Good day DFS'ers! I last played on Saturday which could not have been an earlier close-the-laptop-early night. We have to get back on the horse today and oh my oh my do we have an interesting slate in front of us. In my first pass looking this one over, I wasn't sure where I would land but found a few options that might be in great spots tonight.

Slate Preview

Philadelphia Flyers

This is my least favorite team to play in DFS going up against my second least favorite team to play in DFS. To be honest, I'm not even sure who is who anymore between the Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins but if there's one thing I can say, it's that Pittsburgh has been atrocious this season, in particular in the last month. This is a club that I want to attack in some way, but I run into the Philly issue which is what it's been for the past couple of seasons now and that's I have no idea what the lines are going to be. Right now, Noah Cates ($4,200), Bobby Brink ($4,00) and Tyson Foerester ($4,900) make up the Philadelphia top line and at least have been together the longest as a line over the past three games. Individually, I like each of these players, together as a line I could see someone getting moved off if the Flyers go down 1-0 early or the wind changes direction outside the arena. My lean here is that I can't look away from how bad Pittsburgh has been, even if it means walking across the tight rope of rostering Philadelphia. If you're like me and want to get exposure but worried about correlation, then maybe a Travis Konecny one-off at $6,800 is more your speed, and I don't mind pairing him with parts of the blueline.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Is Leafs versus Boston Bruins the best rivalry we have in hockey right now? Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great ones out there, but this one is must-watch hockey in the regular season or come playoff time. I thought the head-to-head numbers between these two would favor the Bruins, but it's been more Toronto as of late. If I'm going anywhere here, I'm spending up to the top and getting that top line fully correlated Auston Matthews ($9K), Mitch Marner ($7,600) and Matthew Knies ($6,400). It's expensive but this is a Bruins team that takes a good number of penalties and I'm hoping that maybe the price scares some folks away and I can get on Toronto at a lower roster number. If you want to leave off Knies, I'm actually alright with that as in the last three games he hasn't been much of a factor for DFS, but my worry is that we're right at the start of an Auston Matthews 20 points/20 games stretch that we've been waiting for. I watched most of the Leafs game against Chicago the other night, and it felt like the Leafs started off slow again but picked up towards the end of the game. Now, part of that could be the Blackhawks effect, but I'd be extremely encouraged if Toronto comes out in the first six minutes of this matchup and gets on the board. If I can fit this group into a lineup then this may be my go-to spot on this slate, with the bonus that this is also a game that I will be watching.

New York Islanders

Stop me if you've heard this before, but I'm on the Islanders again tonight. Reason being, besides a fully correlated top line, is that I actually want to go at Igor Shesterkin. Yes, you read that right. In the last month, Igor has the worst GSAA and GSAx in the entire league and maybe some of that has to do with the defense that's in front of him, but trends are your friends in DFS, and if that's the case then I want to get in on some Isles. Even if it's just a Bo Horvat ($6,200) and Anders Lee ($5,100) two-man, I'm fine with that and I don't mind adding in a piece or two from the second line or adding someone on the blueline. I've written about this Islanders club so much this season that I feel like I need another angle, or interesting stat maybe…here's something that I bet you didn't know. If you look at their logo, you'll see the Islanders script at the bottom, with a good portion of the letter "I" in blue, with the top coming to a point. That's because it's pointing at the location of the Islanders' old rink in Uniondale. See, you learned something new and fun about a club that we've all played 37 times this season. Remember this fun fact with me when the Islanders go 0-2 on the power play tonight.

Defensemen

Zach Werenski is at the top of the board, and I usually say if you have the salary go ahead and play him but I don't love this matchup going up against Dallas. I don't mind Jacob Chychrun at $5,800, going up against a Flames team that has taken a bunch of penalties in the past month. Mikhail Sergachev looks like he'll grade out alright tonight going up against Chicago who are at the bottom of almost every offensive category at even strength. I really like Travis Sanheim at $4,800 as he should see top power play time throughout the game tonight. Maybe. We hope. Esa Lindell for Dallas is a decent play at $4K along with Ryan Pulock. Going down the list, Philip Broberg is a name I like against Seattle and have some interest in Chris Tanev at $3,400.

Goalies

I don't love spending up for goaltenders, but Logan Thompson up against Calgary at $8,300 catches my eye. The way I'm building tonight, I will likely be below $8K for goaltender and may even be lower than that. I can see myself getting to Ilya Sorokin at $7,800. He got hot at the wrong time as right when his game really started to pick up, we had the Four Nations break. Andrei Vasilevskiy going up against Edmonton at $7,600 will see volume, so I really don't mind him tonight at all. The lowest I could see myself going would be Cam Talbot for Detroit going up against Minnesota at $7,400.

Good luck tonight everybody!
