DFS Monday: Cup-Contending Colorado; Oilers’ Top Line; Value on the Blueline

Good morning to all my DFS peps out there, and happy playoffs! I really enjoy playing DFS during the playoffs as the slates are all reasonably sized and there's usually a stack that may go overlooked in each game. There are a couple spots tonight that could make for a nice build, and there's ways to get cheaper on defense to make it all come together.

Slate Preview

Colorado Avalanche

Spoiler, I have the Avalanche winning the Cup and this matchup they're in against Dallas is nightmare fuel for the Stars. I watched a lot of this Dallas team down the stretch, and I can say confidently that I have no issues at all going up against Jake Oettinger. I'm all over the Avalanche until they see a team like Vegas in the West, to where things may slow up a bit, but I am on them here tonight. Like during the regular season, there's two ways to go about stacking the Avs, both of course include Nathan MacKinnon ($9,500). You can build expensive and add in say Martin Necas ($6,400) and Cale Makar ($8K) and tonight that might work with ways to get cheaper on defense. For me, I'm leaning double-center with MacKinnon and Brock Nelson ($5K) and looking to get an expensive one-off elsewhere on tonight's four gamer. If you like Colorado again on the road as much as I do, it's either getting over the field which is fine in single-entry, or if your 3-max and above, build as though you're anchoring your stack with Colorado and mix-and-match different cheap lines with them.

Edmonton Oilers

We only know what we know when it comes to this series between the Oilers and the Kings. Los Angeles had the best home record in the NHL during the regular season and even though this series in the past has gone to Edmonton, I'm looking at this in a vacuum of just tonight's matchup. I think when the dust settles, Colorado is going to be rostered at high numbers, same with Dallas, and there may even be a Washington stack that gets in there towards the top. I don't know how many people are going to look at Edmonton as a stack and that's where there could be money to be made. I may roll the dice on Edmonton tonight but if I do, I'm building around the top line and keeping eyes on my iPhone close to warmups. Yes, shocker, Connor McDavid will be in the stack at $9K, along with Zach Hyman at $6,600 but a way to set your build apart might be to play the third man on that line in Connor Brown at $3,400. If that's the line at warmups, Brown might be able to get the residual benefits of whatever this top line can do at even strength which can put you on a decent path towards the cash. My worry as always with Edmonton, is if they get down in this game then are the lines as they're currently constructed going to stick. It's risky leaving someone like Leon Draisaitl ($,800) off if that's the case, so if you want to add him as a four-forward build I'm fine with it. In my single-entry lineup, I'm leaning Colorado over Edmonton but if I were putting together multiple lineups, I would want to get to at least some of this Edmonton group tonight.

Defensemen

Talked about Cale Makar a little bit earlier, I'm fine with adding him on a stack if that's the build you're going for and I'll even say that as a one off, he's in play for me. Darnell Nurse at $5,600 is interesting to me, I don't mind rostering him on this slate tonight, he's another player that may go overlooked. Lane Hutson at $5,100 I have circled in the $5K's as a standout player, I could see rostering him as a one-off but even pairing him with a Habs forward like Patrik Laine is something I may try and do. Colton Parayko always projects well for me, I don't mind him at $4,700, and just below him on DK we get to Esa Lindell and Justin Faulk who are both good plays for tonight. For my punt defensemen tonight, I'm looking at Matt Roy at $3,900 and Kaiden Guhle at $3,700. I may lock and load both of them into my build to get up some salary for an expensive one-off on this slate as I think tonight might be higher scoring across the board.

Goalies

Connor Hellebuyck at $8,200 really interests me in net tonight, he'll see alright volume, and this could be a situation where I add him in just so I don't have to worry about my goaltender tonight. With all that said, if you're not on Edmonton tonight, then there's a good chance that Darcy Kuemper at $7,800 is the play here for this Tuesday. Volume, check. Price, check. Momentum going in, check. I like the idea of throwing him into the mix in single-entry or MME, either are fine. My last option would be Sam Montembeault at $7K, but do keep in mind that he may be a popular option tonight, so you'll need a unique build in front of him.

Good luck tonight everybody!
