward got off to a strong start this season, posting four points in his first four appearances.

Brett Pesce – The Hurricanes' defenseman is dealing with a lower-body injury. Although it isn't considered to be a long-term issue, Pesce hasn't been skating recently, so there's no concrete timetable for his return.

Andrei Svechnikov – Monday marked the first time that Svechnikov was free to take contact in practice since he underwent knee surgery in March. It sounds like he's just a few practices away from game action, so it's possible he returns before the end of the month.

Taylor Hall – The Blackhawks' forward is out week-to-week with a shoulder injury. Hall sustained the injury in his second contest of the season and returned after missing just one game. He played three more before re-aggravating his shoulder on Saturday against Vegas. I imagine the team will be more cautious with the recovery process this time around, especially considering the fanbase isn't expecting to make the playoffs this year. With Hall sidelined, it looks like Nick Foligno and Tyler Johnson are skating on the top line with Connor Bedard, although I'm not sure how long that'll last.

Gabriel Landeskog – Heading into the season, we knew that Colorado's captain was expected to miss the entire 2023-24 campaign after undergoing a knee cartilage transplant back in May. No NHL player has tried to return from a surgery like this, so there's a great deal of uncertainty surrounding the recovery process. Lots is up in the air right now, and an eventual return will depend on how Landeskog responds over these next few months, but the team is optimistic he can return for the playoffs.

Pavel Francouz – Although official word is that Colorado's backup netminder is sidelined indefinitely, coach Jared Bednar didn't rule out the possibility that Francouz could be out for the season. As we discussed previously, reports suggest Francouz hasn’t fully recovered from offseason adductor surgery. Currently on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), he isn't eligible to return until November 7th (at the earliest).

Patrik LaineThe Blue Jackets forward is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, sustained after a late hit during last week's clash with Calgary. Laine was recently placed on injured reserve, retroactive to October 20th. Since being on IR requires a week-long absence, I don't think he's eligible to play against the Canadiens on Thursday. Although, I imagine he probably won't even be 100% healthy by then.

Jeff Petry – Detroit's defender is currently day-to-day with an upper-body injury. As I write this, his status for Thursday's game against Winnipeg remains up in the air.

Connor McDavid – On October 22nd, we learned that the superstar forward would be sidelined for a week or two because of an upper-body injury. In McDavid's absence, it looks like Mattias Janmark is skating on the top line with Leon Draisaitl and Evander Kane. Speaking of Kane, it looks like he's been elevated to the team's top power-play while McDavid's sidelined.

Aleksander Barkov – Missed Tuesday's game against the Sharks because he was sick. The Panthers have a few days off before they play next (on Saturday), so don't expect Barkov to miss much more action as a result of this illness.

Sam Bennett – Has been skating on his own and there's hope he'll be able to participate in Thursday's practice. If all goes well, Bennett could be available for the team's next game, scheduled on Saturday against Seattle. Bennett suffered a lower-body injury during preseason action and has been sidelined ever since, initially seen wearing a walking boot on his left leg.

Viktor Arvidsson – We recently learned that the Kings' forward may need back surgery, which would keep him sidelined for months. Arvidsson had been placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), which comes with a mandatory absence of 10 games and 24 days. Although he's technically eligible to return from that stint on November 4th, it sounds like he'll likely be out for much longer.

Jared Spurgeon – Minnesota's captain has been skating on his own, but there's no timeline for his return to practice and he remains week-to-week. On October 6th, we learned Spurgeon would be sidelined week-to-week with an upper-body injury, which he suffered during a preseason clash with Chicago.

Matt Boldy – The young [and] Wild forward has been skating recently. Boldy is travelling with the team, so there's hope he'll be available at some point during Minnesota's current road trip, which includes three games from October 26th to 29th. Last Monday, the Wild announced that Boldy was out week-to-week because of an upper-body injury.

David SavardWill be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks because of a fracture in his left hand. The veteran defenseman brought a sense of stability to Montreal's young blueline. His absence will certainly make life a little more difficult for the team's netminders.

Kaiden Guhle – Has been skating recently but remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Artem Zub – Was labelled day-to-day after he took a puck to the side of the head during last week's game against Washington. Although he's feeling better, he hasn't been skating recently so it's hard to say a return is imminent. Recovering from a head injury tends to be an unpredictable process where symptoms can change wildly with each day. That's why it's hard to put a concrete timetable on Zub's return right now.

Rasmus Ristolainen – Recently suffered a setback in his recovery from an undisclosed injury and his status is currently up in the air. It seems like Ristolainen was perpetually on the verge of returning from this initially 'minor' issue. We're now two weeks into the season, and he still hasn't played a game, so there's definitely some cause for concern.

Alexander Barabanov – Left Tuesday's clash with the Panthers, but there was no update on his status after the game.

Logan Couture – Continues to skate, but since he isn't travelling with the team, Couture isn't expected to play for the rest of this road trip – which includes three more games. I expect we'll get another update on his status when the Sharks return home to host the Canucks on November 2nd. San Jose's captain has been out week-to-week with a lower-body injury that's kept him out since training camp.

Andre BurakovskyThe Kraken forward will be sidelined for the next six-to-eight weeks because of an upper-body injury. It's a tough break for Burakovsky, who missed significant time last season due to a groin injury. He's quietly scored around a 65-point pace in each of his last four campaigns.

Andrei VasilevskiyTampa's top netminder is still on track to return at the end of November. As you probably know, shortly before the season began, Vasilevskiy underwent surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.

Nicolas RoySustained an undisclosed injury during Tuesday's clash with Philly. Reports indicate Roy was feeling some soreness after the game, but was able to walk around. He'll be re-evaluated on Wednesday.

Alex Pietrangelo – Was wearing a normal jersey during Tuesday's morning skate, shedding the no-contact sweater he'd been wearing during previous practices. It's worth mentioning that morning skates usually aren't as intense as dedicated practices, so although this is an encouraging sign, it doesn't necessarily mean Pietrangelo's return is imminent. He's been sidelined since taking a puck to the head during a game against the Sharks on October 12th.

Gabriel VilardiThe Jets' forward will be sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks as he recovers from a sprained MCL. It's a tough break for Vilardi, who was looking to build on the 53-point pace he posted with the Kings last season.
