Ramblings: Potential Late Season Weekend Adds – C. Hutson, Chinakhov, J. Fowler, and more

First off, there were no NHL games to report on Friday. That means we'll dive right into the weekend.
This weekend represents the final weekend of the regular season. Maybe it's not relevant if your fantasy league has called it a season and declared a winner, but we still serve those out there who are still playing. Hopefully I've been able to help you during the season with Saturday waiver-wire adds.
The following is for leagues that finish on Sunday, but all of these players could also be considered in leagues that go the distance (until Thursday).
Teams with games both Saturday and Sunday: Boston, Columbus, Calgary, Montreal, New Jersey, NY Islanders, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, Utah, Vancouver, Washington
By the way, have you noticed anything in the way of load management so far? All it seems to have been is the Panthers and all their injuries, which may or may not improve their draft lottery odds. Maybe we'll hear about teams resting star players for the playoffs a game or two before they start, but so far it has been a big nothingburger.
Here are some players that you can target that play games on both Saturday and Sunday:
Cole Hutson – I featured Hutson last week, but I'll take the opportunity to reaffirm his status here. Hutson is rostered in only 20 percent of Yahoo leagues, which seems rather low given his contributions so far (8 PTS and 5 PPP in 11 GP). Hutson has received sub-50% of his team's power-play minutes over the last four games, but that is something that you should hardly fret over unless you specifically need power-play points. At age 19, he already seems well on his way to an impactful career. Could the Hutson brothers be discussed in the same realm as the Tkachuks and Hugheses soon?
Ryan Leonard – A top-5 rookie scorer, Leonard has been heating up with six points over his last six games. He has also been shooting the puck with regularity during that time, averaging three shots per game over those six games. Leonard's icetime could be higher, as he has still been averaging under 14 minutes over the final quarter and is not always on the top power play. He is averaging over a hit per game this season and is averaging over two hits per game in his recent hot run. Another 14: Leonard was rostered in just 14 percent of Yahoo leagues as of mid-week.
Mason Marchment – Even though the Blue Jackets were shut out on Thursday against Buffalo, Marchment still has six points over his last five games. In addition, he continues to be used on the Jackets' top power play. Columbus is fading after a very high new coach bump from Rick Bowness, and their remaining schedule (Montreal, Boston, Washington) won't do them any favors. Still, Marchment is worth considering.
Jacob Fowler – In the hopes of flipping my goaltending categories last Sunday, I added Fowler hoping for a nice matchup against New Jersey. Although he posted his third consecutive quality start, Fowler was unable to secure a win in a 3-0 loss to the Devils, and adding him didn't provide the desired result. The Habs have weekend back-to-backs against two struggling and desperate teams in the Blue Jackets and Islanders, so Fowler should start one of those games. Check GoaliePost for the latest updates.
Jonas Siegenthaler – A player that seems unlikely to be here, Siegenthaler deserves mention because he has eight points over his last 10 games. If you only need scoring, then the recommendation is only about playing the hot hand, as Siegenthaler has no goals this season and is not on the power play at all. However, he leads the Devils with 130 blocked shots, so he can help in that category and perhaps provide a bit of scoring as well. Make the selection depending on what you need.
Calum Ritchie – Somehow, a player that has scored at nearly a point per game over the final quarter is rostered in only 1 percent of Yahoo leagues. Over his past 16 games, Ritchie has 14 points, including six goals and six power-play points. He has also been on the Isles' top power play during this time, unaffected by the recent coaching change. Acquired in the Brock Nelson trade, Ritchie is a 2023 first-round pick who will should be given every opportunity to succeed. Keep him in mind as a potential sleeper next season.
Jordan Spence – The offensive-minded Spence has finally found his groove in Ottawa with 10 points over his last 12 games. This one comes with a caveat, as Spence has benefitted from both Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson out of the lineup. Now that both are back, Spence could be back to below 20 minutes per game with limited power-play time. However, it is worth mentioning that Spence has just reached 30 points for the first time in his career.
Egor Chinakhov – I mentioned Chinakhov last week, so I won't go into much more detail here. To update, Chinakhov has been on first with a five-game point streak where he has racked up 10 points. Most recently, he scored a goal and added two assists against New Jersey on Thursday. Pittsburgh continues to be white hot in the scoring department with 36 goals over their last seven games. Consider Chinakhov a priority add, even if he doesn't play on the Pens' top power play.
Lawson Crouse – A banger by trade who can offer a bit of scoring, Crouse has picked up four points in three games on a strong Utah scoring line with Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz. In addition to the recent scoring, Crouse has reached 200 hits for the first time since 2019-20. Don't underestimate Crouse's scoring either, as he has reached 20 goals in four of the last five seasons. Rostered in just 18 percent of Yahoo leagues and 30 percent of Fantrax leagues, Crouse may be available on your waiver wire.
Jake DeBrusk – If you use the very singular power-play goal category, DeBrusk might be of some help. A total of 16 of 19 of DeBrusk's goals have been with the man advantage, a number that is exceeded by only three players. Among the Canucks (which isn't saying much), DeBrusk is also tied for the team power-play point lead with 21 PPP. Just beware if your league counts plus/minus (no judgment if it does): DeBrusk is competing for the green jacket with a minus-34, which is the third-lowest number in the league.
Teams with games neither Saturday nor Sunday: Buffalo
If you're in a single-season league that ends on Sunday, you could theoretically drop any Sabres player from your roster. But if the league plays until the bitter end of the season, Buffalo has two more games next week before its long-awaited return to the playoffs. It makes sense to drop either Owen Power (0 PTS in last 9 GP) or Mattias Samuelsson (0 PTS in last 4 GP). Otherwise, just use your best judgment. Alex Lyon is an obvious drop, since he's expected to be out for about a week with a lower-body injury, which is how much regular season is left.
