Ramblings: Hall Hatty; Hertl Injury; Sneaky Value from Blankenburg & McLeod (March 24)

Chicago snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over Philly on Sunday.

Tyler Bertuzzi led the way with a goal and two assists. He's up to six points in his last four outings after going pointless through five games before that. Half of Bertuzzi's points during this hot streak have come with the man advantage thanks to a Chicago power play that's 4/7 over the team's last four contests. The team's PP heater has also benefitted Connor Bedard, who has four points in his last four games – with three of those points coming on the man advantage. Teuvo Teravainen is in a similar boat as his last three points were tallied on the power play, including two on Sunday. This PP success hasn't come out of nowhere as Chicago ranks eighth in the league with an impressive 25.4% success rate this season. It's a big step up from last year when they ranked 28th in the league at 16.6%.

Bertuzzi skated beside Joe Veleno and Philipp Kurashev, who posted two points apiece Sunday. Veleno's goal and assist were his first points with the Blackhawks in his seventh appearance for the team. He's seen more opportunity lately, hitting the 17-minute mark in his last two games after falling between 8-13 minutes in his previous five outings. Veleno's particularly valuable in leagues that track hits as he's posted at least two per game since arriving in Chicago.

Ryan Donato broke out of a small slump with two power-play goals on Sunday. He was pointless in his previous three outings but had a remarkable 22 points in 16 games before that.

Travis Sanheim's goal snapped a 14-game point drought. After a strong start to the season that featured 20 points in his first 32 outings, Sanheim has managed just eight points in his last 40 appearances. During this three-month dry spell, the Flyers rank 30th in the league with just 2.49 goals per game.

With two assists on Sunday, Matvei Michkov became the third rookie to reach the 50-point mark this season, with only Macklin Celebrini and Lane Hutson beating him there. Michkov's name isn't part of current Calder conversations, but it's fair to wonder if things would have been different had he been given more ice time this year. His 16:19 average is well below Celebrini's 19:47.

Travis Konecny led Flyers forwards in ice-time Sunday. He's averaging 20:42 this season, which is roughly a minute more than last year and ranks just outside the top 10 among league forwards. He tallied a goal and assist against Chicago, achieving last year's 68-point total in four fewer games.

In a game where his team was outshot 36-17, James Reimer stole two points with an impressive 33 saves. Sometimes hockey doesn't make sense, and this was one of those games. Most fantasy managers needing a spot start from this matchup would have turned to Eric Comrie, who has been excellent when called upon over the past few months. In a mismatch between the 2nd-place Jets and the 29th-place Sabres, Comrie suffered a shocking loss, allowing four goals on 16 shots. Condolences to any managers that faced a cruel fate despite making the right decision.

If you're in a deeper league and in the market for some offense and faceoff wins, stop what you're doing and grab Ryan McLeod. As I write this, he's rostered in 3% of Yahoo Leagues and 18% of Fantrax Formats, but he could be a game-changer down the stretch given his recent production and deployment. He's skating on Buffalo's top line with JJ Peterka and Tage Thompson. After a four-point outburst on Sunday, McLeod is up to 24 points in his last 25 games. He's averaging nearly 19 minutes a night during this stretch, which is a big step up from the 15:23 he was seeing prior. Buffalo is one of 12 teams that play four games next week.

After missing three games with injury, Peterka has scored in three-straight since returning to the lineup. He's been one of the few bright spots in Buffalo this year, scoring at an impressive 69-point pace. Nice.

After scoring on Sunday, Alex Tuch is up to 11 goals in his last 17 appearances. During this stretch, Leon Draisaitl is the only player in the league with more goals.

Making his second appearance for the Sabres since getting dealt by the Senators, 24-year-old Jacob Bernard-Docker posted two assists, two hits and two blocks on Sunday. Unfortunately, he skated just 12:49 as Buffalo's seventh defenseman after skating 11:29 in his debut Saturday. There seems to be some untapped potential here but I'm not optimistic about him replicating Sunday's fantasy output on a Sabres team that's full of offensively capable defensemen.

With an assist on Sunday, Cole Perfetti is up to seven points in his last eight games. He's a key piece of Winnipeg's second line with Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikolaj Ehlers. Namestnikov is also in good form lately with five points in his last six outings. Against the Sabres, Ehlers showed off the impressive speed and offensive ability that has him scoring at a 79-point pace this year.

Pittsburgh's top line of Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Sidney Crosby stayed hot against the Panthers.

Rust led the way with two goals and an assist, giving him seven points in his last five outings. He's just about mirroring last year's 74-point pace so far this season.

Rakell's assist gives him 13 points through 11 games in March. He's on track to post a 70-point pace for the second time in his career, and for the first time in seven years.

Crosby extended his point streak to seven games with a pair of assists Sunday. He has 12 points during this stretch.

Evgeni Malkin's goal against Florida was just his fifth point in his last 11 games. Only two of those points have come at even-strength as the team's top line has been stacked with Crosby, Rakell and Rust for most of this stretch, leaving Malkin with various even-strength linemates, who have mostly lacked offensive ability.

Kris Letang didn't register a point on Sunday but he was a godsend for multicategory leagues, racking up five shots, three hits, and two blocks.

With two goals in this one, Sam Reinhart is up to 11 points in his last nine outings, heating up at the perfect time for fantasy managers. Remarkably, seven of his 11 points during this stretch have come with the man advantage as Florida continues to click despite missing Matthew Tkachuk and Aaron Ekblad.

Anton Lundell's goal was just his second point in his last 11 games. His fantasy value usually skyrockets when one of Florida's top centers gets injured, but his regular role doesn't give him enough opportunity to rack up points.

10th overall pick Dalibor Dvorsky made his NHL debut on a line with Mathieu Joseph and Alexandre Texier on Sunday. The 19-year-old forward had a quiet night, posting two faceoff wins through 10 minutes and 40 seconds of action.

With a goal and assist on Sunday, Justin Faulk now has nine points in his last seven games. The 33-year-old blueliner is still available in 56% of Yahoo Leagues and 34% of Fantrax formats as I write this.

With Pavel Buchnevich sidelined because of an illness for the past couple games, Zack Bolduc has been skating on the top line with Robert Thomas and Jake Neighbours. Bolduc extended his point streak to three games with an assist on Sunday. The 22-year-old forward has points in nine of his last 12 appearances.

Bolduc's linemates also stayed hot as Robert Thomas put up three assists, giving him nine points in his last seven. Meanwhile, with two apples, Jake Neighbours is up to 15 points in his last 14.

St. Louis' second line is also in excellent form as Dylan Holloway extended his point streak to seven games, Jordan Kyrou extended his to six, and Brayden Schenn upped his to three. In scoring, Kyrou reached the 30-goal mark for a third-straight season. He's a very underappreciated goal scorer.

With the top six in such great shape, it's no wonder that St. Louis is the best team in the league since February 1st, boasting an impressive 14-3-3 record. The Blues' power play is clicking at nearly 30% during this stretch – a big jump from the 18.5% rate they held prior.

Jordan Binnington played a big role in Sunday's victory as he made 31 saves in a game where his team was outshot 32-18.

Nick Blankenburg – who's rostered in just 1% of Yahoo Leagues and 8% of Fantrax Leagues – has been seeing time on Nashville's top power-play with Roman Josi sidelined. Blankenburg managed an assist with the man advantage on Sunday evening. He's seen a majority share of Nashville's power-play time in five of his last eight games, and has registered a power-play point in three of those five games.

Filip Forsberg has been one of the few rays of sunshine in Nashville this season. He was especially valuable this weekend in leagues that track shots, racking up 15 between Saturday and Sunday. Sunday's goal puts him on a four-game point streak.

~

He's had an up and down debut campaign with Vegas, but Ilya Samsonov came to play Sunday, stopping 35 of the 37 shots Tampa threw his way en route to his 15th win of the year.

With two assists on Sunday, Alex Pietrangelo quietly has six points in his last six outings. This level of offense isn't sustainable from the secondary power-play role that Pietrangelo is stuck in, but it's a nice streak to ride until the wheels fall off.

Victor Hedman was seconds away from a four-game point drought before a Nikita Kucherov power-play goal gave him his first point of the week. Kucherov missed a game on March 13 due to illness but has points in all five games he's played since then.

Brandon Hagel also got an apple on Kucherov's buzzer beater. He and Kucherov led the game with six shots apiece. More ice time has helped Hagel put more pucks on net this season. He's averaging 21 minutes and 2.9 shots per game this year after posting 19 minutes and 2.2 shots per game last year.

Fresh off a hat trick on Saturday, Tomas Hertl added another goal and five shots Sunday. Unfortunately, he was the victim of a late boarding penalty which caused him to leave the game with a potential shoulder/arm injury. Coach Bruce Cassidy said that Hertl was being evaluated after the game and will be evaluated again Monday morning.

~

Frederik Andersen was excellent against the Ducks on Sunday, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced. He's limited opponents to two goals or fewer in each of his last six starts, rediscovering that elite form he flashed before missing three months with a knee injury.

Mark Jankowski opened the scoring against Anaheim and now has six goals in seven games since getting traded to Carolina. I've said before that his fourth-line deployment with lacklustre linemates makes this kind of offense unsustainable, but sustainability be damned, just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Hat trick. Hot streak. Hall. It took some time for Taylor Hall to adjust to new surroundings in Carolina as he posted just two points in his first 12 appearances with the team. However, after Sunday's three-goal outing, he's up to nine points in his last eight games with the Hurricanes. He has solid potential for power-play points as he's been skating on Carolina's top unit for the past six games, posting two PPPs during this stretch. Hall is also valuable in leagues that track shots, averaging 2.5 per game over his last 10 appearances. Keep him on your watch list if you need some offense late in the week as the Canes play on Friday and Sunday. Keep in mind, Andrei Svechnikov has missed Carolina's last six games due to injury, which has resulted in extra PP opportunity for Hall. Monitor Svechnikov's status if you're thinking about adding Hall to your fantasy roster.

Jackson Blake has also been skating on Carolina's top PP lately. With a power-play helper on Sunday, the 21-year-old forward has three points in his last four games.

Logan Stankoven also has three points in his last four games after posting an assist on Sunday. Unfortunately, with third line/second-unit PP deployment, I'm not overly optimistic about Stankoven's rest-of-season fantasy outlook. I think he's going to develop into a really good player, but I wouldn't expect too much down the stretch this year unless he's given a better role.

After leaving Saturday's game with an injury, Seth Jarvis got right back in the lineup Sunday and tallied an assist. He's found the scoresheet in seven of his last eight outings.

Alex Killorn has been an underrated source for goals lately. After lighting the lamp on Sunday, Killorn is up to six goals in his last 11 games.

Trevor Zegras is no stranger to a late season hot streak, and it seems he's quietly putting another one together. Sunday's goal gives him seven points in his last eight appearances.

After registering a touchdown against Carolina on Saturday, LA repeated the feat with a 7-2 win over Boston on Sunday. The Bruins managed a measly 13 shots on net as they suffered their sixth loss in a row.

In the rout, Alex Turcotte and Vladislav Gavrikov were the only Kings' skaters that didn't register a point.

Adrian Kempe posted two helpers and has eight points in his last nine games.

Drew Doughty's goal gives him six points in his last seven.

Kevin Fiala's assist has him at a point-per-game over his last eight contests.

With a goal and assist each, Quinton Byfield and Tanner Jeannot both mirrored their production from Saturday night against Carolina. In Jeannot's case, four points in two games seems to be an outlier given his fourth-line deployment. However, the same output has a much more optimistic interpretation for Byfield, who is heating up with goals in eight of his last 10 appearances.

It's been a quiet second half for Anze Kopitar, but he's been showing signs of life this month. After scoring on Sunday, he's up to five goals in his last 11 outings.

Morgan Geekie is one of the few Bruins that's been able to score this season. He's tickled the twine in three of his last four outings and boasts an impressive 23 goals in his last 45 games.
