DFS Saturday: Washington Should Capitalize

Good morning, all! Let's have a Saturday today all, we're into the cash today, I can feel it. I've been playing well lately and it's fun because the slates I've done well in I've been up to my neck in work (boo, tomato), and have had to plug and play with literally zero research. See friends, DFS is all about…just sort of feeling it out? You don't drive with your eyes; you drive with your heart.
All joking aside though, this is a fun slate and off the bat there were a couple spots that I wanted to target here for tonight. For today, we're going with the main slate of 7 pm ET.
Slate Preview:
Washington vs Montreal
This game might be a trainwreck…I love it. You got the Caps that have the highest goals off the rush and then the Habs who I feel like try and get in a track meet out there on each slate. Starting off with the road Caps, who changed up their lines slightly so again I have hesitancy. If come warmups we have a fully correlated top line of Connor McMichael ($6,100), Dylan Strome ($6,300), and Tom Wilson ($5,900), then you have my interest here. This is a Montreal team that over the course of this season has drawn the second-most penalties, and their PK has been fine. If I can get more chances on the man advantage against this Habs team, I'll gladly take it. I can't see myself dropping down to Capitals depth here as much so this may be a case to check in warmups on just what the lines are before making any decisions.
For the home Canadiens I have interest here. This is a Capitals team that played last night, and I could see myself going to a three-man stack for the Canadiens, the problem is who do I want. Trends are our friends in DFS, and if that's the case, then Nick Suzuki at $5,900 might make the cut here with eight points in his last five games and Cole Caufield ($7K and should have made Team USA with Tage Thompson instead of Trocheck/Kreider – what are we doing US), with six points in his last five. Going overboard on the Canadiens has given me mixed results in the past here but even grabbing Patrik Laine on the second line at $5,300 is something that I might consider. It's not the overall greatest spot on the night, but it's one that I'm considering here in my single entry.
Nashville vs Ottawa
Here we go! Okay starting with the Preds, maybe this is the night to where this club finally breaks out. Maybe this also the night that they win their first Stanley Cup? I'm sorry that was mean…I love Nashville for DFS going back to the "Nashville three" days from a few seasons back. Craig Smith. Nick Bonino. Our heroes. But honestly though, what are the Preds doing? I would think going through this much of a slump that drastic line changes would take place but maybe they just keep pounding the rock until there's a positive result. I will always give shine to Filip Forsberg who is down below $8K, and he's going to be with Steven Stamkos ($4,600), and Gustav Nyquist ($2,800), who will all skate together at all strengths. Honestly, the one I'm most excited about on that line would be a Forsberg-Nyquist two-man in that situation as crazy as it sounds.
For the Senators, this is Nashville on the road. Three goals are in the Senators future here, we just need to pick the right line and combos. For me, there's no way that I play the Senators without Brady Tkachuk ($8,500), he shoots almost four times a game and I don't see much in the way for this Preds team stopping that from happening. If I'm going with Tkachuk then odds are I'll pair him with Drake Batherson ($6k), who has been a points machine lately riding an eight-game point streak. I can't say I'll be grabbing a center from this game, but if I'm going overboard here with the Sens and making a 4/3/1, then maybe dropping down and grabbing Claude Giroux ($3,900) and Adam Gaudette ($3,100) might be in play. I don't love that second line at even strength, this would be more for getting additional exposure on the powerplay. I can say right now that Ottawa makes the cut for me in single entry, I just don't know as of right now how much I'll get to.
Colorado vs Detroit
I tried to find something out there besides the sample to start the season on how bad Ville Husso has been for Detroit…and was coming up with nothing glaring. Still, this is Colorado going into a really favorable matchup versus Detroit, so this game is going to be popular. I am always of the opinion that if you want to play Colorado's top line, to do just that and find a filler stack that you like, lock and load. To me, this is top line or bust as I haven't seen anything from the second line lately for Colorado to sway my opinion otherwise. Shocker, that price tag is steep so the way I would build here would be only for 3-max and above, so you can use Colorado one as an anchor and then mix and match with different filler stacks from there. I'd like to say I get here with Colorado, but this might just be too rich for my blood.
On the Detroit side, if Colorado is going to throw out Alexandar Georgiev in net, then I have to give some thought as to what to do here. Georgiev has the third-worst GSAA over the past two weeks, and this is a Colorado club that over the course of the season has the second worst goals allowed per game, only behind Pittsburgh. I've never been a big fan of how the Wings construct their lines but if I can get Dylan Larkin ($6,100) and Lucas Raymond ($5,600) together at all strengths then I'll consider them. Even Alex DeBrincat at $5,800 is fine here, but I'm not sure if I dip my toe in the water with the Wings how much I'll get to. There might be other lines out there in this price range to consider, but going up against Georgiev might be a spot for me to grab a couple pieces off the Wings and go about my day building my lineup.
Defensemen:
For defense tonight, I'm probably going to be living in the mid-range and some names I like here tonight are Moritz Seider at ($5,600), Jakob Chychrun ($5,400), and Morgan Rielly at $5,300. Lower priced options that I'm considering here would be Jared Spurgeon ($3,700) and Chris Tanev ($3,600).
Goalies:
In net tonight it's likely going to be a spend up evening with Joseph Woll or Anthony Stolarz at the top of my board at $8,100. While I probably don't get up that far in price, I could see myself playin Linus Ullmark at $7,800 with my eventual Senators build but if I was going against the Sens then going to Saros at $7,600 would be fine. For the spice tonight, Ville Husso is priced at $7,100…he's going to see volume, which we love, and he is priced down. I want to say I'm brave enough to go there, but I've already had one lineup early in the season sink because of Husso. Not sure I'll go back for seconds.
Good luck tonight everybody!
