The Florida Panthers have acquired Brad Marchand from the Boston Bruins for a conditional 2027 second-round pick that can become a 2028 first-round pick if Florida wins two rounds of the playoffs this year and Marchand appears in at least 50 percent of the team's playoff games.
The Panthers receive:
Marchand, a 36-year-old winger who has played for the Bruins for his entire career. His production has gradually declined from elite levels in recent seasons, but he is still rosterable in many leagues with his current scoring pace. However, Marchand is currently listed week-to-week with an upper-body injury, so the Panthers could be thinking of UFA-to-be Marchand as more of a playoff rental than anything.

The Bruins receive:
Draft capital. It was a busy week for the Bruins.
Fantasy impact:
Assuming he returns from injury before the end of the regular season, Marchand should pick up some of the scoring left off by the injured Matthew Tkachuk. It sounds like Marchand's injury is less severe than Tkachuk's, with the latter expected to be out until the playoffs. A team with both Marchand and Tkachuk will be an irritating one to face in the playoffs, of course. If Marchand isn't ready in time for the playoffs, disregard this entire article if you only participate in regular-season fantasy leagues.
Once healthy, Marchand should fit in on the Panthers' top 6 in some way. His value could be maximized if he is on the top line with Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart, as well as on the top power play. However, Marchand could be more of a second-line option for the Panthers as opposed to the top-line role he is accustomed to in Boston, which could cut into his value slightly. However, the Panthers didn't bring a player like Marchand in for moral support on the bench, so expect him to factor into the lineup in some key capacity.
Rookie Mackie Samoskevich has recently been upgraded to Florida's top power play, so he could be the odd man out once Marchand makes his Panthers debut. Again, Marchand could be a rental, so the view on this analysis could be considered short term.
Morgan Geekie is now listed as the Bruins’ top left wing on their depth chart. While Marchand has been out of the lineup, Geekie has been added to the top power play as well. Boston’s roster does not contain as much depth as it used to, which means that Geekie should play a prominent role going forward.
Players this helps, in order:
Geekie
Barkov
Reinhart
Players this hurts, in order:
