Ramblings: McMann Shines in Kraken Debut, Kopitar Sets Kings Record, Shesterkin Strong (Mar 15)

In the first game of the day, Linus Ullmark earned a 23-save shutout of the Ducks. Since his return from a personal leave, Ullmark has posted a 5-1-2 record with a 2.31 GAA and .900 SV%. Prior to that, Ullmark had been struggling with a 2.95 GAA and .880 SV%. With the Senators battling for a playoff spot, Ullmark should be safe to start.

Also for the Sens, Shane Pinto assisted on both goals in the 2-0 win. Pinto has been on a roll recently with seven points over his last five games. He is currently on pace for his first 40-point season.

Charlie McAvoy scored both Bruins' goals on Saturday while logging 27:44. McAvoy has been one of the league's hottest defensemen recently, piling up 18 points over his last 15 games. Spoiler alert: McAvoy will make his return to the upcoming Top 100 Roto Rankings based on his strong bounce-back campaign (49 PTS in 54 GP).

The Bruins eventually won this game in a shootout that took nine rounds to resolve. Fraser Minten was the first of 18 shooters in this game to put one past one of the goalies.

Rasmus Sandin scored a goal and added an assist with four shots for the Capitals. Sandin snapped a four-game point drought with the two points.

–

Kyle Connor scored a goal and added an assist to put the Jets past the Avalanche by a score of 3-1. One of the league's most underrated players, Connor is currently above the point-per-game mark (1.14 PTS/GP) for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in his career. Connor has also reached 30 goals for the eighth time in his career. He is also on pace for his second consecutive 90-point season.

Connor's linemate Mark Scheifele registered two assists in this game. Scheifele has accrued 11 points over his last six games, including four multipoint games. At age 32, Scheifele is on pace for his first-ever 100-point season.

Brent Burns has now played in 990 consecutive games, which moves him ahead of Keith Yandle for consecutive games. Burns now only trails Phil Kessel (1064 consecutive games).

–

Sam Reinhart is not on the Panthers' four-game road trip to Seattle and western Canada. At this point, the Panthers are simply embracing improving their draft odds.

Also on the subject of Panthers load management, Sam Bennett isn't expected to play in Sunday's (today's) game. He is considered day-to-day, though.

–

Igor Shesterkin stopped 46 of 48 shots he faced in the Rangers' 4-2 win over Minnesota. Clearly a difference maker in this one, Shesterkin has reeled off four consecutive wins with three quality starts for a Rangers team that looked like it had thrown in the towel on the season. Despite the lack of positive results from his team, Shesterkin is holding his own with two-thirds of his games resulting in quality starts.

J.T. Miller returned to the Rangers' lineup on Saturday from an upper-body injury. Miller was held without a point while recording one shot on goal, two hits, and three blocked shots.

Vladislav Gavrikov scored a goal while adding two assists with a plus-3 and six penalty minutes. In his first season on Broadway, Gavrikov has reached a career-high 13 goals while already reaching 30 points for the third time in his career. He is not known as a scorer, but add in the fact that he averages over a blocked shot per game and he is showing some fantasy value in deeper leagues.

–

The good vibes continue in Buffalo. Owen Power and Jack Quinn each scored a goal, while Alex Lyon backstopped a 3-2 shootout win for the Sabres over Toronto. Lyon has a 15-2-0 record with 14 quality starts over his last 17 games. Even though he is splitting starts with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Lyon should be starting in all leagues right now. The fact that the Sabres have won eight of their last nine games and are at the top of the Atlantic Division means that Luukkonen should be too.

Joseph Woll had a strong game for the Leafs, stopping 31 of 33 shots he faced. Woll now has three consecutive quality starts while facing a minimum of 30 shots in each game. Anthony Stolarz hasn't been as effective as hoped this season, which means that Woll could receive the majority of the starts for the Leafs the rest of the way.

Macklin Celebrini scored two goals with an assist in the Sharks' 4-2 win in Montreal. Celebrini is working on a point streak that is now up to eight games, where he has picked up another 12 points. In his second NHL season and not yet 20 years of age, Celebrini is six points shy of reaching 100 points for the season. Needless to say, the future looks very bright for him.

Collin Graf scored a goal while adding two assists, giving him goals in back-to-back games. Graf's value is highest when he is on Celebrini's line, which he was in this game. In his first full NHL season, Graf is only one point shy of reaching 40. Not bad for an undrafted NCAA free agent signing. Graf and the Sharks play again today (Sunday) in Ottawa, and he's only 4% rostered in Yahoo leagues. Click the Add button for Graf if you need scoring help to finish the week.

Recalled from the AHL for this game, Igor Chernyshov left this game early in the first period after being checked by Mike Matheson and suffering a scary-looking fall. The good news is that Chernyshov is travelling with the Sharks for their game in Ottawa after being evaluated at a Montreal hospital.

For the first time in his career, Brendan Gallagher was made a healthy scratch. Gallagher has been a reliable player for the Canadiens through the years, but his scoring has dropped off in recent seasons. Since the Habs have advanced through their rebuild, Gallagher may find himself in the press box again from time to time. He is expected to return to the lineup for today's (Sunday's) game.

In the Devils' 6-4 win over Los Angeles, Nico Hischier scored two goals while adding two assists. Hischier was also dominant in the faceoff circle, winning 16 of 24 draws he took. In fact, Hischier leads the league in both faceoffs won (797) and faceoff attempts (1437). Hischier also leads the Devils with 23 goals.

Artemi Panarin scored a goal while adding two assists for the Kings. Checking in on him since he was acquired by the Kings, Panarin has 12 points in 10 games with his new team. More recently, he has nine points over his last six games. He is also averaging over 20 minutes per game with Los Angeles. No issues with the trade.

Anze Kopitar scored two goals, giving him seven points over his last seven games. With the two goals, Kopitar has just passed Marcel Dionne for first place in Kings' all-time scoring (1308 points). Kopitar's value also seems to have been boosted by the addition of Panarin to his line once Panarin was acquired. Would Kopitar change his mind on retirement and stick around for one more season? Probably not, but he may not just fade off into the sunset like many who are about to retire.

Brandt Clarke assisted on three goals, breaking a three-game stretch without a point. Clarke has replaced the aging Drew Doughty on the Kings' top power play, which in his second full season is making Clarke rosterable in just about every standard fantasy league. Clarke also has 134 blocked shots, which places him just outside of the top 10 in that category. He is also just three points shy of reaching 40 points for the first time in his career.

–

Simon Holmstrom scored twice in the Islanders' 3-2 win over Calgary. Holmstrom broke a five-game stretch without a point with the two goals. For the third consecutive season, Holmstrom is shooting just over 20%. That has allowed him to reach at least 15 goals in each of those three seasons, but he has never reached 100 shots taken in a season. With 79 shots in 65 games, I'm not sure if he'll reach that mark this season either.

–

Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov each scored a goal while adding an assist in the Hurricanes' 4-2 win over Tampa Bay. Both have been hot recently: Aho with nine points over his last six games, and Svechnikov with five points over his last four games.

–

Kirill Marchenko scored the Blue Jackets' only goal in their shootout win over the Flyers. Marchenko now has 10 points in his last eight games. He is also close to the point-per-game mark for the second consecutive season (57 PTS in 60 GP).

–

Wyatt Johnston scored a goal and added an assist in the Stars' 3-2 overtime win over Detroit. Johnston has six points in his last three games. At only 22 years of age, Johnston has scored 30 goals for three consecutive seasons. He is also over the point-per-game mark for the first time in his career (73 PTS in 66 GP).

–

Dylan Guenther scored two goals for the Mammoth in their 4-3 loss to Pittsburgh. That gives him five goals in his last five games and nine points in his last seven games.

In the Penguins' win, Anthony Mantha scored a goal and added an assist. The 31-year-old Mantha has reached a career-best 51 points this season, while his 25 goals has tied his career best. Both Mantha and the Penguins have surpassed expectations this season. In Mantha's case, a lot of that has to do with remaining injury-free.

–

Bobby McMann made a splash in his Seattle debut, scoring two goals and adding an assist with four shots in the Kraken's 5-2 win over Vancouver. McMann was placed on a line with Jordan Eberle and Matty Beniers, who also both had three points. It seems like this line could stick. McMann is still a UFA at the end of the season, but he looks like he could be a strong fit in Seattle with his goal scoring (back-to-back 20-goal seasons). McMann was traded a week ago on trade deadline day, but he did not appear for the Kraken until Saturday due to visa issues, which have since been resolved state-side as well.

With a goal on Saturday, Jared McCann broke a 10-game goal drought. Despite the recent lack of goals, McCann still has 17 goals in just 41 games.

Marco Rossi seems to finally be finding his way in Vancouver. With a goal on Saturday, Rossi has seven points over his last six games. He had missed nearly two months (Olympic break included) with a lower-body injury. Rossi has been centering a line with former Wild teammate Liam Ohgren and Minnesota native Brock Boeser.

–

Adin Hill stopped all 21 shots he faced in the Golden Knights' 4-0 win over Chicago. Hill now has wins and quality starts in back-to-back games. Despite the recent success, Hill has only eight wins this season. His season stats (8-6-3, 3.06 GAA, .870 SV%) could also be better playing for a team like the Golden Knights. Akira Schmid should probably receive more starts than he has recently, as Hill has started each of the last four games. I'm not sure what happens here once Carter Hart is ready to return either.

Pavel Dorofeyev led Vegas with two power-play goals and an assist. Dorofeyev is a mainstay on the VGK power play, as 18 of his 34 goals have been on the power play. Only Wyatt Johnston has more power-play goals among all players. Like McAvoy mentioned earlier, Dorofeyev will be added to the Top 100 Roto Rankings this month.
