DFS Thursday: Edmonton’s New Top Line; Los Angeles’ Great Position; Swayman in Goal, and More

Morning, all! I didn't catch much puck last night, but I woke up to a nice little cash this morning. I rolled with a line we'll get to in a moment, along with my 2026 DFS darlings: the Carolina Hurricanes' second line. At this point, that 'Canes trio might be my most-played second line ever, overtaking a Devils unit from a few seasons back — the Andreas Johnsson–Dawson Mercer–Jesper Bratt combo.

Slate Preview

Ottawa Senators

I played Ottawa last night, and I can see myself going right back to them tonight. I've been patiently waiting (not the 50 Cent song) to get the Sens into my builds for a bit now, but the slate sizes just haven't cooperated until last night. What really drew me in was Tim Stützle's 14‑game point streak that wrapped up last week —it felt like it went completely under the radar. He scored again last night, and at $7,400 I'm very interested in running him back. I'd pair him with Drake Batherson at $6,800, and if I'm adding a third Senator, Brady Tkachuk at $8,800 is always the first place I look. I'm aware they're on a road back‑to‑back and watching Ottawa often feels like "crash the net and hope something good happens," but I still like the spot against the New York Islanders. With Jake Sanderson out, you can look to the blue line as well —Thomas Chabot has been playing well in his absence, at least according to Jason York on Real Kyper and Bourne yesterday. For my single‑entry tonight, though, I'll probably stick to the forwards.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers host a Florida Panthers team that, for whatever reason, I think will bring plenty of juice into this matchup. It feels like we've seen meaningful hockey between these two not too long ago. That aside, I've gone against Florida in their last two games and done well — and yes, one of those was against the Vancouver Canucks. For me, this spot is all about rostering a fully correlated Edmonton top line, and it also happens to be a version of the Oilers' top line that gives you some salary relief. Connor McDavid sits at his usual $10K, Zach Hyman is right in line at $7,100, and adding Matt Savoie at $4,400 gives you the flexibility to fit in another mid‑range forward or defenseman. I'd full‑stack it, too —Savoie has played well over his last three games with three points and eight shots on goal. At the end of the day, it's a fully correlated Connor McDavid line at home in what could be a very favorable matchup. No matter your entry size, they should be firmly in your player pool.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings host a Philadelphia Flyers team tonight that has really struggled on the penalty kill over their last 10 games, which immediately puts L.A. on my radar. The big variable is Adrian Kempe — he's currently day-to-day, and with this being the final game on the slate, late news could leave us with very few pivot options. Ideally, I'd love to get to an Artemi Panarin ($7,600) – Kempe ($7,400) – Anze Kopitar ($4,400) combo, but if Kempe sits, shifting to the second line as a complementary stack makes plenty of sense. Both wingers on that Kings second line, Trevor Moore ($3,900) and Alex Laferriere ($4,600), have been generating strong volume lately, each with 30‑plus shots on goal over their last 10 games. As the day goes on, I'll want more clarity on L.A.'s health before locking anything in, but the power‑play matchup is simply too good to ignore.

Defense

At the top of my board tonight is Evan Bouchard, who's jumped to $7,500 after sitting at $6,500 just last week in Dallas. If you want to stay under $7K on defense, Moritz Seider at $6,200 is a strong option. I also still like Lane Hutson in the mid‑$5K range —he's $5,700 tonight for the Montreal Canadiens. In the $4K tier, I'm going right back to Filip Hronek because he's skated over 23 minutes in every game this month, which is exactly what I want at that price. In the $3K range, Mattias Ekholm remains a solid play with points in back‑to‑back games, and he fits naturally with any Edmonton stack. If you're spending up elsewhere and need true value, Nikita Zadorov and Jeremy Lauzon both come in at the minimum $2,500. Zadorov has piled up 20 shots on goal over the last two weeks, and Lauzon brings steady peripherals as well.

Goalies

My highest‑rated netminder tonight is Jeremy Swayman at $8,000, though I'm not sure I'll have the salary to get up to him. If you can, he's a strong home play against the Winnipeg Jets. Right below him, John Gibson should see solid volume at home against the Habs, and continuing down the board, Ukko‑Pekka Luukkonen projects for plenty of work on the road against the San Jose Sharks. If you're not on the Kings, Sam Ersson is likely to start for the Flyers on a back‑to‑back. He was solid in his last outing against the Washington Capitals a week ago and makes sense as a cheaper option.

That's it for now, best of luck tonight!
