DFS Thursday: Blues In Favorable Spot; Cheap Calgary Options; Samsonov On The Road

Good day, all! How'd everyone do last night? Last night yours truly put out a Nashville/Los Angeles single entry and felt great about it. Shocker: It didn't cash. Not even close. Oh well though, there's always another slate!
I've been sitting at my desk now at work for about 20-30 minutes looking at this slate and I'm kind of concluding that there's no one obvious spot I want to get to, but definitely some that may be getting overlooked.
Slate Preview
San Jose vs St. Louis
Didn't think we'd start here, did ya? Is this game going to be watchable – no. But does it feature a bunch of cheap options for fillers? Boy, you bet. Starting with San Jose, who I feel like I owe a play just for getting me there against Dallas the other night. Mikael Granlund may be out ($6,100) which is a letdown, but we can go to even cheaper options or go for a two-man winger combo. I don't mind a William Eklund ($4,100) and Fabian Zetterland ($4,800), two-man here and if I'm building a three-forward, two-winger plus defensemen build, I can throw in a couple options on the Sharks blue line which helps fit most of the expensive lines in tonight. I can say, I'm not sure I'm going to be going too hog-wild up with pricing, but for a couple first line stacks I'm eyeing, this game might be where I go for filler options.
For the Blues here, I would imagine a similar build as if I was to play the Sharks side here. Jordan Kyrou ($6,500) is the most expensive skater in this contest, and while I can't say I love spending that much for him, the spot is good here for St. Louis and I like his line with Robert Thomas ($5,100) and Pavel Buchnevich ($4,500). The Blues are the largest favorite we have on the slate tonight, and that makes me think that I'll likely try and get something from St. Louis in here depending on just how I build.
New York Rangers vs Calgary
I tried to find a nice fancy stat here for the Rangers going off the last two weeks, but this club is about middle of the road in every category (skating-wise). Still, I don't mind this Rangers club here tonight and feel like they might get slightly overlooked with Colorado, Edmonton, Minnesota, and Florida, all on the slate. If I'm going anywhere here, I'm likely looking to spend up for Artemi Panarin ($9,100) and then mix and match from there. The Flames have the sixth worst PK% of the last two weeks, so taking pieces of the New York top power play would be how I'd want to attack this game. I could see if I'm making three lineups, I probably have one that's a full-on New York PP stack, and in single entry I'm considering them.
For Calgary, this team is 10-6-3, and have a 7-0-3 record at home. I know I said New York might be overlooked, but Calgary has me interested. They now have Connor Zary ($3,400, stock up) on the top line with Blake Coleman ($4,400) and Jonathan Huberdeau ($3,800), and while I might not add Coleman to any Calgary stack, I do like a two-man of Zary-Huberdeau. Nazem Kadri ($5,400) is currently listed on the third line/second power play unit, and is usually where I go if I play anything on the Flames. Maybe he gets softer matchups down on the bottom-six, but for me this is top line or bust.
Florida vs Chicago
I finally got to see the 'Hawks live on Tuesday. They're abysmal. I hadn't realized just how sloppy the line changes are and how slow this team is out on the ice. It's for that reason (along with the lowest GF past two weeks at all strengths), that this may just be an empty-the-clip-with-Florida night. Aleksander Barkov ($7K) is on a nine-game point streak and somehow gone down in price, and Sam Reinhart ($8K) has been one of the hottest players, if not the hottest, in the NHL right now. Really, the top three lines are in play right here with some of the prices like Barkov going down to now where we see Sam Bennett ($6,200 previously $6,400), Matthew Tkachuk ($6,900 previously $7K) and Anton Lundell ($4,400 down from $4,600), all in play. For single entry I'd probably get to Florida one way or another, and if I'm going three-max I can almost guarantee two of the lineups being Florida heavy. We ride.
For Chicago…so, wish granted – Connor Bedard is finally playing on the wing. He can create more there and doesn't need to spend his entire shift in the DZ off a lost draw. The problem is the 'Hawks have been running him out there with Jason Dickinson, who might be Chicago's best defensive forward. Sure, maybe the top line doesn't get run over, but everything else likely will. The pieces I like for Chicago are all on the blue line and maybe goaltender for some spice.
Defensemen
For me, Adam Fox would be who I'd want to target here at $5,800, and still in the $5K range, Jake Walman makes some sense here. Tonight though, one spot where you can get away with cheaper options is in the $4,300-$3,800 range where we have Ryan Pulock, Alex Vlasic, and Gustav Forsling all in that price range. I also have to give a shout to Declan Chisholm ($3K), who is currently running Minnesota's top power play unit.
Goalies
In net tonight, Ilya Samsonov on a road-back-to back for Vegas going up against Ottawa at $7,800 has my interest here. Both goaltenders in the Carolina/New Jersey game I think are fine plays, and Karel Vejmelka on the road in Boston at $7,300 might be a popular play but I like the spot. If you want to get really spicey here, Petr Mrazek is going to see volume and down at $6,900. I'm not considering it but in a non-FLA build I'm not not considering it.
Good luck tonight everybody!
