DFS Tuesday: Paying For Edmonton; Dallas’s Stars; Roman Josi; Goaltending Options

Hello and welcome to DFS Tuesday! We had our first DFS Thursday here last week and if you followed along that lineup actually did okay…which is shocking considering we were relying on Islanders and Blues to carry us. We have an interesting nine gamer here today with one very obvious smash spot…

Slate Preview:

San Jose vs Dallas

Okay so there are two ways to get at this game here. We can either be one with the chalk or a fade here looking for an alternate path to cash tonight. On a nine-game slate like tonight, there's usually more than one route here but tonight has a lot funky matchups with a limited sample size to go off of given just how early it is in the season. Still, this is maybe the worst team in the league in San Jose going into Dallas who may very well be the best team in the league.

On a slate like this, one way to get unique in tournaments with Dallas in an excellent spot would be to go all in on a power play stack which if you did that and add Miro Hesikanen comes out to $26,900. Add Jake Oettinger to that for the potential shutout and you're up to $35,400. That's steep but there are cheap stacks out there tonight to go along with Dallas if that's your plan of attack. For me though, one idea that comes to mind is if Dallas comes out of the gate with three goals off the bat, there might be more minutes to be had for the bottom lines, and one I'm looking at is maybe a two-man stack of Mason Marchment ($4,300) and Matt Duchene (ditto $4,300). They're going to play together on the PP and that line has been active with a 3.59 goals for per 60 minutes, and although that is with Tyler Seguin on that line, I don't think that replacing him with Mavrik Bourne or Collin Blackwell is the end of the world here.

On the San Jose side…as crazy as this sounds, in the three prior games with these two clubs last season the results were, 6-3, 7-6 (OT), and 3-2 (SO)…someone in theory has to score for San Jose, right? Their top line is fully correlated and coming in at $13,900, sort of pricey for San Jose but it could be a way to get unique. I'm not saying it's a good idea, but at the same time, not saying it's a horrible one either.

Chicago vs Calgary –

I don't know what to make of these two clubs records so far, or their recent games (both vs Edmonton), but I do know that the Taylor Hall – Phillip Kurashev – Tyler Bertuzzi line, has been giving up chances left and right. The problem here though with stacking Calgary is none of their lines have much power play correlation so it might just be a case of taking one-offs. Nazem Kadri at $6,900 might be in play, and don't hate if you want to get down to a cheaper option like Connor Zary ($3,300) or Anthony Mantha ($2,800). For me, I'll take something off the Flames blueline if I go anywhere in this game, which we'll get to in a minute here.

Flyers vs Edmonton –

The dam has to break eventually, right? …Right? Is this the night though at home going up against Philadelphia who is not a bad defensive team at all. Look, if you want to go full on Edmonton top line, or some sort of power play stack, I'm never going to sway you against that. For tonight though, you can grab the Philadelphia top line coming in together at $14,600, and fit it with a lot of different options. I can see Morgan Frost ($4K), being a popular option tonight, but in 20max tournaments or even 3max, I don't hate the Philadelphia side in this game.

Defensemen:

Roman Josi leads the charge here, as he will most nights, at $7,600. Not sure I'm looking to spend up on a larger slate, and looking more in the $4,500k range tonight. Thomas Harley at that price, Cam York at $4,400, and the block bot himself Mario Ferraro at $4,200. Going down even further, with Jared Spurgeon out tonight, I like Jake Middleton at $3k.

Goalies:

If you want to pay up for Jake Oettinger at $8,500 you can, but that means he almost has to get the shutout at that price. If you have the salary and want to pair him with someone on the Dallas blueline is one thing, but that's a steep price for today. I don't mind going to Andrei Vasilveskiy at $7,800 going up against Vancouver or my guy Joey Daccord on the road in Nashville at $7,300. If you want the late slate to get electric and throw in Sam Ersson at $7k against Edmonton you may be a braver man than me.
