FPPG: 7.8

TOI/GP: 19:20

CF%: 55.6

Analysis:

Pettersson, a cornerstone for the Canucks, is widely rostered and started in fantasy leagues. Despite his elite skill set, he has recorded only five points in 12 games, which is below expectations for a player of his caliber. His high CF% of 55.6 indicates strong puck possession and offensive zone time when he's on the ice. The significant number of trades (61) suggests that managers are either capitalizing on his name value or addressing other roster needs due to his slow start

Recommendation:

Hold or Trade For. Pettersson's underlying metrics suggest a breakout is imminent. If you're a current owner, be patient. If you're looking to acquire him, this could be an opportune time to negotiate a trade before his production spikes.

CF%: 57.3

Analysis:

Robertson continues to be a reliable offensive force for the Stars. With seven points in 12 games, he maintains a solid FPPG of 9.05. His high CF% demonstrates that the Stars control play when he's on the ice, leading to more scoring opportunities. The 41 trades involving Robertson indicate that some managers may be leveraging his consistent performance to address other needs. However, his role as a top-line winger and power-play contributor makes him a valuable asset.

Recommendation:

Hold. Robertson's steady production and favorable team context make him a must-keep. Only consider trading him if you're receiving a substantial upgrade in return.

3. Zach Hyman (EDM – LW, RW)

TOI/GP: 19:20

CF%: 62.01

Analysis:

Hyman's significant ice time and high CF% indicate he's heavily involved in the Oilers' offense. Despite this, his point production has been underwhelming with only five points in 14 games. The nearly equal number of drops and adds reflects fantasy managers' mixed feelings about his performance. Playing alongside superstars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, Hyman has ample opportunity to rack up points. His high shot volume and dual-wing eligibility add to his fantasy appeal.

Recommendation:

Buy Low. Hyman's underlying metrics suggest he's due for a surge in production. Consider trading for him before he begins converting his opportunities into points.

4. Steven Stamkos (NSH – C, LW)

TOI/GP: 18:39

CF%: 62.5

Analysis:

Stamkos, now centering for the Predators, is off to a slower start with seven points in 14 games. Despite the modest point total, his CF% of 62.5 is exceptional, indicating strong puck possession and offensive opportunities when he's on the ice. His high TOI/GP shows that he's a crucial part of Nashville's lineup. The high number of drops may reflect impatience from fantasy managers expecting his usual high-level production. However, his track record suggests that he's capable of turning things around as he adjusts to his new team.

Recommendation:

Hold or Trade For. Stamkos's underlying metrics point toward a potential upswing in production. If you're an owner, it's advisable to remain patient. If you're looking to bolster your offense, consider trading for him while his value may be temporarily diminished.

5. J.T. Miller (VAN – C, RW)

TOI/GP: 19:10

CF%: 60.7

Analysis:

Miller is off to a strong start, leading the Canucks with 11 points in 12 games. His high FPPG and significant ice time make him a valuable fantasy asset. The 29 trades suggest managers are capitalizing on his high value, either by trading him for a hefty return or acquiring him to bolster their lineup. His versatility in playing both center and right wing adds roster flexibility. Miller's contributions across multiple categories, including hits and power-play points, enhance his appeal.

Recommendation:

Hold. Unless you're receiving an offer that significantly upgrades your team, it's wise to keep Miller. His consistent production is a reliable foundation for your roster.

Top 5 Most Added Players

TOI/GP: 19:38

CF%: 55.4

Analysis:

Orlov has quickly become a key contributor on the Hurricanes' blue line. His offensive output, with eight points in 12 games, has caught the attention of fantasy managers, leading to a surge in adds. His high CF% indicates that he's effective in driving play and generating scoring opportunities. Orlov's role on a strong Carolina team enhances his plus-minus value. Additionally, his willingness to shoot and deliver hits makes him valuable in multiple categories.

Recommendation:

Add. Orlov is a strong pickup for bolstering your defensive corps, especially in leagues that reward offensive statistics from defensemen.

2. Nino Niederreiter (WPG – LW, RW)

TOI/GP: 14:45

CF%: 54.6

Analysis:

Niederreiter is on a hot streak, producing nearly a point per game while contributing significantly in hits. Despite averaging fewer than 15 minutes of ice time, he's making the most of his opportunities. His dual eligibility at left and right wing increases his versatility for fantasy lineups. Playing for the high-flying Jets, who boast a strong goal differential, Niederreiter is benefiting from a potent offense. His substantial increase in adds reflects growing confidence among fantasy managers.

Recommendation:

Add Immediately. Niederreiter's scoring touch and peripheral contributions make him a valuable asset. Act quickly before he's no longer available.

3. Noah Hanifin (VGK – D)

TOI/GP: 21:22

CF%: 45.68

Analysis:

Now with the Golden Knights, Hanifin is contributing solid offensive numbers from the blue line with eight points in 13 games. His substantial TOI/GP of over 21 minutes indicates he's a key part of the defensive unit. While his CF% of 45.68 is lower than ideal, possibly indicating that the team is outshot when he's on the ice, Vegas' overall strong performance mitigates this concern. The high number of adds suggests that fantasy managers recognize his value, especially given his contributions in goals and assists from a defenseman.

Recommendation:

Add or Hold. Hanifin is a valuable asset for fantasy teams needing defensive scoring. His role on a successful team like Vegas enhances his potential for continued production. If he's available in your league, consider adding him.

4. Rickard Rakell (PIT – C, RW)

Analysis:

Rakell has been a bright spot for the Penguins, providing consistent offense with 11 points in 15 games. His high CF% indicates strong puck possession, and his contributions in shots and hits make him valuable in multiple categories. With dual eligibility at center and right wing, Rakell offers flexibility for fantasy lineups. His recent surge in adds reflects growing recognition of his contributions.

Recommendation:

Add. Rakell is a solid option for bolstering your forward group. His multi-category production can help across various scoring formats.

5. Colton Parayko (STL – D)

% Rostered: 51

FPPG: 11.47

TOI/GP: 24:13

CF%: 41.7

Analysis:

Parayko is shouldering a heavy workload for the Blues, averaging over 24 minutes per game. His offensive contributions are notable, especially for a defenseman. However, his low CF% suggests the Blues are frequently outshot during his shifts, potentially affecting his plus-minus. Despite this, Parayko's involvement in all situations, including power play and penalty kill, provides ample opportunities to accumulate stats. His recent uptick in adds indicates that managers are seeking his services.

Recommendation:

Add. Parayko is a valuable asset in leagues that reward defensive statistics and time on ice. His offensive upside and physical play make him a strong addition.

Top 5 Most Dropped Players

1. Pavel Dorofeyev (VGK – LW)

% Rostered: 24

P: 10

SOG: 37

Hits: 6

FPPG: 9.85

TOI/GP: 15:31

CF%: 51.43

Analysis:

Despite a respectable 10 points in 13 games, Dorofeyev has seen a significant drop in ownership. His low started percentage indicates that managers lack confidence in deploying him regularly. Factors contributing to his drop include inconsistent ice time, fluctuating role within the Golden Knights' lineup, and the emergence of other scoring options on the team.

Recommendation:

Drop in Standard Leagues. Unless you're in a deep league or have bench space to spare, it's reasonable to move on from Dorofeyev in favor of a more consistent performer.

2. Jeff Skinner (EDM – LW)

% Rostered: 57

% Started: 17

A: 3

P: 6

SOG: 43

Hits: 9

FPPG: 7.79

TOI/GP: 14:34

CF%: 54.04

Analysis:

Skinner, now playing for the Oilers, has shown moderate production with six points in 14 games. His high shot volume of 43 SOG indicates he's actively involved offensively, but his shooting percentage may be lower than his career average. A CF% of 54.04 suggests that the Oilers maintain puck possession when he's on the ice, which is a positive sign for future production. However, his reduced ice time of approximately 14.5 minutes per game may limit his opportunities to contribute. The significant number of drops reflects fantasy managers' frustration with his inconsistent output.

Recommendation:

Hold if Possible; Monitor Closely. If you have the roster space, consider holding onto Skinner due to his high shot volume and potential for increased production. Keep an eye on his ice time and role within the team. If his situation doesn't improve, be prepared to explore other options.

3. Gustav Nyquist (NSH – LW)

% Rostered: 24

% Started: 17

A: 3

P: 7

SOG: 15

Hits: 6

FPPG: 5.83

TOI/GP: 17:04

CF%: 57.0

Analysis:

Despite a strong CF%, Nyquist hasn't produced enough offensively to warrant a roster spot in most leagues. His low shot totals limit his fantasy ceiling, and the Predators' offensive struggles reduce his potential for assists and goals.

Recommendation:

Drop. Better options are likely available on the waiver wire. Monitor his performance in case he turns things around, but for now, it's advisable to move on.

4. Viktor Arvidsson (EDM – LW, RW)

% Rostered: 26

% Started: 8

Drops: 936

Trades: 2

Total Adds and Drops: 951

A: 3

P: 4

SOG: 34

Hits: 6

FPPG: 5.89

TOI/GP: 15:56

CF%: 61.33

Analysis:

Arvidsson, now with the Oilers, has had a slow start, registering only four points in 14 games. Despite a high CF% of 61.33, indicating strong puck possession, he hasn't been able to translate opportunities into points. His shot volume remains solid at 34 SOG, suggesting that a scoring uptick could be on the horizon if he improves his shooting accuracy. The significant number of drops shows that many fantasy managers are moving on from Arvidsson due to his lack of production.

Recommendation:

Drop but Monitor. It's reasonable to drop Arvidsson in favor of a more productive player. However, keep an eye on his performance, as a player with his offensive capabilities could rebound, especially on a team with high offensive potential like Edmonton.

5. Ryan Donato (CHI – C, LW, RW)

% Rostered: 18

% Started: 14

Drops: 802

Adds: 368

Trades: 2

Total Adds and Drops: 1,172

Current Stats:

GP: 13

G: 7

A: 3

P: 10

SOG: 33

Hits: 30

FPPG: 10.2

TOI/GP: 13:34

CF%: 48.0

Analysis:

Donato has been a surprise goal scorer, but his limited ice time and low CF% are concerns. The Blackhawks' overall struggles limit his upside, and his high number of hits may not be enough to justify a roster spot.

Recommendation:

Drop in Shallow Leagues; Hold in Deep Leagues. In standard formats, there are likely better options. In deeper leagues, his goal scoring and physical play may still provide value.

Conclusion

Navigating the ever-changing landscape of fantasy hockey requires staying informed and making strategic decisions based on both statistics and trends. By understanding why players are being traded, added, or dropped, you can make moves that strengthen your roster and keep you competitive.

How FPPG is Calculated:

Fantasy Points per Game (FPPG) is calculated by assigning point values to specific in-game actions:

                •             Goals: 6 points

                •             Total Assists: 4 points

                •             Shots on Goal and Shots Blocked: 1.6 points each

                •             Hits: 0.6 points

FPPG is then averaged over the number of games played to reflect each player's average contribution to a fantasy lineup per game.
