DFS Thursday: St. Louis’ Hot Streak; Seattle’s Road Matchup; Sergachev’s Production, and More

Morning, all! We've finally reached the end of the road — the last day of the NHL regular season, which means our final DFS slate before the playoffs. First, thank you for following along all season. I hope these breakdowns helped you along the way! Second, I do hope you stick around for playoff slates as long as the slate sizes make sense.

Tonight's slate is a bit of a mixed bag — as it usually is on the final day — but there are still a few spots worth targeting if we want to cash one more time

Slate Preview

St. Louis Blues

The Blues goal totals in the last three games have gone – five goals, six goals, seven goals. Can I get eight goals tonight? Somewhere in my brain my junior high math teacher is explaining the law of large numbers. Or something like that.

Look, the Blues offense has been excellent lately (getting hot at the right time), so I'm fine with a fully correlated top line stack going up against the Utah Mammoth, who are up there in minors taken this season. If you need salary relief, the second line is viable too — though I'd lean toward leaving Pius Suter off that stack. St. Louis has a real chance to make my lineup.

San Jose Sharks

Normally I'd avoid going into Winnipeg on the road against Connor Hellebuyck, but tonight I think there's merit to playing some Sharks. The Winnipeg Jets have done a good job of staying out of the penalty box all season, but in the last couple weeks, they've been shown the door more than we're used to seeing from them. This is also a Jets club that has allowed close to six goals against in their last three games. Not that the Sharks offense has been anything to write home about, but I'll take stab here against a struggling defense and one that's been taking some calls against them.

For me, if I decide to roster the Sharks, it's likely a full second line stack plus Macklin Celebrini at $9,500. In my single-entry if I get to them, I'll be happy with it, and same goes for all those out there in multi-entry.

Seattle Kraken

It's the last day of the regular season and options are thin, so of course we end up talking about a team I've maybe played once all year. Seattle draws Colorado on the road, and I'd expect the Avalanche to either sit players or at least reduce minutes — think Nathan MacKinnon at 21 minutes instead of 23.

Why Seattle? If Colorado rests key pieces, this becomes a sneaky-good matchup for a Kraken top line that will skate together at all strengths. Their March meeting gives me a little pause, but in multi-entry, this is a stack that could get you different. They're my third choice of the teams listed, but if that top line hits, you'll pass a big chunk of the field.

Defense

Top of the board for me is Cale Makar at $7,500 if he suits up for the Avalanche here tonight. I think this could be a slate to where you can spend up to one defenseman, and over $7K, he would be my pick. Mikhail Sergachev at $5,900 is a strong option with 13 assists in his last nine games played. I'm fine with Jackson LaCombe at $4,800 coming into tonight with points in his last two games, and below him, Filip Hronek is a solid play at $4,700. Brent Burns is good with me at $3,500 if he'll see expanded ice time. Chicago Blackhawks legend Olli Maatta has played well recently for the Flames, so I don't mind rostering him at $3,100, and if you need a $3K d-man for your stack, I'd look to Adam Larsson.

Goalies

For our netminders tonight, I'm good with whoever gets the start for Colorado if you're deciding to spend all the way up to $8,400. Alex Nedeljkovic should be the starter for the Sharks tonight; I like him a fair bit at $7,400. I think Joel Hofer at $7,200 is in a good spot and priced at a point to where I can build something fun around him, but my interest in a Blues goaltender diminishes if we get Jordan Binnington as the confirmed starter. For a cheap option I suppose Kevin Lankinen is fine as he has won his last three starts in net for Vancouver priced down at $6,900.

That's it for now — best of luck tonight! Let's finish the regular season strong.
