Good day, everyone! I didn't put in any lineups yesterday with there being only three games, but did end up playing an Islanders/Florida stack on Tuesday that provided me with my entry fees for today. Win a bit, go right back in. This is a fun slate tonight with a couple spots that off the bat caught my eye on potential spots to build around.
Slate Preview
New Jersey Devils
I went against Vegas on Tuesday, and I might be doing that very same thing again here tonight. The Knights are 2-5-3 in their last ten games going up against a Devils squad with a fully correlated top line. Even with the Devils not shooting the puck as much recently, I can't cross this group off as they've been excellent on the PK, and I can get a Jack Hughes line together at all strengths. Hughes is above $8K per usual, but Bratt is now down below $6K at $5,800 and Ondrej Palat is at a reasonable $4,100. This line together allows you to potential spend up for a goaltender or defensemen if you can find a medium to low priced stack to go along with them, and I like having that flexibility in my lineup. You can add Dougie Hamilton to your Devils stack at $5,900, but the minutes lately have gone more to Brenden Dillon at $2,600 and Brett Pesce at $3,300. If you need a cheap defenseman, I'd lean Pesce here and this gives you the option to price your lineup down a bit while keeping defensemen minutes up.
Utah Hockey Club
We just saw the Utah…is it Mammoth? Have we picked a name yet or are the fans out there still voting? Either way, we just saw this matchup last Friday where the Jackets beat Utah 3-2 in overtime in Utah. Now, this game is in Columbus so why Utah here? I was on the Jackets on Tuesday and flipping the script now given the number of injuries on the Columbus side along with not being too afraid to go up against Elvis Merzlinkins in net. I don't want to go overboard on Utah here, but I do like Clayton Keller ($7,800) as a one-off tonight and can be talked into going down to the second line and adding in Dylan Guenther at $6,200 and Barrett Hayton at $4,100. This group is too expensive to be a filler on tonight's slate but they're going to go overlooked just like they've been on the past few slates. This is a night with New Jersey which we just talked about, Colorado, and Toronto. I'm not saying don't play those lines as they're always playable, but if I'm looking for a unique build tonight then I might find myself playing pieces of this Utah club.
Calgary Flames vs. Colorado Avalanche
I absolutely love this game for DFS, so let's start off with the Avalanche. I 10 times out of 10 will always say playing the Avs top line on any slate is fine, but I find that I don't play them as often as I probably should be. Most of this is price driven as Nathan MacKinnon alone $9K and is the second most expensive player on the board tonight, but the spot tonight is too intriguing. I get a fully correlated Colorado top line with MacKinnon, Artturi Lehkonen ($6,200) and Martin Necas ($7,200) going up against a Calgary team that over the past month has the highest penalty rate per game. Sign me up! This is also a Flames team that has real trouble winning draws, forcing them to usually have to go right back into their own end, sure Morgan Frost helps that a little bit, but sometimes in DFS faceoff percentage gets overlooked. I have yet to build my lineup going from meeting to meeting today, but if/when I get a chance, I'm strongly considering getting a Colorado build together in single entry.
With all said, let's talk Flames. I watched most of their last game out against Toronto and sure, the Leafs won pretty handily but coming of the gate, the Flames had excellent shot attempts, but they also had a goal that was called back, and it felt like when they could finally get into a rhythm there would be another call against them. Let's be honest, most DFS players tonight are going to be on the Avs, and rightfully so as I may be one of them. What I can't get away from though is playing the Flames and going to the top line of Jonathan Huberdeau ($5,900), Nazem Kadri ($7,600) and Joel Farabee at $4,500. Even with this line not skating together on the power play but point to me a time and an even strength line that ever is for this club. It's a large slate tonight where getting a unique build might just be the way into the cash. For that reason, I'm maybe more on the Flames side of this matchup then I am the Avalanche as crazy as that sounds. This is probably too expensive to all-out game stack but if you wanted to go with the Flames top line plus Lehkonen and Necas and find cheap defensemen elsewhere, I think that's in play as well. I love this game tonight and will have eyes on it either way.
Defensemen
Tippy-top today we have Cale Makar at $7,900, and if you can make him fit in with an expensive Colorado stack, he's in an excellent power play spot. I don't love the price of Jakob Chychrun right now up at $6,100 but if you are playing any Capitals, he does make some sense going into a decent matchup versus the Flyers. Scrolling down, Ivan Provorov is a good pivot at $4,600 if Zach Werenski is unable to go tonight for the Blue Jackets. I like Darren Raddysh at $4K and around that price also like Jonas Brodin at $3,900. For a cheap defenseman tonight, I got to go with the block bot himself, Mario Ferraro at $3,200.
Goalies
In net tonight my ceiling is Andrei Vasilevskiy at $8,100, he's been excellent lately and is in a good matchup volume wise up against the Senators. Joey Daccord at $7,500 up against the Leafs is another decent matchup for volume and if Marc-Andre Fleury is in net for the Wild then I can see myself getting to him up against the Carolina Hurricanes. I normally don't tend to go too far down the way for goaltenders but have Alexander Georgiev on my radar up against the Canucks at home.
Good luck tonight everybody!
