Fantasy Take: Arvidsson Signs With Edmonton

The Edmonton Oilers have signed winger Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year contract worth $4 million.

The Oilers receive: Arvidsson, a scoring winger with decent upside who has battled his share of injuries as a Band-Aid Boy. Arvidsson was held to just 18 games in 2023-24 due to two separate injuries (back/lower-body), but he still registered 15 points. If the injuries are still an issue, Edmonton is hedging its investment by signing him to only two years.

Arvidsson should at least fill the slot vacated by Warren Foegele, who has signed with Los Angeles (Arvidsson's old team!) Arvidsson generally did not see top-line minutes with the Kings, generally filling a spot alongside Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore. Despite that, he still managed to score at a 60-70-point pace. But you still have to factor in the injuries.

Arvidsson should fit in somewhere in the Oilers' top six, or he has proven he can play down in the lineup to give his team more scoring depth. Leon Draisaitl's line makes the most sense, since Foegele played regular minutes with Draisaitl in 2023-24. Since Arvidsson didn't have a center with Draisaitl's level of scoring in LA, he should receive an increase in fantasy value by signing in Edmonton. Moving to Draisaitl's line helped Foegele, so maybe it does the same for Arvidsson. But did we mention that he needs to stay healthy?

Arvidsson should be able to score plenty of even-strength points. However, the Oilers are already set with their top power play, so he'll probably have to settle for the second unit. That's something that could cut into his value a bit.
