The Wild West – Players on Team-Friendly Contracts

Grant Campbell

2025-06-02

We will examine every team in the Western Conference and highlight players who are on favourable contracts to the team. We won't include players on entry-level deals or those that have just expired.

Some of these contracts are for the next five or six years, so there are no guarantees, but at the moment, they are good value. My valuations don't take into account the playoffs, which can add a lot of value for players who win the Stanley Cup or go far in the postseason.

Goalies aren't included as I don't have a valuation system for them in place.

Anaheim Ducks

Frank Vatrano – F – (81-21-24-45) – $4.57 million AAV – 3 years

Radko Gudas – D – (81-1-15-16) – $4.0 million AAV – 1 year

I had Vatrano at a level of $7.24 million in 2024-25 and $7.59 million in 2023-24, so three years at $4.57 million should be a pretty good deal for the team.

Gudas came in with a value of $5.13 million in 2024-25 and $4.76 million in 2023-24. He has just one year remaining at $4 million.

Calgary Flames

Nazem Kadri – F – (82-35-32-67) – $7.0 million AAV – 4 years

Blake Coleman – F – (82-15-24-39) – $4.9 million AAV – 2 year

Mackenzie Weegar – D – (81-8-39-47) – $6.25 million AAV – 4 years

Rasmus Andersson – D – (81-11-20-31) – $4.55 million AAV – 1 year

Kadri has surprised me with his play over the past few seasons. In 2024-25, his value was high at $9.62 million after being around $9.35 million in 2023-24. He might struggle to maintain $7 million in years three and four, but I think he'll be fine over the next two years at least.

Coleman had a value of $6.49 million in 2023-24 and was slightly lower in 2024-25 at $5.88 million, but he's still well above his $4.9 million AAV, which has two years remaining.

I had Weegar's value in 2024-25 fairly high at $10.2 million as there aren't many defenders who provide production, throw hits and block shots. It's comforting to see that his value was right around $10.0 million in 2023-24. He has four more years at $6.25 million AAV.

Andersson had a value of $6.45 million in 2023-24, which came down slightly to $6.18 million after 2024-25. He has two years left at $4.55 million AAV, which was one of the better contracts out there for a team. It's trending down towards even-value by the end of it.

Chicago Blackhawks

None at the moment. Alex Vlasic could get there with his $4.6 million AAV for the next five years, but he's not there yet.

Colorado Avalanche

Nathan MacKinnon – F – (79-32-84-116) – $12.6 million AAV – six years

Martin Necas – F – (79-27-57-84) – $6.5 million AAV – 1 year

Artturi Lehkonen – F – (69-27-18-45) – $4.5 million AAV – 2 years

Cale Makar – D – (80-30-62-92) – $10.6 million AAV – 2 years

MacKinnon had the best contract in the NHL before his current deal. It's hard to imagine that he is still a bargain at $12.6 million AAV for Colorado. I have his value in 2024-25 at $16.28 million after being $17.84 million in 2023-24. He's still a bargain if the cap wasn't an issue. Teams can only pay so much as a percentage of the cap to individual players.

Necas has just one year at $6.5 million remaining and has had values of $8.76 million in 2024-25 and $5.93 million in 2023-24. He'll be a good deal for 2025-26, but his contract will be pretty expensive moving forward.

Lehkonen played 69 games but still had a value of $5.28 million in 2024-25 after playing just 45 games in 2023-24 and being at $3.38 million. He needs to play at least 65 games to earn his salary in each of the next two seasons.

Makar is a similar story to MacKinnon in that the team couldn't possibly pay him what he is worth and stay under the cap. Makar played at a $13.54 million level in 2024-25 after being at $12.36 million in 2023-24.

Dallas Stars

Jason Robertson – F – (82-35-45-80) – $7.75 million AAV – 1 year

Mason Marchment – F – (62-22-25-47) – $4.5 million AAV – 1 year

Thomas Harley – D – (76-10-34-44) – $4.0 million AAV – 1 year

Robertson played at a $9.05 million level in 2024-25 after being at about $8.43 million in 2023-24. He'll be looking at over $10 million AAV in his next contract, but that might be an overpayment for the Stars or any other team, for that matter.

Marchment was just above his contract in 2023-24 with a $4.63 million value, but had a slightly better 2024-25 at $5.14 million. With just one year remaining at $4.5 million, he should be good for it.

Edmonton Oilers

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – F – (78-20-29-49) – $5.125 million AAV – 4 years

Zach Hyman – F – (73-27-17-44) – $5.5 million AAV – 3 years

Jake Walman – D – (65-7-33-40) – $3.4 million AAV – 1 year

Brett Kulak – D – (82-7-18-25) – $2.75 million AAV – 1 year

Nugent-Hopkins has had his production slow down in recent years, but his value is still above his current contract. In 2023-24, he was at $6.49 million and in 2024-25, it was at $5.51 million.

Most people thought that the contract that Hyman signed with Edmonton was too expensive for him. In 2023-24, his value was $10.32 million, which dipped significantly in 2024-25 to $5.64 million. He proved how much he can elevate his game in the playoffs before he was injured.

Walman went from a value of $3.99 million in 2023-24 to $7.56 million in 2024-25. He will be looking for the higher end of that for his next contract.

Kulak struggled in 2023-24 and had a value of $1.3 million, but bounced back in 2024-25 with an excellent campaign and a value of $3.97 million. The two years combined get him to the value of his contract with one year remaining at $2.75 million.

Los Angeles Kings

Adrian Kempe – F – (81-35-38-73) – $5.5 million AAV – 1 year

Warren Foegele – F – (82-24-22-46) – $3.5 million AAV – 2 years

Jordan Spence – D – (79-4-24-28) – $1.3 million AAV – 1 year

Kempe is going to get paid on his next contract. His value in 2023-24 was $8.79 million and $9.29 million in 2024-25. Depending on how 2025-26 goes, he could be north of $9.5 to $10 million AAV.

Foegele has done well in Los Angeles and had a value of $6.1 million in 2024-25 after being at $4.09 in 2023-24.

Spence was a regular in 2023-24 with a value of $1.67 million, but he improved in 2024-25 to $3.38 million. He has provided excellent value to the Kings and should do so again in 2025-26.

Minnesota Wild

Matt Boldy – F – (82-27-46-73) – $7.0 million AAV – 5 years

Mats Zuccarello – F – (69-19-35-54) – $4.125 million AAV – 1 year

Boldy at $7 million AAV is a great deal for the Wild. His value in 2023-24 was $7.43 million, which he improved to $9.95 million in 2024-25.

📢 advertisement:

Zuccarello has been an important offensive piece to the Wild and had a value of $6.07 million in 2023-24 and $5.71 million in 2024-25. He has one more year under contract at $4.125 million.

Nashville Predators

Filip Forsberg – F – (82-31-45-76) – $8.5 million AAV – 5 years

Ryan O'Reilly – F – (79-21-32-53) – $4.5 million AAV – 2 years

Forsberg had a career year in 2023-24 and played to a value of $12.93 million. The whole team struggled in 2024-25, and his value was still at $10.31 million.

O'Reilly was excellent in 2023-24 with a value of $7.69 million, and he followed that up in 2024-25 with a value of $6.29 million. He has been an excellent signing for the Predators.

San Jose Sharks

Tyler Toffoli – F – (78-30-24-54) – $6.0 million AAV – 3 years

This might be a stretch to include Toffoli here as he did play to a value of $6.51 million in 2024-25, but he might not be able to duplicate that for three more years.

Seattle Kraken

Jared McCann – F – (82-22-39-61) – $5.0 million AAV – 2 years

Eeli Tolvanen – F – (81-23-12-35) – $3.475 million AAV – 1 year

Adam Larsson – D – (82-7-21-28) – $4.5 million AAV – 4 years

McCann has been one of the better Kraken since their inauguration. His value in 2023-24 was $6.05 million, followed by $7.17 million in 2024-25.

Tolvanen has been a great waiver pickup for the Kraken. His value in 2023-24 was around $4.1 million, and he signed a two-year deal at $3.475 million AAV. He rewarded the Kraken with a better 2024-25 where his value was $4.85 million.

Larsson was at a $5.28 million level in 2024-25 after being at $4.11 million in 2023-24.

St. Louis Blues

Dylan Holloway – F – (77-26-37-63) – $2.29 million AAV – 1 year

Robert Thomas – F – (70-21-60-81) – $8.125 million AAV – 6 years

Jordan Kyrou – F – (82-36-34-70) – $8.125 million AAV – 6 years

Give the Blues all sorts of credit for offer-sheeting Holloway after his 38 games in 2023-24. I don't think even they knew what type of season Holloway was going to have in 2024-25. He ended up with a value of $8.12 million and has made his next contract very interesting.

Thomas and Kyrou signed identical contracts, and both are bargains at this point, with Thomas slightly outvaluing Kyrou with six years left in their deals. I have Thomas at $8.81 million and Kyrou at $6.81 million in 2023-24, while 2024-25 had Thomas at $9.35 million and Kyrou at $8.7 million.

Utah Mammoth

Clayton Keller – F – (81-30-60-90) – $7.15 million AAV – 3 years

Michael Kesselring – D – (82-7-22-29) – $1.4 million AAV – 1 year

Keller was almost spot on with his contract in 2023-24 as his value was at $7.25 million, but his 2024-25 was even better at $9.1 million. I think he's found his level with three years remaining at $7.15 million AAV.

Kesselring had a bit of a breakout in 2024-25, but there were rumblings in 2023-24. His value in 2023-24 was $2.11 million, but doubled in 2024-25 to $4.26 million. His next contract will be at the high end of this range at the very least.

Vancouver Canucks

Kiefer Sherwood – F – (78-19-21-40) – $1.5 million AAV – 1 year

Quinn Hughes – D – (68-16-60-76) – $9.5 million AAV – 2 years

I had Sherwood with a value of $2.75 million after his 2023-24 season, where he signed for two years with Vancouver at $1.5 million AAV. His value in 2024-25 was $6.43 million, which is inflated by his crazy number of hits. I do think he signs for $3.5 to $4.0 million if he can come even close to duplicating 2024-25.

Hughes is one of the few players who breaks my valuation system a little. His value in 2023-24 was $10.11 million, and in 2024-25 it was $9.53 million. His value can't be measured as I truly believe the Canucks would throw $12-13 million a year to keep him in Vancouver after his current contract expires.

Vegas Golden Knights

Pavel Dorofeyev – F – (82-35-17-52) – $1.835 million AAV – 1 year

Brayden McNabb – D – (82-5-15-20) – $3.65 million AAV – 3 years

I'm not sure how Vegas will afford to keep Dorofeyev after his contract expires. His value at the end of 2024-25 was $6.85 million. He will have to prove that 35 goals were not a fluke, but he will likely be above $4.5 million AAV.

McNabb had a value of $5.10 million at the end of 2023-24 and $5.15 million in 2024-25. He's consistent, to say the least.

Winnipeg Jets

Kyle Connor – F – (82-41-56-97) – $7.14 million AAV – 1 year

Vladislav Namestnikov – F – (78-11-27-38) – $2.0 million AAV – 2 years

Cole Perfetti – F – (82-18-32-50) – $3.25 million AAV – 1 year

Adam Lowry – F – (73-16-18-34) – $3.25 million AAV – 1 year

Josh Morrissey – D – (80-14-48-62) – $6.25 million AAV – 3 years

Connor had a value of $6.5 million in 2023-24 and a value of $11.6 million in 2024-25. I would think his next contract will be somewhere comfortably in between those two numbers.

Namestnikov is sneaky good value. In 2023-24, his value was $2.42 million, while in 2024-25 it was $3.81 million. The Jets have two good years remaining.

Perfetti had a strong 2024-25 season, which tells the Jets how much his next contract might be. I had him valued at $4.86 million, which is likely the low end of a new contract.

Lowry was valued at $4.39 million in 2023-24 and $4.84 million in 2024-25. His next contract will be around those numbers if not more.

Morrissey was a great signing on his current contract. His value was $9.3 million in 2023-24 and $8.7 million in 2024-25.
