Logan Clarkson

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening everyone. Welcome to the Injury Ward. My name is Logan Clarkson and every Wednesday I will be chauffeuring you through injury news and updates from around the NHL. I'll do my best to offer useful analysis and opinion as it relates to fantasy throughout. As always I’d like to thank every single one of you for reading. Now, on to the bad (and some good) news.

Mattias Ekhom / EDM – Ekholm (undisclosed) has had a bit of a rough stretch here after being scratched for Sweden's last Four Nations game before injuries to teammates brought him back in. Returning to Edmonton has done him no favors either as he sits with team worst defensive stats through the last few weeks. Bad timing for the Oilers as they have won just one of their last six games and Connor Mcdavid continues his uncharacteristic slump.

Quinn Hughes / VAN – Hughes (undisclosed) has been in and out of the lineup for the majority of the year and this week is no different. Quinn, who would be the league’s top defenseman in fantasy if Cale Makar evaporated into thin air, has been attempting to practice with the team this week and left practice both Monday and Tuesday. No solid timeline but at least he is attempting to skate. The Canucks did note today that he likely won’t be 100% at any point the rest of the season. As lalong as the Canucks are in the playoff hunt though, we expect him to play as much as he can.

Dougie Hamilton / CAR – Hamilton (lower-body) left in the first period of Tuesday’s game versus the Stars and did not finish the contest. Luke Hughes owners are screaming with joy at Dougie's behest after waiting 62 games to get him back on the top power play this season.

Jack Hughes / NJD – Hughes (Shoulder Surgery) is the latest brother to go down with a knock. It was announced today that he is done for the season once again with a shoulder surgery. With brother Quinn also struggling to stay healthy, these two represent some of the most frustrating players in fantasy. Two extreme talents watered down because of injury. It really sucks to see right before fantasy playoffs are firing up.

Brad Marchand / BOS – Marchand (lower body) is unfortunately listed as week-to-eek while he deals with an injury he picked up on Saturday causing him to miss his first game of the season on Sunday. Really bad news for a Boston team just barely on the outside of playoffs looking in as they sit two points behind Detroit for the final wild card spot with two games played more than anyone around them.

Cole Sillinger / CBJ – Sillinger (shoulder) is set to miss a few weeks after being placed on IR Tuesday. Known Tate Mcrae upsetter Sillinger has gotten lucky and does not require surgery on his shoulder injury. Luck is maybe not the best word to use for it, but Columbus can do some damage in the playoffs this year for the first season since 2019-2020 and they’re gonna want all the help they can get. Sillinger has seen an increase in his numbers this year in most cats. Bright future in Columbus today.

Sean Monahan / CBJ – Monahan (wrist) is expected to miss a few more weeks of action and is not slated to return to the Columbus lineup until late March. Good news for Fantilli owners, but would have been nice to see Sean get some more regular season run up time to the playoffs. I am very excited to see what the Blue Jackets can accomplish this spring.

Jason Zucker / BUF – Zucker (lower body) is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game versus the Sharks. Zucker has been slapping the bass for Buffalo this year, racking up points on the powerplay and even strength on the top line. Zucker's PDO is a 103, which is not very conducive to sustained success but he’s still getting it done for the time being. With a 14.5% on ice shooting percentage, it's possible we see regression coming soon.

Matthew Tkachuk / FLA – Tkachuk (groin) won’t be an option for Florida until the postseason after general manager Bill Zito told reporters Monday, “Matthew’s going to be out for an extended period of time. We hope to get him back for the playoffs.” Yikes. Florida seems to be seriously banged up from a few years straight of deep runs.

Roman Josi / NSH – Josi (upper body) is set to miss a week or more after being bundled into the boards from behind by Sam Bennet. One has to wonder if he's actually injured or just needs a break from the most disappointing team in the NHL this season. Just kidding, but it has been dire for Nashville so far. The positive regression never came for this team all year. The opposite of the Canucks season last year.

Drew Doughty / LA – Doughty (ankle) has been nursing his injury after his return to the lineup. He is still playing but it is something to keep an eye on.

Kirill Kaprizov / MIN – Kaprizov (lower body) is still week to week. General Manager Bill Guerin has stated that he is not sure when either Kirill or Eriksson Ek will return but he is hopeful for both to see regular season games before the playoffs begin.

Martin Necas / COL – Necas (illness) was dealing with nausea during Tuesday’s game versus the Penguins, Evan Rawal of the Denver Gazette reports. Keep an eye out for his status on Thursday.

Joel Eriksson Ek / MIN – Eriksson Ek (undisclosed) as stated above is expected to be back before the end of the regular season.

Adam Fox / NYR – Fox (upper body) was placed on injured reserve last Wednesday. He is expected to return before the regular season ends, but we have no real concrete updates in the past week since he was shelved.
