Looking Ahead: Vilardi’s Production; Marchment’s Upside; Toronto’s Homestand

Welcome back all! Decent week of hockey thus far with some more good matchups to carry us right into the weekend. Ah yes, the weekend…we're almost there everyone. Let's get everyone in a good spot for fantasy before the weekend starts, as well as going into next week's matchups.
The Immediate Fix (Grab this guy and use him for the next several days)
Gabriel Vilardi, C/RW, Winnipeg Jets (Rostered in 48% of ESPN leagues, 69% Fantrax, 34% Yahoo) – If you're like me and play an unhealthy amount of Winnipeg in DFS, then you already have Gabe Vilardi on your radar. For those that might not be as familiar, Vilardi could be a player to put you in a good spot moving forward.
So, what do we have off the bat here? Vilardi is skating on the top line for Winnipeg and that line has been Winnipeg's best as far as goals-for in their last three games, with things looking to improve here in the short-term just by taking a glance at the Jets upcoming schedule. They'll be on the road against Chicago, and then on the road against Arizona who has lost their last 11 games in a row. With softer matchups coming, Vilardi could be in line for good production to close out the week.
At this point in the season, an Immediate Fix might become a longer-term addition and for a player like Vilardi I think that's alright as he's been very productive as of late. He has eight points in his last three games, as well as three straight multi-point games in a row. The roster numbers are around 50/50 on some fantasy sites, and if he's available then he's well worth the add. He is also multi-position eligible on some sites as well which only helps when filling out your roster.
The Building Block (Buy now, sit back and enjoy the production)
Mason Marchment, LW, Dallas Stars (Rostered in 30% of ESPN leagues, 64% Fantrax, 56% Yahoo) – I'm admittedly late to the party when it comes to rostering Dallas in fantasy or playing them in DFS, but I'm putting some chips in the middle on some of the Dallas top six here moving forward, starting with Mason Marchment.
Marchment has been good for the Stars this season but might not be a player on some fantasy roster but in larger leagues I can see him being on a roster already. If not though, here's a player to keep an eye on as he is now skating on the Dallas top line which is an excellent position to be in as we head into March. In the shorter term here as well, he'll get plenty run as the Stars will play five games in eight days starting next week.
If this is an addition that's not available in your league, I can see how that's a possibility but if he is available, you could make this add now and could be a player that you potentially roster on and off throughout the rest of the fantasy season. For DFS, like I said I am very late when it comes to the Dallas Stars party but I'm not going to be one to say fade the Stars' top line on a given slate. Stack away, friends.
The Odd Man Out (His short-term value is cause for concern)
Drake Batherson, RW, Ottawa Senators (Rostered in 68% of ESPN leagues, 64% Fantrax, 56% Yahoo) – I drafted Drake Batherson earlier than the ADP for him in my main league but soon found myself looking to trade him before ultimately dropping him back in early November. Maybe you don't have to outright drop him, but he is our Odd-Man out this week.
So why an Odd-Man Out for our guy Drizzy Drake? First answer to that question is yes, our league chat has referred to him at times as Drizzy Drake, so there you go. The second is that he just hasn't found a consistent spot on this Senators top-six or powerplay. Right now, he's skating along the Ottawa third line and is being deployed on the second power play and the ice time reflects it. Batherson only skated 15:05 in the Senators game against Florida, and 13:42 prior to that against Tampa. Point blank here, it's difficult to be productive receiving bottom six minutes
Like I mentioned, I don't think that dropping Batherson is necessarily the answer here because at times he can still have a game here or there where he gets the puck on his stick often, and he also helps brings hits and blocked shots to your lineup. This is a classic case that if you're between him and another player to start at RW, Batherson might be the one that sits.
The Anchors (They’ll do nothing but disappoint even over the long haul)
Ivan Provorov, D, Philadelphia Flyers (Rostered in 72% of ESPN leagues, 48%, Fantrax, 12% Yahoo) – I had a three-season run of rostering Ivan Provorov but haven't in a couple seasons now and just looking at the roster numbers and the production, he earns Anchor this week.
Look I get it, most leagues out there have pretty dry waivers when it comes to defensemen so if your league is like that and you have Provorov on your roster I don't blame you at all for holding onto him. He has just one point in his last 12 games and is om the Columbus second power play…which to be fair, power play in Columbus doesn't really matter much for fantasy.
Need blocks? Well, he's still valuable in that regard looking to match his total of 162 last season, currently sitting at 101, but if that's the case then you could head over to waivers and find someone who stands in front of vulcanized rubber often. For DFS I usually don't spend up for defensemen and have rostered Provorov here or there but it's all for what we just went over and that's blocked shots.
Love ‘Em (These squads are sure to pay dividends in the coming days)
This period runs through February23rd– March 6th
Edmonton – I think Edmonton is sort of always a Love 'Em but they're now a Love 'Em with a nice homestand coming with games against Minnesota, Calgary, Los Angeles, and St. Louis.
Florida – This Florida club might be my favorite watch lately and things might be looking up here in the short term as Florida will be in action plenty upcoming. They'll have games in Detroit, then New York/New Jersey, but they will remain on their home time zone throughout.
Toronto – Another nice homestand here, the Leafs will hit a stretch upcoming with Arizona, NY Rangers, Boston, and Buffalo. We love games played, and we love a homestand.
Leave ‘Em (These squads will leave fantasy owners sorely disappointed in the short term)
Calgary – Only two games on the schedule next week have the Flames and their trade rumors as a Leave 'Em for now.
NY Rangers – Another club with a light schedule next week. They'll see Columbus, which is great for fantasy leagues and points pools, but have a tougher matchup against the Leafs on the road.
Chicago – Has anyone but me watched this Hawks club lately? At least they're at home next week…this club has lost 21 games straight on the road.
