DFS Saturday: Vegas Could Strike Gold

Good morning all! So I haven't really been able to get into much DFS during the Thanksgiving holiday here in the States, but I did have a New Jersey power-play stack on Tuesday. I was a little tight on salary while building and wanted to do a couple different things, so I went full NJ PP stack plus Jacob Markstrom but thought eh, I'll leave Nico Hischier off and swap. So ya know, that was a missed cash after he buried a hat-trick in the second period. Today I can't say that I'll be all over the board on exposure, even on a large slate, but do have a couple games that I'm interested in.

Slate Preview:

Washington vs New Jersey

So Alex Ovechkin gets hurt, which is a bummer here, but why shift the lines around? I want to get some Capitals in my lineup here tonight but not sure just where I want to go. Ideally, I'd want to get a correlated winger in with Connor McMichael ($5,700) on the top power-play unit, but that is unfortunately not the case the way the lines are currently constructed with McMichael skating on the second line. I could see myself maybe going to a Dylan Strome ($6,100) – Tom Wilson ($5,600) two-man, but that's about the top of salary that I would want to spend on this pair. I'd expect goals to come in this game, and if that's the case I want some Washington in my lineup, so I'd maybe look to take pieces of the top-six and move along from there. I can say, I will be single entering today and I'm not sure if I get to the Caps here, but if I go up to three-max then this is a club that I would want to get to even if it wasn't a full-on three-man stack.

For the Devils, I've gone two-games playing the top two line wingers, plus Dougie Hamilton, and goaltending…and missed cash both times. Still, I kind of want to go back to this strategy. Something about insanity trying something over and over, but this is a club that I could want to get to in some way here tonight. Timo Meier draws back in at $6,200 following him having to miss one contest, and I like throwing him in some sort of 4-3-1 with Jesper Bratt ($7,100), Stefan Noesen ($4K), and Ondrej Palat down at $2,900. This with two of those players at $4K and under, I can do a bunch of fun things with my lineup, even if that does mean that my forward and Util is taken already in my lineup. I love this Devils club at home again here and will likely be looking into mashing some New Jersey into my lineup.

Utah vs Vegas

Utah is the club for me this season that I'd love to play from time-to-time, but something always keeps me off of them. Whether that be lines, pricing, matchup, I never seem to be able to pull the trigger on adding them. Tonight, they'll be going out against a Vegas team on a back-to-back and I could see where maybe Utah gets overlooked here a little bit. The problem is though, I don't really want to spend up for some of their skaters on a large slate like we have today. I can't say $4,600 for Nick Schmaltz, who hasn't scored a goal yet is something I want to play, and Clayton Keller $500 more expensive now at $6,900 is a pass. Where I could see going here is to their blue line or Logan Cooley at $4,300 if I'm looking to get a center on the cheaper side tonight. I'd take parts of the Utah second line well over the first tonight, so if you want to include Dylan Guenther at $5,800 that's fine. In single entry, I can't see myself rostering them, but 3-max if you wanted to take a forward here or there to get unique you can.

Vegas, on the other hand, is where I have real interest here tonight. I have to start with Jack Eichel who's up at $9K, but is it just me or does he only have multi-point games? I have Eichel prioritized tonight, and even if that's just a one-off in my lineup I'm alright with that. If you want to get to more Vegas, I don't really think a PP stack is a bad idea either, as you can stack Nicolas Roy down at $3,400, Pavel Dorofeyev at $4,900, and Tomas Hertl sitting at $5K. This is a Utah team that in their last ten games leads the NHL in calls against them and have a penalty kill of under 75% in that timeframe, so if they're going to play shorthanded a few times tonight then I would be more than willing to ty and get Vegas into a lineup. If I decide to go with a 4-3-1 build tonight, I'm on the fence of just how much Vegas I'll have, but they are for sure one of my primary stacks tonight.

Defensemen

If I'm spending up at defensemen tonight then Dougie Hamilton would probably be my ceiling at $6,600 to go with anything New Jersey that I'd have in a lineup. Shea Theodore at $5,700 on Vegas for that same reason, if I'm playing Vegas I'd want to get him in a stack. On larger slates, I typically spend down for defensemen though and there's plenty lower priced options that I don't mind here. Noah Hanifin ($3,900), Ryker Evans ($3,800), Jamie Oleksiak ($3,400), Nick Seeler ($3,300), Vladislav Gavrikov ($3,300) and Ryan Pulock ($3,200), are all viable spend-down options here tonight.

Goalies

I've gone up and down this list and am hoping to not have to spend up in net, but that just might be the price point that I'll be around tonight. Filip Gustavsson leads the charge for me there if he's starting tonight for Minnesota hosting the Preds, coming off a 40-point DK performance on Wednesday. Anthony Stolarz ($7,500) interests me here, but I would think that this would only be for multiple lineups where if he gets shelled by Tampa then your lone lineup isn't completely tanked. Still, I don't mind it if he were to get into my lineup tonight and in 3-max, odds are he's starting in at least one of my lineups. Scott Wedgewood versus Carolina is another spicey play here going up against Minnesota, but he looked really good coming into the game in relief for the Preds this week. He's $7,300, which might be a tad bit steep for a backup, but if I have the salary, I might look his way.

Good luck tonight everybody!
