We last checked in with AHL prospects for Western teams in mid-November. I've added a few players since then as some of the mid-level prospects have had good seasons.
This is part two after posting part one last week here.
We're not going to include players over the age of 25 or any player currently on their NHL roster.
Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville)
Joakim Kemell (20.9) (F) (45-11-18-29) 1st round (17th) in 2022
Reid Schaefer (21.5) (F) (19-8-6-14) 1st round (32nd) in 2022
Ryan Ufko (21.8) (D) (52-6-13-19) 4th round in 2021
Ozzy Wiesblatt (23.0) (F) (48-13-15-28) 1st round (30th) in 2020
Kemell has shown some slight improvement in his second full AHL campaign going from 0.61 points per game to 0.64 after 45 games. He has seen two NHL games with Nashville in 2024-25.
Schaefer was injured in early December after playing just 19 games with 14 points. He's a big kid (6-4, 220 lbs) so the offense could be a pleasant surprise if he can maintain it.
With just three assists in his first 14 games of 2024-25, Ufko didn't look like the player who posted 16 points in his first 24 AHL games (both regular and playoff games in 2023-24). He's rebounded a little in his last 38 games with six goals and 10 assists. He will need to continue to produce to get a look in the NHL.
Wiesblatt started slow with five points in his first 13 games but has 12 goals and 11 assists in his past 35 AHL games. It earned him three games up with the Predators where he went pointless. His recent play might have put him back on the prospect map.
Ontario Reign (Los Angeles)
Angus Booth (20.9) (D) (47-2-11-13) 4th round in 2022
Jakub Dvorak (19.8) (D) (26-0-4-4) 2nd round in 2023
Francesco Pinelli (21.9) (F) (47-12-9-21) 2nd round in 2021
Erik Portillo (24.6) (G) (15-5-3, 2.82, 88.9) 3rd round in 20219
The Kings' prospect pool has dried up a little with a few recent graduates. They have some 25 and 26-year-old prospects in Samuel Fagemo, Tyler Madden, Jack Studnicka and Reilly Walsh who in my opinion have aged out of the prospect status.
Booth is having an impressive pro rookie year in the AHL, earning a regular role on the blueline and chipping in a little offense as well. He's probably climbed the depth chart a little.
Dvorak just came over to North America in 2023-24 after he split his season between the Czechia league and the WHL. He is in his rookie North American pro campaign and will need a year or two in the AHL as he's not even 20 yet.
Pinelli will need to improve on his 20 points in 67 games as a rookie in the AHL from 2023-24 to get a chance in the NHL. He is on pace for 30-35 points in 75 games.
Portillo is winning in the AHL but struggling with his save percentage. He did get one start and the win with the Kings where he made 28 saves on 29 shots on goal. He had a 91.8 save percentage in 39 AHL games in 2023-24.
Rockford Icehogs (Chicago)
Artyom Levshunov (19.4) (D) (46-5-16-21) 1st round (2nd) in 2024
Kevin Korchinski (20.7) (D) (42-2-19-21) 1st round (7th) in 2022
Colton Dach (22.2) (F) (32-12-14-26) 2nd round in 2021
Drew Commesso (22.6) (G) (8-12-2, 89.6) 2nd round in 2020
Wyatt Kaiser (22.7) (D) (16-0-3-3) 3rd round in 2020
Korchinski has had a disappointing 2024-25, mostly in the AHL but also through nine games with the Blackhawks where he went pointless. I've said this about a number of offensive defenders before. If they aren't producing offense, then they really limit their opportunities to play meaningful minutes in the NHL. Korchinski needs time in the AHL to progress. The full season in the NHL in 2023-24 might not have helped his overall development.
Hopefully, the Blackhawks will take a different path with Levshunov and let him play 65 games or more in the AHL and give him some small tastes of the NHL in 2024-25. Levshunov has a more well-rounded game than Korchinski and could be a regular in 2025-26.
Dach had 26 points in 32 AHL games overall. He was called up by the Blackhawks and managed to stick for 13 games where he got his first NHL goal and added three assists and posted 41 hits. He turned some heads.
Commesso has struggled to take the starting role in the AHL with an 89.6 save percentage and a record of 8-12-2. He did get into two NHL games where he received one start and went into the other game in relief. He allowed four goals on 26 SOG (84.6%). I'm sure the Blackhawks would like Commesso to take the reins in the AHL and get into 50 games or more.
It looks like Kaiser has changed his game a little from a defender with some offense to a defensive defenseman. He had 23 points in 35 games in his last year of college hockey before putting up 18 points in his first 37 AHL games in 2023-24. He has managed to play 76 games in the NHL and has one goal and 12 assists. After playing 35 games with the Blackhawks in 2024-25 he was sent to the AHL and has just three points in 16 games.
San Diego Gulls (Anaheim)
Noah Warren (20.6) (D) (41-0-3-3) 2nd round in 2022
Yegor Sidorov (20.7) (F) (38-11-12-23) 3rd round in 2023
Nathan Gaucher (21.3) (F) (50-6-8-14) 1st round (22nd) in 2022
Sam Colangelo (23.1) (F) (37-19-16-35) 2nd round in 2020
Sasha Pastujov (21.7) (F) (36-15-22-37) 3rd round in 2021
Tristan Luneau (21.1) (D) (37-6-29-35) 2nd round in 2022
Jan Mysak (22.7) (F) (46-12-17-29) 2nd round in 2020
Calle Clang (22.8) (G) (9-13-4, 3.22, 89.4) 3rd round in 2020
Nico Myatovic (20.2) (F) (42-5-3-8) 2nd round in 2023
Tyson Hinds (21.9) (D) (49-3-10-13) 3rd round in 2021
Nikita Nesterenko (23.5) (F) (42-9-14-23) 6th round in 2019
The Ducks have a very deep defensive pool of prospects. I'd expect to see some of these players included in trade packages, to help bolster their forward group.
Warren was a member of the Canadian World Junior team in 2024. He's a stay-at-home right-shot defender who will need a season or two in the AHL before getting a look in Anaheim.
Sidorov has shown that he can score at the junior level and has had a decent start to his pro career with 11 goals in 37 games on 105 SOG. If he continues to shoot the puck on the net close to three times per game, he should be just fine.
Gaucher is looking more and more like a fourth-line NHLer in the future, who might see some third-line minutes. This is his second AHL season and his points per game have gone from 0.35 to 0.27.
Colangelo has had almost a point per game in his rookie AHL year after 37 games. It earned him an extended 12-game look with Anaheim where he was able to score his second career NHL goal. His role with the Ducks could be in the bottom six to start as he can play a physical style as well as produce some points.
Pastujov leads the San Diego Gulls in scoring with 37 points in 36 games, which is impressive considering that he started the year in the ECHL and posted 16 points in 12 games there. He's going to have to outscore the other prospects on the depth chart and pounce on any opportunity he gets. He's going to have to earn an NHL role.
Luneau is just another offensive defender that the Ducks have in their system. He's played six games with the Ducks in 2024-25 and seven in 2023-24. He played just 13 games in 2023-24 at any level, so it's important that he plays a full season in 2024-25. He's certainly impressed with 35 points in 37 games with San Diego. I'm just not sure how he ever passes Olen Zellweger, Pavel Mintyukov or Jackson LaCombe on this depth chart for the role he plays.
Mysak was acquired from Montreal for Jacob Perreault and is in his third AHL season at just 22 years of age. His points per game have increased from 0.23 to 0.33 to 0.64, so he is on the right path. He played 22 games in the AHL in 2020-21 when the OHL was shut down.
I had these visions of Clang backing up Lukas Dostal at the beginning of 2024-25 and somehow becoming the starter before John Gibson returned from his injury. It never happened as the Ducks signed James Reimer as the backup and Clang was sent back to the AHL where he still is. Clang hasn't progressed much from 2023-24 and Gibson and Dostal have been excellent.
Myatovic has just turned 20 and has 54 AHL games under his belt. He has just five goals and three assists in those games, so he will need quite a bit more time to develop in this league.
Hinds is in his second AHL season and has gone from 0.14 points per game to 0.26. He will need to develop as an all-around defender as he's not going to beat out the other offensive defenders in the Ducks' system.
Nesterenko has gotten a look in the NHL with the Ducks three years running. He saw nine games in 2022-23 after turning pro and leaving Boston College, three games in 2023-24 and seven games already in 2024-25. He's managed to pot three goals and one assist in those 19 games. His points per game in the AHL sits at 0.53 after 113 games. The Ducks obviously see something in his game that they haven't hesitated to call him up when needed.
San Jose Barracuda (San Jose)
Luca Cagnoni (20.2) (D) (47-13-23-36) 4th round in 2023
Filip Bystedt (21.1) (F) (43-9-17-26) 1st round (27th) in 2022
Thomas Bordeleau (23.1) (F) (40-11-16-27) 2nd round in 2020
Yaroslav Askarov (22.7) (G) (10-7-1 92.2) 1st round (11th) in 2020
Ethan Cardwell (22.6) (F) (41-7-27-34) 4th round in 2021
Danil Gushchin (23.0) (F) (33-14-8-22) 3rd round in 2020
Tristen Robins (23.3) (F) (37-7-11-18) 2nd round in 2020
Cagnoni is on pace for 60-65 points in his first rookie pro campaign at the age of 20. He's outperformed some much higher draft picks from 2023. I could see him getting a few games with the Sharks towards the end of 2024-25. 25 of his 36 points in the AHL have been on the power play.
Bystedt started with 15 points in his first 19 AHL games of 2024-25. In his next 34 games, he produced just 11 points, which is hardly worthy of a promotion.
Bordeleau played 27 games for the Sharks in 2023-24 but it appears that he is going a little backwards and might have been passed on the depth chart by Graf and Bystedt. He might not get a look in the NHL in 2024-25 with the Sharks.
Askarov got a good long look in the NHL with 13 games, where he went 4-6-2 with an 89.6 save percentage. He's the odd man out with the Sharks until they trade one of Vanecek or Georgiev.
Cardwell saw his production in the AHL go from 0.61 points per game to 0.83 and he was rewarded with six games with the Sharks where he got his first NHL goal. He's played well in 2024-25 and could see some more time in the NHL later in the season.
Gushchin is a shooting machine who has averaged between 3.0 and 4.0 shots per game in his three AHL seasons. His points per game rate has reverted back to 0.67 after it was 0.96 in 2023-24. He did get 10 games with the Sharks in 2024-25 but managed just one assist.
Robins was a second-round pick in 2020 who seems to have leveled off in the AHL at around 0.5 points per game. He got a three-game look from the Sharks in 2022-23, but might not see another with them at this pace.
Springfield Thunderbirds (St. Louis)
Dalibor Dvorsky (19.7) (F) (45-15-20-35) 1st round (10th) in 2023
Aleksanteri Kaskimaki (21.1) (F) (48-11-21-32) 3rd round in 2022
Colten Ellis (24.4) (G) (18-7-2, 92.4) 3rd round in 2019
Nikita Alexandrov (24.5) (F) (26-15-14-29) 2nd round in 2019
Samuel Johannesson (24.2) (D) (47-3-20-23) 6th round in 2020
Otto Stenberg (19.8) (F) (15-3-7-10) 1st round (25th) in 2023
Leo Loof (22.9) (D) (42-0-11-11) 3rd round in 2020
Dylan Peterson (23.1) (F) (46-11-8-19) 3rd round in 2020
Dvorsky is on pace for 55-65 points as a 19-year-old in the AHL if he plays 75-80 games. He's progressing very well.
Kaskimaki has shown some unexpected offense in the AHL after just 24 points in 89 Finnish Liiga games in the two years prior. He is on pace for 50-60 points.
After just 22 AHL games and 82 ECHL games since 2021-22, Ellis has put himself back on the prospect list with 28 AHL games in 2024-25, posting a record of 18-7-2 and a save percentage of 92.4.
Alexandrov had played 28 NHL games for the Blues in 2022-23 and 23 games in 2023-24 but has yet to play a game in 2024-25. He's played 74 AHL games during that period and has produced 37 goals and 37 assists. He's an in-betweener (AHL/NHL) who can produce at the AHL level but struggles to get that opportunity or separation at the NHL level.
Johannesson is a 24-year-old 6th round pick of the Blues in 2020, who is playing in North America for the first time after 239 career SHL games where he had 22 goals and 59 assists. He has a bit of offense to his game, but he probably sits second or third on the depth charts to get called up to the Blues on defense.
Stenberg started 2024-25 with Malmo in the SHL but after just three goals and three assists in 25 games, he moved to the AHL and has now played 15 games in Springfield. I'm sure the Blues are glad to have him in North America at just 19, but they will more than likely give him most of the year in the AHL.
Loof has now played 100 AHL games and still has not scored a goal, but does have 18 assists. He's a defensive defender who has shown some growth in 2024-25. He has little fantasy value.
Peterson is in his pro rookie campaign in the AHL and combines a bit of physicality and a little bit of offense. He's a player who could project as a third or fourth-line center in the NHL. He's had a decent start.
Texas Stars (Dallas)
Christian Kyrou (21.5) (D) (28-4-9-13) 2nd round in 2022
Chase Wheatcroft (22.8) (F) (46-7-15-22) free agent in 2023 (undrafted)
Antonio Stranges (23.1) (F) (45-17-23-40) 4th round in 2020
Matej Blumel (24.8) (F) (42-23-18-41) 4th round in 2019
Justin Hryckowian (24.0) (43-13-27-40) undrafted
Arttu Hyry (23.9) (F) (42-19-16-35) undrafted
Kyrou had such an excellent start to his second AHL season with three goals and six assists in the first 11 games of 2024-25. Since then, he has battled injuries and in 17 games put up just a goal and three assists. He'll need to get completely healthy and show that he can play both sides of the puck to get to the NHL.
After putting up 107 points in 68 games with Prince George as a 20-year-old, Wheatcroft was signed by Dallas as a free agent. He's progressed from 0.35 points per game to 0.48 in the AHL. He'll need to continue to progress.
After just 15 goals and 21 assists in his first 83 AHL games, and a 12-game stint in the ECHL, Stranges found himself well down the depth chart in Dallas. He's put himself back on the map for the Stars with 40 points in his first 45 games in 2024-25. He might even get a game or two with the Stars down the stretch.
Blumel is almost aged out of this list but just makes the cut. He has increased his points per game in the AHL the past three years from 0.76 to 0.86 and in 2024-25 to 0.98. It has earned him six games with Dallas in 2022-23 and seven in 2024-25. He has one goal in each of those call-ups.
Hryckowian was a free agent signing by the Stars out of Northeastern University after the 2023-24 campaign where he had 43 points in 32 games. He played 12 games in the AHL with just three points after turning pro. Entering 2024-25 as a rookie pro, he has put up 40 points in 43 AHL games and earned a five-game call-up from the Stars where he picked up his first NHL point.
The Stars have no shortage of depth to call up from the AHL to fill their third or fourth lines in 2024-25. Hyry is in his first North American pro season after 147 games in the Finnish Liiga where he had 27 goals and 26 assists. He's a big center (6-3, 214 lbs) who can win faceoffs. He put up 19 goals and 16 assists in 42 AHL games and received a call-up for five games with Dallas where he got his first NHL point on an assist.
Tucson Roadrunners (Utah)
Artem Duda (20.9) (D) (47-2-15-17) 2nd round in 2022
Julian Lutz (21.1) (F) (24-1-5-6) 2nd round in 2022
Aku Raty (23.7) (F) (47-4-14-18) 5th round in 2019
Maveric Lamoureux (21.1) (D) (19-2-7-9) 1st round (29th) in 2022
Duda is the first member of the Toronto Metro University to sign an NHL contract. He’s had a strange developmental route since being drafted in the 2nd round in 2022. He has played in the KHL, MHL, VHL, USports and now the AHL. He has had a good rookie year in the AHL and could see some time in Utah this year or next.
Lutz has struggled in the AHL as a 20-year-old rookie. He's played just 24 games and has had one goal and five assists. He might need some games in the ECHL to get some more playing time.
Raty has taken a step back from 2023-24 where he had 15 goals and 29 assists in 55 games (0.80/g) in the AHL and earned a call-up for one game where had an assist. He has just four goals and 14 assists in 47 games (0.38/g) in 2024-25.
Lamoureux is a rookie pro and has played 19 games in the AHL and 15 games in the NHL where he had a goal and two assists with 18 hits and 11 blocks. As a big (6-6, 196 lbs) defender we are hoping he puts up 25-35 points and 100 hits and blocks one day.
