DFS Saturday: Senators, Predators In Good Spots

Good morning, everyone! Oh alright, alright, the rumors you've all been hearing are true. I placed 268th in a tournament the other day to win $1.50. The wins just keep coming over here. This is an interesting slate that feature a couple of teams in good spots, along with one game that's caught my eye.

Slate Preview:

Ottawa

I'm going to take you all back to late November/early December, the Senators had a stretch where they had gone 7-2-1 and I was texting my buddies saying that the Senators are going to make the playoffs. Welp, here we are again. I do like this club though here tonight going up against a Minnesota club that's missing parts of their blueline. I never thought that I would get to this point in the season where I would prefer Marc-Andre Fleury in net, but earlier in the week I was going through different goalie tables and what stood out was that Filip Gustavsson's play has been on a downslide as of late. Marked. Noted.

I'm looking seriously into some Ottawa action on this slate tonight and whatever I do, I will more than likely include Brady Tkachuk in my stack. His offense has been stagnant the past 20 games, but the shots on goal per game alone can help get into the shot bonus on DraftKings. Really, I don't mind getting creative if I go to Ottawa, you could take a stab all four forwards, lock and load. Double center with Tim Stutzle and Josh Norris is fine or even going double defensemen in Jake Sanderson and Thomas Chabot. I say this because most of these lines don't have full power-play correlation as currently constructed. Even if you wanted to go with an expensive Edmonton or Toronto line and add in Ottawa as a filler, that's fine too as Shane Pinto or Ridly Greig could make for a decent pair to add into an expensive lineup on this slate.

I tip my cap to everything Minnesota has been able to do this season with the injuries in and out of their lineup but at some point, it's too many holes in the boat so to speak. If I can catch them here on the road with a struggling goaltender in Gustavsson and injuries all up and down the lineup, then this is a spot I might be looking to attack.

Nashville

The Predators looked like last week was a turning point to them. However, those games were both against the Sharks. I still don't know how the Predators won the first of those two matchups but oh well, we're living in the now. The thing about the Predators is that even when this club was bottom of the league in scoring this season, they were always a popular play. It reminds me a little of Ottawa two seasons ago to where I saw plenty of stacks with a Tkachuk – Alex DeBrincat two-man stack.

The reason that I'm on the Predators here though is simple. It's the Penguins. More specifically the Penguins penalty kill which has been a bottom three PK in the month of January. Jonathan Marchessault, Filip Forsberg, and Steven Stamkos are all fully correlated, and I can't say that there's too much on the Pittsburgh side that worries me at even strength, along with a penalty kill that has struggled. I have not been on Pittsburgh since the beginning of the season but there may not be too many more get-right spots for this club.

If you want to add in Roman Josi, I'm never going to say no to that idea, and even if you just want to throw Josi in as an expensive one-off I think that's fine. I typically like to watch whatever stack I'm rostering, but this is the one time that if I go to Nashville, I can't see myself tuning into some Predators/Penguins action. Maybe at commercial breaks for Toronto/Edmonton but that would be about it.

Winnipeg versus Washington

Rarely do I game stack, but this one has caught my eye. The two teams with the most goals off the rush this season would be Winnipeg and Washington. This is going to go one of two-ways tonight. The first is just a fireworks display of points as each of these club's top six are bag skating up and down the ice. The second is that happens, but Connor Hellebuyck and Logan Thompson, arguably the two best goaltenders we've had this season, shut the door on each side and before you know it this game is going to a shutout. Rarely do I game stack, and normally try and avoid excellent goaltending, but tonight I might try and roll the dice on these two clubs.

Defensemen:

As I mentioned, Josi is a great pick tonight either in a stack or solo, and I also don't mind Moritz Seider going up against the Flames. Victor Hedman going up against the Isles is a nice pivot, and I'm at the point to were playing expensive Tampa Bay usually just means going with a Hedman one-off and going about my build. Both top pairs of the Winnipeg/Washington game are good in a game stack, as these are two defensive groups that are very involved on the power play. If you're playing Carolina, you can save some money on the blue line adding Jaccob Slavin and on the opposite side of that game, I like Drew Doughty who is right back into the Kings lineup and playing big minutes.

Goalies:

There's a few goaltenders that are catching my eye. We just need to know the start confirmations to make heads or tails of where to go. If Juuse Saros is back for Nashville, then I don't mind him going up against the Pens. He put together a good string of starts in the middle of the month and if he's in that form then he makes for a good start tonight. If Frederik Andersen gets the start, I have interest, and for that matter Pyotr Kochetkov as well. Stuart Skinner going up against the Leafs is going to see volume, and volume in DFS is king. If you can fit him into your lineup he'll make for a good play tonight. (See GoaliePost for up-to-date starting goalie information.)

Good luck tonight everybody!
